FBI celebrates centennial

The cavernous National Building Museum was filled with G-men and G-women today as the Federal Bureau of Investigation marked its 100th anniversary with speeches and ceremony headlined by Director Robert Mueller and Attorney General Michael Mukasey.

Other guests included former directors William Webster, William Sessions and Louis Freeh.

Master of ceremonies John Pistole, the bureau's deputy director, also singled out Walter Walsh, a 101 year-old retired special agent, who brought a direct connection to the bureau's salad days in the 1930s, having worked on the Ma Barker and Baby Face Nelson cases.

Mueller spoke on a dais in front of a blue and gold backdrop with the message "A Century of Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity" -- the latter three words comprising the bureau's motto and the theme of his speech.
