Dear Drunken Islanders Fans:
If you want to know why many regard your organization as “second-class” in the NHL, look no further than your actions on Monday night.
You and the other “paying customers” who pelted the ice with beer bottles at the end of Monday night’s loss to Buffalo in Game 3 should be rounded up and barred from the Nassau Coliseum permanently.
Regardless of what you think of the result, the officiating, or your own sorry state in life, what you did extracted another ounce of class from a franchise you would claim to support – a franchise that has seen its respect level plummet at an alarming rate since the early 1990s.
Maybe you don’t realize this: When you purchase tickets to a sporting event, you pay for the right to cheer, to yell and scream, and to boo. But you don’t purchase the right to ruin that sporting event by destroying the very surface on which it is played. Throwing beer onto the ice is just as stupid, childish, and Neanderthal as beating up opposing fans in the stands.
Grow up. If you want respect, act in a respectful manner.
Now try not to try to get home without killing anyone on the Meadowbrook Parkway, moron.

I was at the game and I couldn't agree with you more. But Sabres fans don't deserve that much respect either. I've seen Red Sox/Yankee rivalries where the fans were nicer to each other.
1. Sabres fans, it's their house. Cheer for your team otherwise keep your mouths shut.
2. Islander fans, make some sense when yelling at the refs.
3. Islanders fans, the only people you made look like a-holes were yourselves. No other team in the NHL has more disrespectful fans than the Islanders. And you make all us other Long Islanders look like a-holes.
I'm really glad I'm a Devils fan because I'd be ashamed to be an Islanders fan after tonight. I have more respect for Rangers fans and we Devils fans hate the Rangers.
Oh and another thing. You get mad at the Rangers for disrespecting your Islander girls. Maybe you should learn from your own advice. Seriously, who throws beer bottles onto the ice at other players, now that's worse than what Lundqvist did, a lot worse.
If more people besides suit wearing big wigs sat at the garden you'd see the same thing happen.
Yeah Islander fans are classless.
We should act classy and tip over a guy's ambulance like Ragholes do.
Reason No. 273 why I'm in the process of moving out of this sh*t hole known as Long Island after growing up here all of my 31 years.
I was at the game tonight and saw a four or five-year-old boy hit on the neck with a beer bottle about three rows in front of me.
Typical classless Long Islanders.
I am totally ashamed to say that I grew up here. Long Islanders are the most classless people going. It's an embarrassment to say that I live among these animals, let alone root for the same team as them.
Do you people defecate in your beds too?
HAHA. Ranger fans calling us classless? When Lafontaine got hurt back in the 90's, Rangers fans were banging on and almost tipped over his ambulance after he got taken off in a stretcher.
Wanna talk about classless? Talk about the refs. They were directly responsible for all 3 Sabre goals.
And any ranger fan can't even try to say we're classless. Seriously. Look at your own damn team's past 40 years.
Rags and sheDevil fans, NO ONE CARES about what you think. This is Islander country and we do what we want, when we want. Go sit on your hands at MSG and that other place.
Still moaning about the Lafontaine/ambulance incident in which a handful of drunken hooligans from surrounding bars who weren't even at the game gave the rest of us a bad name? Grow up, morons. Then again, you're all still living in the past, as in 25 years ago, the last time your organization showed any class.
I'm a Sabres fan, but I live in Valley Stream. I love the Islanders, just not when they play Buffalo. That being said, when I'm in the building for the sabres, I respect the coliseum and the fans. I cheer when a goal is scored, but that's about it. You wont hear a peep out of me otherwise
I will also say that I have all the props in the world for Isles fans. They're passionate and knowledgeable. I was even a season ticket holder for a few years. However, last night was, by far, the worst live sporting event I've ever been to.
During the moment of silence, some idiot near 329 yelled out "buffalo sucks b*lls." I would find out later that another nimrod yelled out "rangers suck c*ck" and that it was picked up on a mic by versus.
I was also treated to a fight that started because an islanders kept cursing at a sabres fan dad who was with his kids. The sabres fan told him to talk all he wanted, but to watch his language. Needless to say, the isles fan didnt and a brawl broke out.
Upon leaving the coliseum, I was called just about every word in the book. One guy stuck a finger in my face and told me to "go back to buffalo you f*cking hick f*ggot."
I dont think any less of Islander fans, because like i said, I respect the hell out of you and I'm actually one of you (in most cases), but last night, for the first time in my life, I was ashamed to be a Long Islander.
where is my long island ducks hockry team? bring back the L.I. arena and get rid of that scum of the earth team, in that sh*t hole of a place.LETS GO RANGERS!!!!
