Happy July 4th!

fireworks.bmpQuite an effort by the Yankees last night, eh? I've largely given the Yankees a free pass this season - the whole "transition year" deal" - but as I wrote in my column, I thought Joe Girardi was justified in calling an ultra-long team meeting.

Meanwhile, that lazy dog Jose Reyes hit a three-run triple to help the Mets blow out the Cardinals. Trade him! David Lennon shares my frustration on the matter of Reyes getting too much blame.

The NY Post is reporting that Reyes nearly got into a fight with Keith Hernandez on the flight to St. Louis Sunday night after Keith called him out for throwing the glove Sunday afternoon. I don't trust the Post and haven't seen this story anywhere else yet.

Sandy, Reyes confirmed the story on the record. Why wouldn't you trust that?

I didn't hear about this either. Ken, I'm glad that my post made you patriotic!! USA!!! USA!!!

Ken even though I consider the sportswriters the only credible employees at the Post, it's still the Post and this happened 5 days ago and nobody knew? Just like the Santana thing last week, maybe they blew this out of proportion a bit. In any case Reyes has been playing hard this week and maybe Hernandez has to address this now (too bad, I think I get the Phillies network tonight on MLB Extra Innings.)

Sandy, I was at the Santana news conference last week. I wrote a similar column to what everyone else wrote. As I said earlier, that "Don't Blame Me!" column was 100% accurate.

As for this Reyes-Hernandez incident, right, it happened 5 days ago and nobody knew. It's not like the Mets were going to announce it. Journalism is largely about digging up stuff that parties don't want to be known. Sometimes it takes longer than others.

I hope Hernandez doesn't cower to Reyes like he did to whoever it was 8 years ago or so when he said the Mets quit. This is why I love Hernandez, because he's so honest. He shouldn't apologize.
