Tea Party malcontents

amok.gifOne can easily understand why Washington gridlock has spawned a grassroots movement of angry citizens.

When neither party appears to be acting in the best interests of the country it represents, and resolutely refuses to work with the other for the betterment of the nation, our first reflex is to throw the whole mess out--baby, bathwater and all.

It might behoove some of us to remember that there are a few things big government provides that we probably wouldn't want to do without: Social Security, Medicare and child welfare are just a few examples.

Somebody does have to pay for these programs. Since we can't depend on each other to voluntarily pay our fair share of what we owe to keep the social fabric together, we empower government to tax us, the people, on our own behalf.

When that power is misused, we lose confidence in the whole system. Let's just remember that it isn't so much the structure or the size of government that enrages us, it's the way that structure is twisted and warped to serve the interests of a powerful few that leaves us feeling helpless.

Do you see that paragraph, 2nd from the bottom that starts with: "Somebody does have to pay for these programs". What nonsense. I'm sure our Founders would be face-palming if they read that. Fair share? Empower government to tax us? Someone needs to do a little research on how the federal income tax evolved. We don't empower government to tax us. There is a lot discontent right now because the programs you mentioned are becoming so large we will not be able to fund them. That is why you are seeing real anger. At some point people want to enjoy the fruit of their labor without a thief taking their "fair share" right out of our employers reward for our labor.

Social Security? Pretty much bankrupt. Medicare? Same thing. And, throwing out the baby with the bath water is taking the best medical care the world has ever seen and nationalizing it. Come on....

And, throwing out the baby with the bath water is taking the best medical care the world has ever seen and nationalizing it.

Are you stupid enough to believe the US has the best healthcare in the world? You need to quantify that claim because on many of the highest priority measures: access of care, error count, mortality, and so on, the US is dreadfully low on the list.

So knuckle up stupid, ours is far from the best. Give it to the Swedes or the Fins-- they got that much right, especially seeing as how they are consistently ranked at the top.

Oh, and ummm, they have single payer systems.

Chan Lowe is a commie. Why doesn't he just go move to Cuba? We don't want him and his commie prop. in our country. Go away.

Taxes without representation, Tea Taxes (similiar to any tax, particularly on goods) The extreme rich and extreme poor. Caveat Emptor. Americans were known as CAPTITALISTS, Rugged Individuals and Entreprenuers. Americans were promised that if they funded programs, those programs would be available to them. But, they are not available due to depeleted funds and mismanagement. The system is broken, the streets of gold have turned to brass and everyone is waiting for their Uncle Sam to save them. There is not enough money to save the American Lifestyle as we know it for all people in our society. Big Government and the loss of local level government has eroded the foundations upon which our country is built. Americans used to work hard for fiscal reward, now they whine for a paternalistic government to care for them. Nothing is free. Corruption is spreading. Americans on both sides of the argument are going to be dissatisfied. AND that is going to create NEW PROBLEMS.

Interesting, where is the Democrat label on the right-hand panel??

Chan is SOOOO far off...no tea partier or any conservative would ever ask "where are the jobs programs"...that is a liberal mantra. Conservatives do not want the govt to "create" jobs programs. Conservatives want govt to cut taxes & get out the economy manipulation business. The Laffer curve works (go google it liberals) but when the free market is stymied...everything bogs down.

To FL Zapped:

OMG. You didn't even get the cartoon to begin with!

The only job program tea baggers want is the one you get from and expanding economy, not stupid temporary government handouts. The only way to expand the economy is that same way it worked for under Kennedy, Clinton, Reagan and GW after 911. The only sure way is less regulation and a lot of tax cuts, of which Obama wont do. Tax to GDP rate must be kept under 18% for strong growth to occur. Need I say we are not there , nor it appears we will ever get there with Obama's crew of tax and spend democrats.

