Uh oh, Red Sox Nation. Don't look now, but those Yankees are starting to chip away at your monsterous lead in the American League East.
On June 2, the Red Sox had a 13.5-game lead. Nine days later, it's down to 9.5.
Chip, chip, chip.
With 100 games left for Boston and 101 for the Yanks, including six more games against each other, this is no time for celebrating such a reduction.
However, since the entire baseball media world made it sound like the Yankees were contributing less to society than David Hasselhoff, it's worth noting even for a small moment that the lead is down to single digits.
The chipping has begun. At some point late this summer, will the Orioles or Blue Jays look at the standings and say, "Wow, how 'bout them Red Sox? I haven't seen a collapse like that since they torpedoed that casino in 'Ocean's Eleven.'"

keep waiting for that magical moment that turned the yankee season around... losers...

The smugness is comical.
History tends to repeat itself.
Your miracle in 04' clouds the fact that the real losers are the Sawx.
Sling your pretentious remarks in October not in June.
The collapse has begun. Five games gained in just nine days...uh oh Fenway faithful.
Shhhhhhhhh.....let a sleeping dog lie.
Actually, I DO remember a collapse WORSE than that....2004 AL Championships...duh!
lead down to 8.5 now. Schilling is going quit soon.
There was never a curse...the red sox just stunk for 86 years!!!
I don't know why they call it the world series when it's usually played in the Bronx.
the world series has not been in the bronx for a long time now chief
1.Hey Chief it was here 4yrs ago when the Marlins beat the Yanks but hey whose counting.
2.Keep saying there was no Curse and youll be celebrating your next championship in 2090.
It is way to early to say who is going to win the AL east, yeah the yankees won 9 out of 13, but what goes up must come down.
Red Soxs Fans do not have to start worrying yet, they still have a very strong team.
Yankee fans have their frist steak of the season and they think they are going to win the world series
BTW last yankees world series vist was 2001 (6 years ago) last one they won was 2000.
Maybe its the Curse of A-Rod who cant make a clutch play in the playoffs (unless you call slapping balls out of other players gloves, or tossing elbows, and of course screaming at rookie third basemen when they are looking dead up in the sky for a fly ball.)
Well as a sox fan I am worried about their hitting at the moment but in no way am I worried about the yankees. The yankees are the highest paid individuals with big egos. Unfortunately for yankee fans it takes a team to win the world series and these yankee's are individuals who can not function as a team. They cant wait to see one of there teammates fail so they are worth more money to the organization. The sox play and beleave they are a team and function as one they will turn it around again and the yankees can watch the redsox on Tv in october and of course root for the national league from their couches made of gold. GO SOX
John Smith - So Josh Beckett beat who in the 2003 World Series?
Sean- So Curt Schilling, Manny Ramirez, and JD Drew are not highly paid individuals with big egos? And Pedro Martinez wasn't one before them?
I see.
