The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Democrat Barack Obama's apparent advantage over Republican John McCain has held steady in an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released today.

The relatively modest advantage for the junior senator from Illinois - who drew the support of 47 percent of those surveyed in this poll, compared with 41 percent for the senior senator from Arizona - is unchanged from a month ago, NBC News reports.

"We're starting to see a hardening of his support,'' NBC Political Director Chuck Todd said this morning on MSNBC.

The survey, conducted July 18-22, also found some "good news'' for both candidates, as Todd reports. More voters surveyed say McCain represents their values. While more surveyed say that Obama's positions are "in the mainstream.''

The survey largely was conducted before Obama departed for a tour of Afghanistan, Iraq, the Middle East and Europe which has drawn considerable media coverage, which could also have a short-term impact on public opinion.

And in a poll only Bruce reads.......

You know it's coming.

I can't believe a poll that would agree that Obama is in the mainstream.
He is so far from everyday Americans. How about Marxist, socialist, anti-white rascist like Wright and Pfleger, how about pro-terrorist like his friend William Ayers, for partial birth abortion, infancticide, gay marriage, what wacko idea doesn't this elitist espouse. How about saying we are bitter clinging to our guns and our God. Say what Obama! Jerry White, Springfield, ILP.S. On top of this he wants to raise everybodys taxes with 1 trillion in spending he calls investment.

Jerry White,

You forgot the "Hussein" part again.

Get with the program.

I don't know why people say they don't understand McCain's message. It is that Bush, McCain and other Republicans are responsible for everything good that happens, and Obama and other Democrats are to blame for everything bad.

But what "mainstream" is this? When Sean Hannity talks to voters on the street, these folks are C L U E L E S S. They are no different than the democrats in my family - yellow dogs, vote based on who has the best hair, who is the best looking, who probably has some mojo in the back-seat of a car. What kind of brain-less plan is this to select the 44th president of the United States. What is P. Diddy doing. Why is he and Paris not running for something. They are ultra-photogenic.

I would not expect folks to vote Republican because Django does, but do the alleged non-Republican Mainstream really let their minds analyze the outcome of the choices that they have to make, based on somethig other than movee star images and mindless platitudes. This is the game that Republicans generally will never win.

The Obama Circus Tour goes to Germany today. The great Obama will appropriate JFK or Reagan. Both would be better. He will memorize or read something lame to the masses that is quite obvious or too fuzzy for any kind of meaningful analysis or just beyond interpretation. The media dogs will shimer and glow. The dumb voter in the street won't know anything has transpired one way or the other just as they normally don't.

Ahmadinejad and Chavez operate from a different script. The World price of oil is not going to swoon to the Obama patina. The Republic has survived a lot of things. Just hope there is a way to survive this insipid manner of selecting a president at this very critical time. Bill Clinton is starting to look good to me. Damn.

Rasmussen and Gallup are the 2 most reliable polls who do it everyday. Obama has a 3pt lead in both. Somehow the swamp only qoutes these obscure polls that are released once a month. It it isnt Rasmussen or Gallup the poll is not reliable.

Django S.,

You ever post anything of substance?

I support Obama because I think he'll get us out of Iraq sooner rather than later. I don't think the Iraqi Governmet will ever get their act together until they are compelled to do so. My recollection is that this was the whole point of the surge.

On the economy, I like Obama's plane to help American auto makers with their health care costs if they will concentrate on building hybrid/fuel effecient cars. A proposal that will pay for itself if the long run with more auto sales and more Americans working.

You may not agree with any/all of this, but at least a few Obama supporters are interested in policy issues. Try it.

- Substance
No, not possible. Nothing that could ever be more substantive than "hope" and "change", a most stirring message.

- Hybrid Fuel-Efficient Cars
How is it that we could be in agreement on something. I am all for the full development of this newer technology. Off-shore oil takes years, so, no point in pursuing that. Will the fuel cell / solar cell / next generation electric hybrids be fully developed before Labor Day, All Saints Day, maybe. Good to know that the great Obama is going to facilitate this technological progress and not have a reason to oppose it. Mobility for the masses. When did the democrats start to favor that.

- Policy Issues?
Absolutely, by all means. Good for you. Engaging in a policy discussion surely did not seem to work for Hillary though. Hard to not notice that.

Obama and his wife both are racists. Read his books if you want some real insight into his thoughts. This man can't talk. He is tongue tied everytime he is off teleprompter, that's why he isn't giving briefings and why he wouldnt visist the German Army. He can't possibly win this election increasing taxes, no one has ever won who wanted to increase taxes! Americans want off shore drilling now! He is just about against what the mainstream wants in every area...

You neglect to point out that 43 percent of the poll respondents were self-identified as Democrats and only 25 percent Republicans. You also forgot that 33 percent had high negative feelings about Obama and 55 percent said McCain would be a more safe choice for America.

So...41% still backing the most corrupt, incompetent, and failed political party in history?

Looks like 41% of Americans are like cows...even getting hit in the head with a 2 x 4 for eight years STILL doesn't get their attention.

These people DESERVE exactly what they're getting...the rest of us don't.

So, the mainstream is radical... good to know. I'll head RIGHT and vote McCain. I'll have to get use to the new term>RADICAL MAINSTREAM

Americans are not about to make a sudden left turn into the swamp of socialism. Obama offers the same old tired game. Why have voters in Europe elected conservatives as their leaders?
