Designer Derek Lam, who began his fashion career assisting Geoffrey Beene and who was vice president of design for Michael Kors before launching his own label in 2003, has purchased a three-bedroom, two-bath oceanfront property in Fire Island Pines with partner Jan-Hendrik Schlottman.

Public records show that the pair paid $2,150,000 for the home on Ocean Walk, which features a fireplace, pool and hot tub. Lam’s clients include actresses Demi Moore and Hilary Swank, and Long Island gal Natalie Portman.

Lam, whose fashions are sold at high end retail outlets worldwide, is opening his first freestanding store on Crosby Street in SoHo, set to open in 2009.
