We've got nearly five months to go and despite all the talk of civility and debating the issues, there's been a lot of arguing.
Now the candidates are raising the decibel level about who's being respectful and who's waging a dirty, divisive campaign.
At a Minneapolis fundraiser last night, Sen. John McCain complained about Sen. Barack Obama invoking a movie line to stress his fighting skills.
"Senator Obama said this would be a respectful campaign and change and all that and a couple of days ago he said I am going to bring a gun to a knife fight," McCain said. "Well, that's not exactly the level of campaign that he committed to the American people."
"But, more importantly, there are going to be more stark choices in this campaign than probably the American people have had in a long long time. When you look at the differences in our positions, whether it be he wants to raise taxes and I want to keep taxes low," McCain said. "He wants the government to play a greater and greater role in health care decisions. I want the family to make those decisions. You can go on and on ranging from there to our national security issues and what we need to do in Iraq and to make this world safe."
"The latest is the Supreme Court decision which is a historic departure from anything we have ever done in the past that allows detainees who are not citizens, who are enemy combatants to have the same rights as citizens have," he concluded. "I think that was the wrong decision. He thinks it was a right decision [clapping] so there will be stark differences."

Comments
Following McCain's position on this Supreme Court decision to its logical conclusion, U.S. POWs who were captured by the North Koreans would still be held captive there. After all there was no peace treaty and we are technically still at war.
What are some Republicans so afraid of our Constitution? All habeas corpus does is provide for court review of these prisoners' status.
Let Scalia fear and smear all he wants, the Supreme Court did the right thing.

What a terribly lop-sided post. You mention both campaigns have complaints about each other but then only publicize McCain's complaint about Obama.
Be less partisan, it's unbecoming.

John McCain is right Obama wants to tax Americans the highest it has ever been.
Obama stands for nationalized health care.
Even now in the DNC Congress Rep. Maurice Hinchey D-NY said we the government should own the oil refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the markets.Hinchey is for nationalizing oil corporations.
Is this socialist or Marxist?
Can you imagine the oil corporations run like the Post Office.
Obama will not let us drill for oil he'll just use the Jimma Carter appraoach to enrgy rationing and conservation.
Obama hides his true beliefs they are too liberal to sell to ordianry voters.Liberals won't call themselves liberals instead they say they are progressive. Well that makes Obama the biggest progressive out there.
Jerry White, Springfield, IL P.S. Obama will appoint liberal judges like Anthony Kennedy giving American civil rights to Islamic Jihadists when they are enemy combatants. We need the military not the Supreme Court running our wars.

Everything Obama wants to do as far as economic policy worked in the 90s. Republicans will never be able to get around that basic fact.

Senator " Questionable Conduct " McCain, should stick to the political script, which calls for a debate about issues, not movie lines. His campaign, saddled by a completely incompetent Bush administration and its legacy of infamy, will try any distraction it can scrape up. He has no agenda, other than President Bush's, he has no vision, other than President Bush's and he has no reasonable answers for the slaughter in Iraq, other than President Bush's. Is he, the individual, that you want to lead our great country?? I, sure do not. He is not capable, nor is he qualified to be our President. Senator Obama, at the least, is not shackled to the " military-industrial complex " and its dominance of over our nation !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

If are expecting John McCain to set a positive example, I'm going to need a few more Snickers bars.

Is this McCain's A-game? It sucks, to be truthful.

Do your homework Jerry White. Anthony Kennedy was considered a conservative when appointed by Republicans to the supreme court; he is not a liberal, but apparently the rule of law only matters to you if you agree with it. And Obama's tax plan is not as you suggest; we'll never see tax rates like we had in the Nixon/Carter era; and I'll give Reagan credit for putting a stop to that.
