ACORN unmasked

acorn.gifFor sheer entertainment value, the idea of a couple of young people posing as a hooker and her pimp in order to run a sting on a major community organizing operation can't be beat.

The U.S. House of Representatives, in distancing itself from this little bit of theater, immediately voted to yank ACORN's federal support dollars. One has to ask why our tax money was being spent on this kind of thing in the first place. Rather, it sounds like the perfect opportunity for corporations to polish their public images by contributing to something civic-minded that would help turn out the vote. Oops...they'd be Democratic votes. Never mind.

Anyway, we all know that there's a secondary reason the Right is foaming at the mouth over ACORN. The tax issue is one thing, although I never hear them grousing about U.S. companies that headquarter themselves abroad in order to avoid paying federal taxes.

No, it's really because in the woolly public mind, ACORN is associated with Barack Obama, as if it were some wholly-owned subsidiary of the Obama campaign.

Well, that's how politics is played, although rarely in such a coherent, focused way.

It's a slippery slope, and the Progressives aren't exactly fools. I'm looking forward to some counterscams. It's all mother's milk to a cartoonist.

o-b-a-m-a? I thought it should be r-i-c-o

This is what I would expect from Lowe. Somehow, the fact the Obama campaign donated $800,000 to ACORN must be some kind of an "arm's length" thing.

Rick

Acorn has been corrupt for many years and it is time to stop wasting our tax dollars on these crooks. Only someone as out of touch as Wexler would believe that the tax payers should continue to fund these illegal actions.Next we need to get after the people like Rangel etc , who don't pay their taxes.

I worked at the Miami Acorn office..Because I was "colorblind" and had a Florida Mortgage Brokers License I did not last very long...They were knowingly corrupting the system...

So the right hates ACORN because they are most principally, and directly responsible for Obama making it into office. Why? Because they rallied voters who normally wouldn't have given a hoot, to get out there and vote.

The problem with the right is this: when their PACs swiff boat a candidate based on completely false information (proven, no less by DoD records), its OK. When the left uses the same kind of tactic to motivate its base, they're the bad guys. IN the end, we end up with an illusion of choice. And while we're down here bickering among ourselves, ALL politicians, left AND right are setting themselves up for life.

You see, even if they don't make connections and get into some cuchy lobbying job after their public service, they still get kick-ass benefits (health and pension) for life.

So let's keep bickering amongst ourselves folks, because there's always going to be some crooked person in some organization, presenting half the facts to make it look a certain way, but at the end of the day, while we've been misdirected with the illusion of choice by entertainers such as Bill Maher, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and alllll the others-- we will still have nothing because people are more concerned about their next iPod than what could potentially bankrupt our country.

This is the endgame: entertain us 'til we drop.

Change:
Ultra-Right to Tax-Payers
and
O-B-A-M-A to G-R-A-F-T

and you'll find a slippery slope we should grease from the right, the left and the middle.

(That's the best common ground I can find with the convoluted logic of your comments. Unless you disagree that there's a difference between paying taxes and spending taxes)

I guess Chan didn't hear Obama talking about how ACORN was going to help him shape the "change". Try listening to the other side sometime to get a real perspective.

What it is really bad is to see the main stream media not doing any effort to unmask these mafia run organizations. It took a student and good script to get them. Why the main stream media did nothing? Sad day for America and congratulations to the student. There is still hope!!!

When Lowe incorrectly says that the Right is foaming at the mouth over ACORN because of the Tax Issue...he has it completely backwards...as he normally does. Conservatives don't like tax money GOING TO ACORN to support them. Why should taxpayers foot the bill for a political action organization?

Also, the cartoon makes me laugh because Lowe thinks that only the "ultra right" see a link between ACORN and Obama. I guess only the "ultra right" remember this in Obama's speech:

When Obama met with ACORN leaders in November, he reminded them of his history with ACORN and his beginnings in Illinois as a Project Vote organizer, a nonprofit focused on voter rights and education. Senator Obama said, "I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That's what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That's the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So this is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.”

Wow...amazing how we "ultra right" would make a bizarre connection between ACORN and Obama. Whatta bunch of nuts we are!

Sebastian the Ibis,

Wow. Boy did you miss Lowe's
point. Maybe you should read
his entry again
