The health care long knives are out

forged.gif
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for meaningful health care reform to pass through this congress.

There are so many moving parts in this game of three-dimensional chess, so many special interests, so much money to be made and lost, that only someone with the legislative skills of a Ted Kennedy--or maybe a Tom Daschle--could have played it pitch-perfect.

Sadly, the American people seem to be forgotten in all the jockeying.

We have only our own ignorance to blame. If the majority of this country had any idea what the average citizen takes for granted in Europe, and for what cost, our members of congress would pass universal health care in a heartbeat, to the light of torches waving outside the U.S. Capitol windows.

But those of us who have some semblance of health care coverage desperately hang onto our miserable scraps, because it's all we know. Those who have nothing...hell, nobody listens to them, anyway.

The problem is with those who have something: they don't want to give it up. And really the question should be, if someone doesn't even earn their way, should they be treated as a first class citizen of society?

I mean, on one hand I see the hard working illegal mexicans, working 12 hour days and sending every dime back to their wives and families, being productive members of society forgoing care and hurting for it. Then, I drive through Opa Locka and see the, ummmm, darker folk driving Escalades, not working and getting free healthcare when they need it...

...where is the justice in that? Sadly, the health care debate has valid concerns on both sides of the aisle, and sadly, neither side will stop their yelling and rhetoric long enough to drill down into the facts and make things happen.

Why? Because those who work towards passage of anything that takes money away from any particular healthcare special interest will have a new enemy when re-election is right around the corner.

That is why our peculiar flavor of democratic socialism benefits the politically connected and harms the rest of us.

Government schools leave people defenseless against propaganda spewed out by the media.

People grow up believing the government is supposed to give them things. They vote for the politician who promises to give them the most. There is no understanding of even basic economics.

And really the question should be, if someone doesn't even earn their way, should they be treated as a first class citizen of society?

Of course everyone should be treated like a first class citizen. If we can control the government so it stops stealing money from some groups to give to others we wouldn't have to ask silly questions like this.

The system is broken. The idea of democratic government equaling good government is false. See Hans Hoppe's Democracy the God that Failed. Unfortunately, not available for free download and too politically incorrect for the Broward County Library.

Finally, there are great people and awful people of all creeds and races. Making general racial statements regarding work ethic makes you look foolish and weakens your arguments.

The health care industry is like a deadly virus that will eventually kill its host, even thought that means the death of the virus itself.

I embraced this article with fervent understanding. My spouse & I have no health care insurance, eat healthy, work to stay healthy & pay out of pocket when needed. I would LOVE to see healthcare reform to ressemble that of the UK-it promotes preventative methods, does not eliminate the elderly & seriously ill. The very basis of the blockcadding naysayers IT's socialism does not hold water anymore. Rather a plan that might ressemble socialism than a communist police state that demands you buy into a government run policed agency. Dag nab it this requires our politicians reeducate themselves what a concept.

Blue Dog Democrats suck ASS.

Is it just me or do most conservative bloggers appear racist, short sighted, greedy, and extremist? I guess the level headed conservatives don't blog. I guess these thoughts make me a socialist communist lazy tree hugging hippy democrat liberal, or whatever fox news is calling those they don't agree with this week.

The Sun Sentinel must think we are stupid. They post a link to read what Chan thinks about Obama's speech on 09-09 to this cartoon posted on 03-09. I guess we can add fortune teller to your list of talents Chan.

That makes two of us, Lois

This is disgusting that people who refuse to get a real job & all the undocumented will get low cost/free government healthcare paid by you & me!!! I know these people go to emergency rooms now but if this passes, they will be in front of you & me in line for tests & treatments laughing all the way!!!! Already many of these people say Obama will pay their mortgage & get them free gas!! What a joke. Instead, we should try to fix the private insurance & destroy these high paid Lobbyists who fight for insurance & drug companies....DOWN WITH LOBBYISTS!!!
