Civil War Breaks Out In Blogonia

Maybe Wonkette set the appropriately catty tone when she rolled her eyes at the "Blogging, Journalism and Credibility" chin-scratch-fest at Harvard last weekend ("The upside is that this conference takes place on a weekend, so there's a good chance that everyone will be bombed by noon. Oh wait, it's Harvard. Well, maybe they'll drink a lot of green tea and get gassy.") Since then, some of the most media-coddled blogirati have gotten their bloomers in a nasty, nasty knot over a column that Jack Shafer of Slate wrote that bascially said they were all just too full of themselves. Jay Rosen ("It's decency Jack Shafer lacks") and Jeff Jarvis ("Shafer's column is pretty clueless") are among those leading the charge. Here is a Technorati link for Shafer that will give you links to most of the hooey, and Shafer at the bottom of his original column has appended a nice set of links to bashers and praisers.
