Chan Lowe: Rosie O'Donnell and the shark

This was a local story, so it was hard to resist. You don’t have to be a tree-hugging environmentalist to be repulsed by the photo of Rosie O’Donnell and her smiling children standing proudly beside the bloody carcass of a magnificent specimen of an endangered species. Killing a shark for sport isn’t the best example to be setting for the kids.
Couldn’t she just have taken them to the FPL power plant outlet pool to see the manatees?

CHAN LOWE has been the Sun Sentinel’s first and only editorial cartoonist for the past twenty-six years. Before that, he worked as cartoonist and writer for the Oklahoma City Times and the Shawnee (OK) News-Star.

Her comments in defense were so coy and flippant. But maybe Rosie feels badly about this whole incident. Give her the benefit of the doubt?
Maybe she would like to understand more about biomass and apex predators and all the issues of the seas. She could become one of the oceans' greatest allies; she says she loves it after all. Everyone wins in that story, even the sharks who could really use some good news.
