Presidential candidate Barack Obama is taking a page from social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

In a web video e-mailed to supporters a few minutes ago, Obama not only urges them to watch his Springfield, Ill., announcement speech live via streaming video on the campaign web site.

He encourages them to set up a profile on the Obama web site. His description of the tools sounds a lot like some of the popular features on social networking sites. He suggests that supporters use the site to form their own virtual groups. And he notes that supporters can use the web site to create personal blogs to "chronicle your campaign experience."

Come on guys its going to be all day Obama Sat. give us a day or two of rest for these treads. Post about Bush's Budget, the war in Iraq,Libby any thing please not Obama

While Obama can probably never live up to the hype
,he makes a good start. His web site clearly spells out his positions and programs on the major issues. While most of it is right out of the standard Democratic playbook, some of it is refreshingly original. He wants to help Detroit with some of their retirees health care costs,if they will build more hybrid cars.He has ideas on dealing with Liberia and the Congo, which I must confess I never think about.Even if another candidate eventually wins the nomination, maybe they could use the best of his ideas.

Remember how Obama unveiled his "plan" for dealing with terrorisms and the Middle East a couple days ago, to great Swamp fanfare?

Anybody heard of it since?

Neither the media outside the Tribune Tower, nor his senate colleagues, took the "plan" seriously.

Nor should it have been taken seriously, since the keystone of the "plan" was to (trumpet fanfare, please) order President Bush to come up with a plan.

Stay away from the issues, Barack. They're not your strong point.

Obama's brilliant, or his people are, as it relates to campaigning. I'm curious if it'll work, but it makes sense from a marketing point of view.
