Good morning.

Here are a few Washington items of note for Wednesday, April 16.

President Bush is greeting Pope Benedict XVI on the White House lawn this morning and this evening is hosting a dinner in his honor. It is the pontiff's 81st birthday.

The Supreme Court is hearing arguments on whether a Louisiana man should be executed for raping his step-daughter. If his conviction is upheld, he would be the first felon in America in decades to be put to death without having killed someone.

The Labor Department is releasing the Consumer Price Index for March.

It will be interesting to see if the Pope comments on the American gulag--the prison and death penalty combine.
Earlier this week, people accused 'liberal's of 'coddling' people who attack kids.
It was LIBERALS (women--feminists of the 2nd wave, I might add) who even put this issue on the nation's front-burner. Phil Donahue was also instrumental in discssing 'first shown' issues on television, i.e. spouse abuse, child sexual abuse, incest, etc..).
Despite the pontiff's presence in the capital (hey didn't that last guy say thou shalt not kill just before Bush went into Iraq?) we still are a nation that was formed because we didn't want religion forced upon us.
Years later, we'd decide women and children of ALL hues had rights too.
Gotta go earn my 59 cents now.
