Meet Sylvia King-Cohen
Sylvia King-Cohen is Oklahoma born and bred, the youngest of seven children.She grew up herding sheep, cattle and hogs. And, when she drags her Chicago-born husband and New York-born son back to Oklahoma for vacations, the family still herds cattle, goats and hogs.They also raise heirloom-breed turkeys, chickens, ducks, geese and guineas.
Sylvia went to undergraduate and graduate school at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.She was editor of the college paper. After graduation,she worked for the March of Dimes in public relations and education before moving to western Oklahoma to work for the Weatherford Daily News.She eventually moved to Texas and worked for the Dallas Times Herald, then moved to Atlanta to work in sports for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.She made her way to New York in 1995 and worked as Newsday’s high school and college sports editor for New York City before moving to features the features department. In addition to editing the weekly community calendars and other listings,she regularly writes a makeover feature that runs Fridays and the Asking the Clergy column that runs Saturdays, in addition to other sorts of articles.
