Fort Lauderdale street car: Is city California dreaming?
Promotional rendering of The Wave transit system
Fort Lauderdale has decided to ante up part of the money ($37.5 million) for a proposed light rail loop downtown. I can't wait for the sourdough bread and clam chowder.
You can download the city's promotional materials and map of where the train would go or watch a short video of what the intersection of Andrews Avenue and 2nd Street could look like.

So? When will they extend this to the beach ,or Sawgrass Mills ? To ParaPHRASE the Beach boys: "Catch the wave AND YOU'RE SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD"

Joe,
I am going to ride it. So are a lot of other people that live and work and shop downtown. Eventually it should be exteded to the beach, the convention center and perhaps out north and NW to aid redevelopment. This is critical for making the downtown a walkable neighborhood where people can get around if they need to go 6-8 blocks and shouldn't have to get in and out of a car to do that. How many more 80 year olds need to crash into buildings before you realize we need other ways to get around. God knows bicycling isn't safe or pleasant around here. When gas is $5/gallon driving a mile for milk will seem pretty stupid - not to mention you're supporting the terrorists with every gallon you guzzle.

mark, this will connect with the Sawgrass Mills through connection with the future East-West transit system. See my post at http://www.transitmiami.com/2008/04/wave-rolls-on.html
