The Swamp

by Josh Drobnyk

can take some solace out of Hillary Clinton's new television ad in Pennsylvania. At least one of her supporters featured in the spot hammering Obama for his small town comments isn't registered to vote in Pennsylvania.

Clyde Thomas, who sports a goatee in the ad and says, "the good people of Pennsylvania deserve a lot better than what Barack Obama said," is actually registered in New Jersey. He voted there for Clinton Feb. 5. He only recently moved to Bethlehem, Pa.

"It shouldn't be a big deal. I explained it to the campaign," Thomas said in an interview. "I see Pennsylvanians for what they are. I grew up with the values of Pennsylvanians."

He added: "I am from a perspective of someone coming into Pennsylvania new like Barack Obama is, and seeing how great they are and how they welcome me."

So that's 'news'--gotta see if there was a script passed out for what clearly was person on the street comments put into an ad?
The guy moved. We ugly, middle class wanna bes have to move around to catch our breaks.
I was surpised to see Obama in the damage control ad talking with a normal looking, non-lypo suctioned person.
His campaign is all about the sizzle, not the scrapple.
Hopefully he'll stop hurting america with this bad campaign and join with hilary in kicking some gop know what. And soon.

“It shouldn’t be a big deal. I explained it to the campaign,” Thomas said in an interview. “I see Pennsylvanians for what they are. I grew up with the values of Pennsylvanians.”

What? Do Pennsylvannian values include opportunism?

question, is it more insulting to a pa. resident to have a nj city slicker come into your state and tell you how you feel or a personal analysis of how you feel the political parties have let the pa. residents down in the past. remember when that hollywood guy said "the clintons lie so easily" - is it true or what

My wife's college roommate is in that commercial. We were a little dumbstruck, to say the least, but I guess it's a teacher's union thing. (However to explain that No Child Left Behind is actually a pretty good idea...)

Anyways, my wife votes Obama. My guy Ron Paul couldn't make it to the general election this year. There's always 2012!

You have got to be kidding me. Hillarys people are so friggin inept, or they could not find the propoer local sentiment, that they had to manufacturer a ringer to make these idiotic comments?

Come on people, she is a freak and needs to GOOOO.

Again -- what is the problem with this campaign?!

After assembling a massive political machine for the last 15 years, why do the Clintons resort to this stuff?

People should recall that the only thing Bill Clinton really delivered was solid effort in Northern Ireland. He was coerced into balancing the budget, he failed to act on global warning early enough to actually help, and he was not an honest broker in the Middle East.

We've now see the win-at-all-costs strategy from Bush-Rove and the Clintons (not really much difference). We've also seen extremes in policy wonkiness.

But Obama represents the only smart and sensible candidate in years. Are we really going to fall for Clinton funny business again?

Dave

Typical Clintonian blunder or deliberate deception? Does it matter? Either disqualifies her as the kind of President we want and are longing for.

And this surprises anyone??? This is what we come to expect from Billary. I am not thrilled with either Dem choice but I am really getting tired of the standard politcal games and cheat/cheap talk. This is the kind of thing that has me leaning toward Obama, only for the reason that he doesn't do as much of this (so far) as the others. I am sure that sometime down the road he will be reformed to the Washington way of life but at least we are not getting a 2-for-1 circus.

Cool!

Another Clinton lie!

I am a PA voter (Green party but on loan to the Democrats until April 23) who is growing weary of the bickering. All 3 candidates are members of the most elite club in the nation and every 4 years we get to watch elitists pretend to be regular people while they run for Panderer in Chief.

So... lemme get this straight: the Clinton people knew that ol' Clyde is in fact from Joisey and not registered to vote in PA. And they must have known the papers would find out. So, does this mean that Clyde was the only guy they could find in the whole state who was willing to stand in front of a camera and endorse Hillary?

What were they thinking? Or, to punctuate correctly: what? Were they thinking?

you go clyde! the good people of pennsylvania do indeed deserve better! they deserve to be coddled by professional panderers like hillary clinton, and reassured that everything is just a-ok!

the good people of pennsylvania do not deserve to have their problems analyzed so that there might be a solution. without problems, who needs professional panderers to reassure us that all is well?

obama is way too honest to be president. he needs to learn the art of SEEMING like you give a crap, not actually giving a crap. after all, faking it is the american way. and hillary has the market cornered on faking it.

hillary 08!