Very disguested at the loss last night. The penalty on Robitaille was absolutely crazy to be called at anytime especially with under 2 minutes left!!! I am not one to complain about the refs normally but why is it we have a minimum of 2 less power plays every game? It is not that the other team is working harder every game because even when we outplay them we do not get the calls. It has gotten worse since Simon as well... Oh one more thing to all of you idiot Ranger fans who are on this blog, you will end this year the way you have ended every 66 out of the last 67 years, with no cup!!!
Let's go Islanders!!!!!!!!!
:-*
Love you too, buddy!
"If you want to know why many regard your organization as “second-class” in the NHL, look no further than your actions on Monday night."
Unlike back in the early 90s, when Rangers fans tossed seat cushions on the ice in protest, and Van Biesbrouck said he was glad it wasn't machete night.
Look we have the pot calling the kettle black. One question for you DORK.How many shots did you have before your picture was taken?Look at your red nose, red cheeks, slanted eye's??????I was there to,and no I didn't throw anything. But if I did I would of tossed your drunk a$$ over the glass.Word of advice..You'll NEVER make it covering HOCKEY!!Do us all a favor & switch to say ladies tennis.Better yet leave LONG ISLAND & go to Canada and cover curling.Seems to be more your speed!
[I}Wanna talk about classless? Talk about the refs. They were directly responsible for all 3 Sabre goals.[/I]
It must be a great feeling to constantly spew anger and whine about inequities, but never ever have to face any acountability...Did the refs cause the Isles to get outshot by 16 in the third too?
moron.
Funny how the ISLANDERS ARE DOMINTATING THE HOCKEY COVERAGE FOR WEEKS NOW AND THE THIRD-RATE RAGS ARE JUST INVISIBLE in Manhattan?
Talk about second-class citizens.
will Msg even be sold-out tonight or will corporate knick fans take a night off....lol
oh yes, the only reason rag fan can't litter the ice is because the seats are a mile away from the ice. the days of real fans being downstairs is long gone, just like msg fans are long gone by the start the of the third peirod.
get ready for another Dolan-annouced sellout tonight.
I grew up on L.I. and was proud to be in attendence for the Isles first two cups. The new generation of isles fans show very little class and hockey intelligence compared to those of the 70's and 80's. All of this loud music, and minor league antics (shooting t-shirts into crowd and the Ice Girls) is embarrasing. Why do we not hear about a new arena anymore. Is that project dead? Fans throwing items on ice should have their season tix revoked. I will be at the game tomorrow night (making the trek from NJ) and would hope that PA announcer makes it clear that fans will be subject to discipline action for throwing anything in the stands. BTW, the concessions make you leave the plastic caps to bottles (plastic) purchased at the Coliseum. How many geniuses did it take to thinmk that one up. How about the bottles themselves!!! Bring back paper cups.
To call Islander fans second-class is an insult to second class fans everywhere. Islander fans are nothing short of white trash.
I live on Long Island and last night there were angry drivers in Camaros everywhere. Lot's of Tesla blaring from said Camaros.
I'm not condoning the actions of SOME isles fans last night but it show the frustration of passionate fans. How do you expect that to happen in msg? The people sitting in all those corporate seats don't know who they are cheering for.
Let's not forget that we are fans of a sport that does not outlaw fighting.
Hike up your skirts.
TESLA, LOL
I loved Tesla, they rocked.
I saw them do an acoustic show at North foork theater a couple of eyars ago, it was awesome.
Boo Hoooooooooooooo!!!!!
Boo Hoooooooooooooo!!!
I hate Long Island waaaaaa! I hate Islanders fans waaaa!
White Trash!! Boo Hoooo!!!!!
This never happened anywhere else but here blah blah!!!!!!
Casey, get a real job. You're ripping every islander fan and how many do you actually think threw things on to the ice. Probably about 2%. Don't group everyone together because of a few drunk morons. That makes you worse than the people throwing bottles last night. You bum.
casey: you want to talk about class, and then you make a joke about killing people on the meadowbrook?
was that intentional? you
are a low-life scumbag, just like every other ranger fan.
PS- i threw my hat on the ice when Kozlov scored 4 goals at the overrated dump
called the garden on Dec. 3
PSS messier has AIDS!!!
Geeze, this schmuk actually gets on Isles fans for beating up other teams fans? My God, Rag$ fans are a hell of a lot worse than us in that category! When bad fan antics happen at MSG they are celebrated by their fans, and when it happens at Nassau some Rag idiot with no life writes a blog about being "second-class". Why don't you stop being a hypocrit? How about Rag$ fans not start fights with Isles fans at MSG? You know why nobody asks for that? BECAUSE IT IS PART OF NY HOCKEY! I was there with a Sabres fan last night, and even he was agreeing with us and didn't blame us.