Dave,

LESS regulation????
You've got to be kidding.

john gt. I appreciate your response, however I am dead serious. Because of over regulation by GW we got The Sarbanes–Oxley Act of 2002 which was a political over reaction to Enron. Quoting the wall street journal "The new laws and regulations have neither prevented frauds nor instituted fairness. But they have managed to kill the creation of new public companies in the U.S., cripple the venture capital business, and damage entrepreneurship" Now Obama is over regulating banks, in a transparent effort to use them as a scape goat for his anti business policy's. That is perhaps the largest reason banks are not making loans to any small businesses, and why so many store fronts are closed , and people unemployed. One large reason we have a banking and mortgage mess in the first place, is due largely to the community reinvestment act started in 1977 under Carter, and made stronger by Clinton, which forced banks to make loans to unqualified people or be fined. They did this to purchase the poor vote; perhaps its time our government is regulated, I am all for that since they work for us.

Dave,
You DO know that Reagan raised taxes. Don't you?

It's about getting government out. of. our. way. Incentivise small businesses with tax cuts. And, the more people keep in their pockets (i.e. tax cuts), the more they spend. It's not that hard, people. Couple that with less spending and wow....you have economic growth.

Chan Lowe, you just don't get it. Those of the TEA party want jobs created by free enterprise not a government Jobs program. It's enough for the government to get out of the way as in allowing offshore drilling. This would create real jobs. Got it?

Reagan also had a very healthy economy, and it continued to grow. Unlike what the Bozo in Chief is doing now.

Either the cartoonist, Mr. Lowe, is purposefully ignorant or he is just another MSM propagandist. My bet is on the latter. You have NEVER heard a Tea Party paticipant ask for a jobs program, layoff or not. We can find or create jobs on our own without 'gubmint' help. Reduced or little government and less gov't spending is our goal. A very demeaning, hate-mongering cartoon and typical of Trib company's staff attitude.

Keep on with your perverse propaganda Mr. Lowe. The majority in this country can and did get duped, but have learned that a left wing looney is not the answer. Only you hardliners are brainwashed to the point of no return.

Would you mind viewing the following videos about the laffer curve? Care to comment for all to see on your blog? your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Like most hard working, tax paying citizens, I have always trusted that Federal reserve was the"watchdog" of the monetary and banking system. But, unfortunately, recent events have brought to light how much the fed is responsible for the financial crisis including the fact they have been deceptive about the actual reasons and true severity. Most Americans don't know (I didn't) that the Federal Reserve bank operates as a private institution and is owned by international bankers NOT the taxpayers! Since its inception in 1913, the Federal Reserve has helped to devalue our dollar by 95% largely by the over minting, circulation, and interest charges on the dollar paid by the taxpayers. During the recent economic crisis, it has poured trillions of dollars into the economy with no oversight, made secret agreements with foreign banks and governments, and has REFUSED to tell Congress who is getting the money or to give details of what deals are being made. HR 1207, Rep. Ron Paul's "Audit the Fed bill," and S 604, its Senate companion, will demand full transparency from the Federal Reserve for the first time in history by removing all restrictions from Government Accountability Office (GAO) audits of the Fed. They will be mandating an audit of the Fed by the end of 2010. We MUST support these bills through our representatives in congress and the senate. Now is the time to speak up and make government accountable as an American taxpayer and voter. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is the MOST IMPORTANT legislation to be presented this year and possibly within our lifetimes. These bills absolutely must be passed to stop the bleeding, restore stability, and balance to the economy. Luckily, these bills have already gained much support in the house and the senate but the battle is just beginning. If you are unfamiliar with audit the fed legislation, please take the time, and read up on it.

If you truely believe the statement you made Chad then why do you slam and make fun of the Tea Party folks who are exercising their rights of free speech? They to want these social programs such as social security but they do not want big government to piss away all their hard earned tax money on BS. Tell me Chad, how many jobs has the Stimulis Bill created? Washington DC can't even answer that because most of the money went to PORK projects.

Hey AntiDope, are you advocating 71% income tax to get free healthcare for all? I mean, that's how they do it in Finland...

Dave,
You DO know that Reagan raised taxes. Don't you?

Yes, he raised social security taxes 6 years after getting into office or it would have gone bankrupt 2 decades ago. When he got into office, he lowered taxes dramatically... Still, even after the increase in Social Security, cuts in taxes were still more than raises, to the tune of 165 BILLION in cuts.

The more you know.