Oh Wow, now what would the good people who really reside in Pennsylvania have to say about an ad that is supposed to be about their pain being spoken by those with a biased opinion. This is yet another desperate grasp by a campaign that has been on the skids from day one. Scary to think of this woman's lack of leadership ability for what we see in her campaign is what we will get if we be stupid enough to put her back in the White House.

I think the Clinton's strategy is "If I always lie, the consistency of lying starts to sound like the truth!"

We've almost completed eight continuous years with a President who will not listen to criticism. If Sen. Obama's supporters have their way, we will get at least four years of a President who cannot be criticized without the critics being accused of being racist or playing the "race card." The simple truth about all the dust ups surrounding Sen. Obama is that he himself positioned himself as a "uniter who is and has been outside the politics as usual." By building himself up this way and calling his campaign a "movement," he himself has opened himself up to what he now calls the "silly season." He continues to spoon feed customized messages to audiences. That is indeed politics as usual. But the message he gave to his San Francisco audience about bitter blue collar workers is not a message he would have said in front of those same workers. And it's not the message of a "uniter." Obama's words, in the context of the setting in which they were uttered, are simply condescending, playing one "class" against another. In addition, to say that people "cling to religion" because they're bitter misses the point about many of "those people." And this is one of the areas in which he is, indeed, out of touch. Fact is, they turn to their religion in good times and bad. Obama should not even discuss religion if he wants to stay out of trouble. It's now very clear he joined his Chicago church for political reasons only and that makes sense when you consider that he never seems to have been in the church when the preacher was preaching "the bad stuff." He's a neighborhood organizer, using a church as a launch pad. He comes from old time Chicago political practice. Have you seen the latest developments in the Rezko trial and the Senator's connections to the "pay to play" crowd? Obama's connection to a friend of Saddam Hussein, the wealthy Nadhmi Auchi, made me not only wonder if he had tried to help the banned billionaire to get a U.S. Visa, but if Obama had also voiced his opposition to the war to get on the right side of this political player's piggy bank. Pay attention because the media, for fear of being called "racist," has been very, very slow to fill in the blanks about the Senator, his political history, and his "friends." This country, like the rest of this world, is longtime in a class war. Obama's Marxist rooted philosophy will not only bankrupt this country, it will not solve our class war one bit. Please study the history of Russia and discover again how good intentions made much of the world even more miserable after WWI and WWII. We need other solutions now. And we do not need a new President who cannot be criticized. That would pretty much leave us where we are now, albeit for different reasons.

WANNA WIN? We've gotta GET HER OUT! NOW! Has ANYONE noticed that she has only gotten votes by LYING, GOING NEGATIVE OR BOTH? She has added NOTHING to the campaign, only TEARING DOWN HER OPPONENT and OFFERING NO ALTERNATIVES. This week's ELECTRONIC LYNCHING of Senator Obama is no different than all the others. She's hurting the party. It's time, people. She's gotta go. Every day she stays in is another hit on this year's campaign.

That's funny in a cynical kind of way. What are "Pennsylvania values"? Sounds like Mr. Thomas is stereotyping Pennsylvanians. The Commonwealth is a very diverse state from intellectual, religious, vocation, and social perspectives.

Okay, the dude isn't even registered to vote in PA, but he's concerned about who they vote for. Pathetic. Please stop running Hillary.

Don in Pennsylvania...

You sound bitter. Do these "Panderer in Chief"s find a better foothold with you as a voter by sticking to the issues of gun control, religion, or immigration?

It is unfortunate that someone that we once perceived as such a smart politician runs such a bad campaign. How can Hillary comvince the people that she can run the country? She listens ill advice from all corners of her campaign. She does not seem to know which direction to go. Can you picture this in the white house? I can.

The fact that he was give NO script is not news. If he would have been given a script or coaching that would have been news. The fact that he just moved to PA is not a big deal either. But don't people find the fact that he is a Clinton volunteer, and was one before this whole thing started, suspicious?

I want to know if they ALL were associated with the campaign? Because that would be misleading.