If other teams fans don't want to get beat up, then don't run your mouth. If the NHL doesn't want beer thrown onto the ice, then tell your officials to call a decent game. This isn't Tampa or Phoenix where you'll get a smile and baked goods, it's New York.
Hey, Pot: Stop calling Kettle black and stick to your own worthless, disrespectful team. I'm sure you're really proud of them spitting on teenage girls. Where was your outrage then?
In response to "No other team in the NHL has more disrespectful fans than the Islanders. And you make all us other Long Islanders look like a-holes". Go to an Islander-Ranger game or a game at the Garden, Ranger fans are 10 times worse than the Islander fans. I root for the Islanders since I live on Long Island now, but I am originally from an area that would normally root for the Rangers.......I hate the Rangers because of the team and the fans......they both suck! Rangers fans are by far the most disrespectful fans around. I do not agree with last nights display, but I also do not agree with the way the game was being called......it's obvious who the officals are going for in this series! Someone paid off the officials very well.
"Regardless of what you think of the result, the officiating, or your own sorry state in life,... "
You are a blogger on newsday.com. So is it your sorry state in life that give you this much anger?
Maybe if the ref blew the whistle as quickly as he did when they were near Ryan Miller, there wouldn't be a play to review. How long was Buffalo at DP to get that NO-GOAL? God forbid the Islanders got near Miller or took a shot at Miller......when they did take shots, the refs blew the whistle. Oh, poor Miller got hit in the face...wah wah! DP took one it the gut!
In response to Alan about the Islander fans with the big mouths, yes they should have respect for the children, but this happens at all the games when someone wears the opposing teams jersey, not just Buffalo! You say Buffalo fans have respect, what about the Buffalo fan who was in the smoking section at Gate 16 holding the Buffalo Jersey calling the Islander fans f**king fa**ots, what about him and his language? He got what he deserved though.
i couldn't agree with you more mike casey. thanks for telling it like it is.
hey mike, they should let you write columns in the paper. oh, wait a minute, you're not allowed to criticize the icelanders in newsday.
There has been a season long witch hunt against the Isles/Ted Nolan, and it was never more evident than on Monday night. As for throwing stuff on the ice, I agree, it is wrong but to have a "Lady Liberty" fan tell us were classless has got to be the ultimate in hilarity!! Not only should Ranger fans relate to this kind of response to the refs, but they should take note that this is only a fraction of what Ranger fans do at their games, whenever the corporations allow them "500 available tickets" upstairs for $175!! As for the Meadowbrook Pkwy dope above, enjoy the skell railroad!!
JohnnyIslander,
Check the rule book. If a goalie gets hit in the face, the whislte blows. The ref didn't see DP get hit in the face and as soon as DP told the ref about it, the play stopped, even though the Isles did not have control of the puck.
You guys were outplayed Monday night, get over it.
"Throwing beer onto the ice is just as stupid, childish, and Neanderthal as beating up opposing fans in the stands."
But throwing squid, hats and fish is cool? You and your sport make no sense.
I dont remember when being a hockey fan had to do with class. Lets face it, no matter what team your a fan of, at the end of the day you're still cheering for a bunch of toothless athletes who earn a living playing a rough sport. So lets relax with the "second-class" comments cause last time i checked, you werent working for a "first class" newspaper. By the way, Michael Casey, i couldve sworn i saw you sitting next to me at the game tossing a beer onto the ice with all the rest of us "morons". Theres a reason nerds dont play hockey.
Welcome to New York. If you are going to b**ch about the fans, then go to jersey and be the only fan in the building.
rangers fans are queers, who know nothing about the game of hockey. They are people who go because there work gave them free tickets.
We Ranger fans are always courteous and well-behaved
just visited your nice arena this past week. came in from montreal, where i go to school. and am getting surgery done here. i dont understand why fans on canadiens sites like HABS INSIDE/OUT and HABSFANS.com are always putting this area of the country or its teams down so much, they call the coliseum the mauseleum etc. anyways, thought i would tell you about my visit here, and maybe, when im back home, will tell fans on those sites a thing or two.
The behavior of the fans seems to get its cues from the top, and it works its way on down. That particular game, which I was at, was just one example. Go on to the IslanderMania board and witness the Moderators and their insanity. Or try interfacing with the front office. Has anyone here ever tried to lodge a complaint with the Islanders? Good luck. The rudeness by the team's management is unbelievable.
