Cheney's a Ford, except on Iraq

Aircraft carrier CV9-78 now has a name, though it won't be on the seas for another seven or eight years. It's named after a former Navy man, the late president Gerald R. Ford, who died right after Christmas.

Vice President Cheney, who served as Ford's chief of staff, went to the Pentagon Tuesday for the solemn ceremony and praised his courage and leadership qualities of his former boss. "Because of his character and his Navy experience, Jerry Ford knew a thing or two about riding out a storm," Cheney said.

Those looking for a little twist to this ceremony might be tempted to say that Cheney was not only making a reference about Ford, but also about himself, as the reported steady hand and rock on the Bush administration's Iraqi policy and on the need to ride out the storm.