To be fair, these types, man/woman-on-the-street ads are already misleading in the sense that they edit and choose these people's statements. If some said that Obama was on point they wouldn't have appeared in the ad. OK that's fine, that's the nature of these things, viewers should understand that, no foul. But to take it a level further and ask volunteers, staff and contributors to partake is a bit much. We all know that different people will hear things differently, but certainly strong Clinton supporters will more likely hear it her way. Furthermore, they will more like speak in a tone that helps her campaign (maybe even if they weren't offended). I will admit I gave some money to Obama and I follow what he does and say closely. I have what I feel is a good read on the man and what he's about. I heard his statements as a blast on Washington and not on voters. Were my view shaped by my support for Obama? Maybe or maybe not, but I would never pose as some average Joe reacting cold. Of course most people in PA are already supporting Clinton or Obama or McCain, so your not going to find 100% neutral people. But I think at the very least the people in the Cilnton ad should have been random people on the street (which is what it looks like from the editing and film work). I want to know who the other are.

"His campaign is all about the sizzle, not the scrapple."

The scrapple? What the...?

Scrabble?

Snapple?

Obama reaches those who will allow themselves to be reached.

Whoa. Just look what Mr. Obama has to put up with!

There's a simple solution. He can hold a full-fledged press conference to not only disparage Ms. Clinton's antics, but to prove to us voters that he really is experienced, knowledgeable and can answer questions without speeches and lackeys editing his every word and move.

Geeze, what a concept.

Until he does, his campaign is full of sound-bites and fluff, signifying nothing.

There is not a politician anywhere that does not lie to get elected.....at least in the last 100 years or so. You need to look at who they surround themselves with, how they have voted in the past and remember that just because they make promises on certain issues does not mean that Congress and the Senate will let it pass.

To begin with, the "bitter" comments were probably partly autobiographical relating his understanding of what it is like to go through economic hardships. To say you have clung is easier for people to hear than to say that you understand people "cling" in such circumstances. The "out of touch" backlash is nothing much more than old-fashioned pandering...Would you buy a car from Hillary?

This guy is a loser, just like his candidate.

Yeah, it's no big deal. I'm from Jersey. Kind of like Hillary who is from Chicago, no wait, she's from New York, but wait, she's from Scranton, but also from Arkansas.

I and my fellow Pennsylvanians (I've lived and voted here for 12 years) need to finish this thing right here next week. Hillary's lies and pandering are simply pathetic and I do not want her representing the US under any circumstances.

Go Obama!

couple facts to set straight.
1. obama had referred to workers as bitter "to their faces" on the campaign trail before his san fran comment.
2. the san fran comment was in response to a question from a group going to PA to campaign for him and they asked why he isnt getting more votes from rural voters and what to expect. his answer was long. (and in my opinion very true)

he basically said people have become bitter and no longer believe that government can help their economic plight, tell them my talking points, and recognize that they vote on wedge issues: religion (gay marraige, abortion), guns (2nd ammendment rights), and immigration.

OBAMA: So, it depends on where you are, but I think it's fair to say that the places where we are going to have to do the most work are the places where people feel most cynical about government. The people are mis-appre...I think they're misunderstanding why the demographics in our, in this contest have broken out as they are. Because everybody just ascribes it to 'white working-class don't wanna work -- don't wanna vote for the black guy.' That's...there were intimations of that in an article in the Sunday New York Times today - kind of implies that it's sort of a race thing.

Here's how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn't buy it. And when it's delivered by -- it's true that when it's delivered by a 46-year-old black man named Barack Obama (laugher), then that adds another layer of skepticism (laughter).

But -- so the questions you're most likely to get about me, 'Well, what is this guy going to do for me? What's the concrete thing?' What they wanna hear is -- so, we'll give you talking points about what we're proposing -- close tax loopholes, roll back, you know, the tax cuts for the top 1 percent. Obama's gonna give tax breaks to middle-class folks and we're gonna provide health care for every American. So we'll go down a series of talking points.

But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there's not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Um, now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you'll find is, is that people of every background -- there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you'll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I'd be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you're doing what you're doing.

The guy lives in Pennsylvania. He was stating his opinion. As far as I can tell that is not a lie.

Last week's bitter comment made my mind up for me. Yes, I am bitter. When you get right down to it, I am. I'm frustrated, I'm feeling left out, forgotten about. When I first heard the words I felt put off but then I read the entire text and understood that Obama was not insulting us, but emphathising with us. To cling to religion when you have not much else to hope for is what we do here. And probably other places too where people have lost a lot of jobs and hope. Well said, Sen.Obama - you're getting my vote on Tuesday.

Just one more lie to throw on the scrap heap! She just cant tell the truth!

Come on, the guy was born in Pennsylvania, presently resides in Pennsylvania, and lived his whole life only 25 miles from Pennsylvania. Your "values" don't change because you cross a river.

this isn't all that surprising... is it? this is simply more ridiculousness in a ridiculous campaign that continues to go on way too long.

and for pity's sake can we please stop calling her billary... if she's going to be president her name needs to come first in the name mash-up... she needs to be called "Hillbilly."

Hillary has to pull in NJ people to "act" as if they are PA people. That seems to reflect the lies and attempts to fool people that have been the center of her campaign. She is what we do NOT need in the WH.

So does this guy going to get to vote twice -- once in each primary, NJ and PA?

If God had meant for us to vote, he'd have given us candidates. Obama, Hillary and McCain: two socialists and a Republi-Crat. Sheesh!

Another "honest" ad from Hillery ROVEam Clinton!

More press manipulation by the Billaries. It's amazing to me how she gets so much press support.

The vote will be the answer. Time for the Clintons to become history. Bye bye..

It's pretty sad when a politican that poorly words one simple statement is torn down by people in his own party and that of another. I don't understand what's so hard for people to understand about what Obama was trying to say, which is that, people cling to the ISSUES of guns, religion, immigration..ect...because they feel like the government is not going to help them economically.

Ask yourselves why the past two elections seem to be based more on abortion, religion, and immigration than any other issue.

Because Obama is right. I'll agree he conveyed what he was trying to say very poorly, but he explained what he meant, and he's given me no reason to believe he is a blatant liar.

There's a difference between mispeaking, and flat out lying (Bosnia anyone?). Obama misspoke..Hillary flat out lied, and continues to lie.

Obama may not be our savior, but please don't try to sell me that McCain or Hillary are ANY better than Bush. McCain is a complete sellout on every issue he used to stand firm on, and Hillary is owned by the Lobbyists.

I ABOSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
DEMOCRATS AT EACH OTHER'S THROATS :-)
SUCH NEGATIVITY FROM BOTH SIDES.SCARRY TO IMAGINE EITHER ONE OF THEM IN THE WH FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS.

I don't see what the big deal is, he's going to vote in the general election and he's a current resident of PA. To think that this is a big deal or even news is pretty silly.

Don't get me wrong, HRC lies through her teeth on a regular basis and has run an incredibly "dirty" campaign. But this isn't more evidence of that, it's simply an irrelevant anecdote. If you want to show that she's dishonest there are plenty of other examples to use.

I just had a thought (I'm surprised no one has mentioned this)..."

Asked about the fact that Thomas isn’t registered in Pennsylvania, Clinton campaign spokesman Mark Nevins said: “Clyde has deep roots in Pennsylvania and is moving back to the state after having voted in New Jersey in their primary for Hillary Clinton.”

Thomas said he plans to register to vote in Pennsylvania ahead of the November election."

So let me get this straight...Ole Clyde is going to vote twice for Hillary?? Has this guy been hopping around to key battleground primaries to vote multiple times? How many other people are vote-hopping to add to Hillary's vote total?

So, at least one person was a plant.

Nice....

I take more of an offense that her campaign used at least one of her volunteers. He wasn't going to vote for Barack any way. It starts to make that commercial a little less credible.

It's so absurd

Hillary voted for the war.
Hillary has made 109 million dollars.

......and we're supposed to be caught-up in whether or not Obama is an elitist? ...as if this were even possible, or important.

There are real issues in this election. This is not one of them.

his is the old politics of "where's the beef?" sound bytes that Hillary is playing.

...and guess what? It's not working. Obama's poll numbers keep climbing, and her's keep going down.

One reason is that The American people are not being fooled, nor distracted by these non-issues, these Madison Ave. sound bytes.

The more important reason is that Americans see Barack Obama as an intelligent, decent person , and don't (for good reason) feel that way about the Clintons.

I can honestly say I don't think it was relevant the guy was from PA or NJ. HOWEVER, I do have an issue with the fact he wasn't the "guy off the street". He works for the Clinton campaign. And the fact he mentions he is going to now vote in PA after already doing so in the NJ primary. Seems wrong to me...

It's just hard to believe that working in a huge state like Pennsylvania the Clintons must go nextdoor to New Jersey to find a 'telegenic' supporter. To be fair, Somerville is within 25 miles of Pennsylvania, & it IS a small town that looks more like Carlisle, PA than Newark, NJ. But really. At least this time, the actor in their commercial isn't a huge Obama supporter, like the young woman in her infamous '3 AM' commercial was.

Obama will be dismantled by the republicans long before the genereal election.

Hillary is use to what they got in store and Clintons have a habit of winning.

How badly do the democrats want the Whitehouse? Using history as a gauge for the past 40 years they end up picking some pretty flakey candidates.

OBAMA, OBAMA........QUIT NOW!

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill!!!! The man came from Pennsylvania and is LIVING IN Pennsylvania. So what that he voted in New Jersey???

You media people will write or say anything as long as it's negative about the Clintons!!!

Enough already!!!

So he explained it to them and it didn't matter?!
The Clinton camp is once again desperate and has no regard for the truth!
And they seem to be open to the idea of cheating!

“It shouldn’t be a big deal. I explained it to the campaign,” Thomas said in an interview. “I see Pennsylvanians for what they are. I grew up with the values of Pennsylvanians.”

Values and Democrats in the same sentence is an oxymoron...

Where he's lived doesn't matter to me. I'm voting for the candidate that's the better bowler, because that's what's important.
Obama's already won. Please let this end soon.

"Last week's bitter comment made my mind up for me. Yes, I am bitter. When you get right down to it, I am. I'm frustrated, I'm feeling left out, forgotten about. Anyone that believe this poster deserves to get the afro-centric Marxist O'bama for their President. What a load of....

This campaign is really going to destroy the Democratic candidate for the Fall (Obama will be that candidate, as Hillary should quit now- she has no chance). More muck in the gears.

This reminds me of the Windows commercial that was made a few years ago- on a Mac. Not a big deal, but not exactly the PR you want.

HRC really needs to get out and support Obama before there is no hope.

I can't believe that this is a big deal for some people.

What a shock, out of work, and supporting Clinton. Work harder America, someone on welfare is depending on you!

Out of the millions of voters in PA, Clinton couldn't find ONE native of PA to do this ad? And they couldn't find ONE person that didn't work for Clinton, volunteer or not? Are you kidding me? How long is it going to take for people to see the Clintons for what they are? Liars, cheats, opportunists, adulterers. I have to breakout the dictionary to find enough verbs to describe the shame they have and will continue to put on this country. I say throw them ALL out and start over.

What's another lie when it comes to the Clintons?

True, this is not an issue in and of itself. It is refelctive however, that Clinton continually tries to sandbag the general population with stupid people, stupid issues, and stupid stunts. Is this a little thing? Yes. But taken together with everything else, if Clinton and her husband are elected, this country is going to be past "the point of no return" very quickly. We're done as a people, as a country. We will be, in terms of world influence, irrelevant.

I live near Somerville, NJ, where this fellow lived until a few weeks ago. This is NOT the kind of area that is in question at all. This area of New Jersey has lots of businesses, lots of stores and malls and office buildings and hospitals. I guarantee you that someone moving from Somerville, NJ to Bethlehem, PA to look for work is an odd circumstance. Somerville has good train service into New York City, even. Its 10 minutes from Rutgers University with 20,000 students. There is no gun culture here and elections have nothing to do with religion, nothing at all. The areas Barack Obama are the rural areas and small towns that are losing population and have had businesses disappear.

Obama basically said what Molly Ivins said for years about GOP politics: guns, gays and God. Distract them from real issues that affect their lives with sensational issues that belong on daytime TV, not in politics.

The blue collar voter gets freaked out by gays getting married, and elects someone who sells his job oversees, cuts his healthcare off, and makes it impossible to send his kids to college. At least the gays aren't getting married!

How is Obama is elitist while he just finished paying his tuition and was raised by a single mother? Did Hillary forgot than she has more than 100million??? Do you even knw the meaning of the word?? I think her campaign should have a handy dictionary so atleast they would look like they knw what they'r talking about! Would history repeat itselft with Mrs. Clinton after Bush??? I wonder!

46 and unemployed. Typical democrat voter.

The more Hillary campaigns the worse she looks!

I'm sorry. But there are actually people who believe that moving to another city/state to find work is 'opportunist' or somehow ethically questionable? Wow.

I didn't realize how backwards those big city/dark blue areas where.

I guess its probably a mystery as to why populations in those big blue states keep going down as people flee to the South, Midwest and Mountain states (ie, Red) for lower cost of living, higher quality of life and better employment opportunities.

But I guess in Chicago that is considered some form of treason. Yeah, maybe ya'll better check your voter rolls and make sure you don't have any traitors who've moved to CHI from some other city or country. Don't want those people contaminating your voter fraud.

Hilarious!

With the way these two are going after each other it keeps making McCain look better and better.

Stay in there Hillary/Obama don't give up keep going after Obama/Hillary and make him/her look bad!

Everybody here really loves ya McCain don't give up!

Somerville, NJ is only about an hour from PA - would his values be that different from someone who lived in Scranton all their life ? Probably not.

However, he works for the campaign. How difficult would it have been to toss in a couple of words like "Though I only recently moved to PA..."

It would have saved this embarrassment and not changed the message at all.

Dumb move, HRC.

"He is a 46-year-old unemployed environmental engineer."

haha, the guy is a janitor who can't find work. He has been in PA maybe a month, and working for the Clinton campaign for most of that time. These are the best credentials that the HRC people could find?

People, he's gonna REGISTER to vote in PA ahead of the general election. It doesn't say he's going to vote in the PA primary. I don't know why I'm defending this guy, but read carefully before you comment!

First the little girl in her 3 a.m. campaign turns out be an adult voting for Obama and now this. Whomever is making these ads should be fired (or thanked for making it easier for Obama to win).

Everything Clinton comes up with to promote herself (and attack Obama) is based on a lie. This is only reminiscent of the drama, divisiveness and deceit of the 90's. Do we really want to return to that nonsense?

If the Clinton campaign can plant questions, why can't they transplant voters?

Whatever it takes, right Hill?

Chris,

It's obvious you don't have PA values if you don't know what scrapple is. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapple.

I'm not even sure it would be illegal for the guy to vote in PA if he had registered in time. He was a resident of, and voted in NJ. Now he is a resident of PA. If it's illegal to vote in more than one primary, they should all be held on the same day, like the general election. But that would end the ceaseless drama of the current campaigns.

One of the first things I did when I moved was register to vote. One of the first things I did when I moved was register to vote. If he met the qualifications to vote in PA, he should be allowed to vote. Wouldn't want to disenfranchise him.

Typical liberal voter..."UNEMPLOYED environmental engineer"!!! And he's spending his time "volunteering" for Billary instead of out looking for a job! Meanwhile, the rest of us poor slobs who work are paying for his unemployment money!

typical Clinton Honesty to bring someone in from another state and tell them in PA how they think like Hillary is saying since she is from there she knows how they are goes back to the same old thing anything to win or cheat to win! Right

After reading Mr. Obama's books, it is clear to me that he at least THINKS about the issues facing our nation. Ms. Clinton's only thought seems to be her resuming residence at the White House. Everything else is window dressing. The empress has not new clothes. The American electorate is much too savvy to be fooled any longer by these pretenders to the throne, i.e. the Clintons. Enough. Be gone. Slink with King George into merciful obscurity. Please.

Why does the Clinton campaign consistently choose to be decietful and lie? They have a choice, they can deliver their message with integrity. In this case, their choice also shows stupidity. Unless this 'Clyde Thomas' gives some kind of Oscar-worthy performance, they have just deceived Pennsylvanians and the American people for no reason. This is just plain dumb.

Its also the last straw for this voter. After hanging on as long as I can, today marks the day I switch to Obama.

Sorry you are unemployed guy. If I was unemployed I wouldn't be spending my time helping a politcal campaign. I would be out pounding the pavement to get a job and income for my family. Unemployment is still lower than when Clinton was in office.
People depending on politicians to make their life easier are the problems. Stand up for yourself.

Born there raised where... whatever, bottom line is this man has Never voted and has Never even registered to vote in Pa. in his entire life!

I am a white middle-aged woman from Pittsburgh who is for Obama. The Clintonistas are soooo DISHONEST; they can't even make an honest tv commercial. GO OBAMA!!!

Sorry Pal, nice attempt at a cover for this snake in the grass tactic by the Clinton campaign. She's stooping so low, she could limbo under an earthworm. And for the record, where he came from in NJ is not the same kind of community in terms of income and issues as the area of PA he's pretending to care about!

And the string of deceptions from Hillary continues - and continues - and continues - and continues. Why wouldn't they just find a Pennsylvania voter who's actually a Pennsylvania voter?

I guess for the same reason that Hillary couldn't just tell us what really happened in Bosnia.

Or in Northern Ireland.

Or Kosovo.

Or that her chief strategist was in Columbia helping the Columbian government pass trade deals Hillary says she opposes.

How many lies will it take before Hillary's supporters realize she's a liar?

“It shouldn’t be a big deal. I explained it to the campaign,” Thomas said in an interview. “I see Pennsylvanians for what they are. I grew up with the values of Pennsylvanians. Some of my best friends are Pennsylvanians. Give 'em comfortable shoes and a warm place to go to the bathroom, and they're good.”

This means nothing - the guy is a voter and poor white trash like just me - which is I'm sure what Obama was really thinking - "Those PWT folks cling to guns, etc..."

McCain and Rice in '08!!!

Having a NJ carpetbagger representing PA interests should not come as surprise to anyone (particularly Democrats); after all NY has a carpetbagger for a senator.

so, the billery campaign had to go to the swamps of new jersey to find someone with pennsylvanian beliefs for their ad???

That is tooooooooooooo funny!!!! the key fact in this article is when stated "He is a 46-year-old unemployed environmental engineer" sorry guy but i would be bitter about that!

Come on!
How many times are the American people going to have to see this before they catch on to these slimy Clinton politics?
Even I can follow this recipe to make a “Clinton Election Turd Cake” I've seen it so many times.
1. Three weeks before the election to soften his poll numbers and stop his momentum,
find something your opponent said or did and it and take it completely out of context, then
Spin It Like Hell to the press and public to make your opponent look like the devil himself.

2. Three days before the election, come out with a horrifying story about your opponent that will shock the population of the state you are trying to win. It doesn't matter that the story is a lie because no one will be able to prove it until after the votes are counted. Keep the story going as long as you possibly can.
When the truth finally comes out that it was a complete lie, deny that you knew anything about it even though you planned every facet of it.

3. One day before the election, put yourself in a situation where you can choke up and cry in front of cameras, make sure it hits every TV station in the country

And there you have it, Now Repeat this in 50 States or Until the American people get so sick of it, they finally put a stop to it.

Hopefully Mr. Thomas can parlay this exposure into a job.
Although it would work against both Dems. campaign strategy.

I always thought they were all actors in those speaking parts, truthfully, if they believe what they say and really are sincere, what does it matter where they are from.
The gentleman is a Hillary supporter and voted for her, so what more is there to say.
Did Obama get upset and call her names again. Why people are voting for him I shall never know. The country is being taken over by Pastor Wright lovers who hate America.
What other reason is there to vote for Obama?
I must say if he is nominated it will be a shooin for McCain.

Hopefully Mr. Thomas can parlay this exposure into a job.
Although it would work against both Dems. campaign strategy.

Just payed my taxes. Ouch.
Yes Im bitter. Especially when the government has already spent my money on a war that only gives us more dead soldier. Bitter indeed.

And who is the elitist? All I know is that when Bill and Hillary were in Vegas, they stayed at a 10,000 dollar a night room and had 1500 Dollar lobsters for dinner. Remember that?

Its interesting that Hillary has to purchase footage of children sleeping in beds or has to use campaign staff to get her message of distortion and deception out there.

Clyde is 46 so I guess that helps us understand how old you have to be in order to be smart enough to vote for Hillary.

I wonder if they disclosed that it was a simulation of a real pa voter?

deception how about obama saying he was raised by a single mother? when obama moved out of his step fathers house and then moved into his grand parents high-rise apartment building. at that time she was vice president at hawaiis largest bank how come the media doesnt cover this

I live in Pa, and feel that Obamas statement was dead-on. No need to sugar coat the truth.

We call it Pennsyltuckey for a reason!

Oh for God's sake!
This is news?
I know the Trib tanked for Saint Barack awhile ago, but this is low even by whatever standards exist at the Tower.

She will use him again (without sporting a goatee!) in Indiana where Clyde has "deep roots" than in North Carolina (with a goatee) where again he has "deep roots"... Classical duck hunting in Bosnia...

The moved back to PA and isn't bitter or clinging to relgion, guns, racism, or whatever Obama thinks people do.

Rodham-Clinton is an abomination, the woman is despicable.

She was the worst first-lady in American history and she is a complete liar.

Other than that, I have no complaint with another example of the blatant hypocracy of the Clintonista camp.

It is continues to remain a source of interest. One the news media continues to ignore - Almost anyone Democrat and Presidential candidate Hillary (not Rodham) Clinton puts forth to speak on her behalf in terms of credibility and respectability turns out to be a fraud and a liar. Facts and truths quickly found out and reported on but facts and truths Hillary (not Rodham) Clinton seems oblivious to. How is it she is allowed to do this again and again and the news media continues to allow her a pass? She is a liar. She is a fraud. She is dishonest. She is unfit to hold any office because she is a fraud, a liar, dishonest, and corrupt.

Thank you for your time.

I challenge anyone out ther to a real debate about the 90's under the Clinton lying regime machine, the Clintons only care about themselves as an african american I am not voting for Obama because we have gender and race in common but because I believe that he is the right person for the position at this time and to all of you who happen to be of the fairer sex Hillary should not be the standard bearer for politically ambitious everywhere it is not just amatter of electing a woman but of electing the right woman and Hillary Clinton is not that woman this country has a grat opportunity staring her in the face the question is as a people who is staring back.

What? Hilary Clinton's campaign was dishonest about something? I haven't heard anything this surprising since I was attacked by sniper fire on my way to Bosnia this morning.

New Jersey is half Pennsylvania and half New York. I don't see what the big deal is in crossing the border from New Jersey to Pennsylvania. There is so much bile and viciousness in this campaign that literally anything provides an excuse for slander.

Sooooooooooooo, I'm from IL and I think the people of PA deserve a lot better than what Obama gave them, too. You are really digging to come up with something to criticize her about. Boy your fear is showing "Swamp." Does he literally say that he is a resident of PA. NO then what the H*** are you complaining about. I think most everyone in every state in US feels PA deserves more than what Obama gave them. When you have something worth complaining about, like CLINGING TO THEIR GUNS AND RELIGION, or God Damn America put it in the SWAMP, otherwise keep it to your self. I'll watch to see if this pro Clinton gets posted or dumped like most of my Pro Clinton comments.

Some "random man on the street" - the guy works for the Clinton campaign!

I always thought his line in the ad about "the good people of Pennsylvania" sounded a little too much like something you'd hear in a campaign speech from a speaker at a political rally - I certainly never hear "average Joes" talk like that "on the street".

That commercial already seemed a little weird and forced to me in the first place, and the people being interviewed seem uncomfortable and don't come across as believing what they're saying. But to have the one guy in the commerical that stuck out to me as having the weirdest line turn out to be a Clinton campaign volunteer that they "approached" to do the commercial is just laughable.

I'm not "outraged" - at this point all I can do is laugh.

I can't wait to see what comedy material the Clinton campaign comes up with next.

This just says more about her campaign snafus than anything--details and context and choosing your words correctly really matter at this point (as is evident by the spin of the comments Obama made at the fundraiser). I don't think the recently-moved guy in the spot is to blame at all--I move all the time. But I can imagine Hillary seeing this article and going off on her press people: "Can't we even get THIS right?"

I was more shocked about the Pittsburgh "protests" outside of Obama's campaign headquarters this weekend. There were only about 8 of them, but the teacher's union apparently bussed some people in from NY. That was weird. I mean, can't her campaign just pull from the apparent hordes of "outraged" PA voters?

I can't believe the media is making so much out of such meaningless comments. Hillary's campaign is at the height of desperation. Look at any poll of the American people, and you will see we ARE bitter. Maybe Annie Oakley/Hillary can tell us all to just eat cake. I'm sure people who make $109 MILLION over the past 6 years alone are not bitter about the conditions facing our country, but the rest of us ARE bitter about the way things are going.

What's the big deal? I thought lots of Democrats were registered in other places.

So the "PA" voter is from NJ?

What would you expect from HRC? Afterall she's just a cold, lying, cheating, manipulative carpetbagger senator from NY.

She never lived in NY until she saw the opportunity to take advantage of a senate seat opening up.

So who cares? Both Dem wannabes are as deceiving as they come.

But at least the Dem primaries have provided a little TV comedy after the writers' strike.

Sign me an adult McCain supporter.
