Yankees DVD Contest, Day 8

02sandomir.1.190.jpgTime again to give away a copy of this DVD.

Let's focus today on August 6, 1979, when the Yankees defeated the Orioles, 5-4, just hours after burying their captain Thurman Munson. Bobby Murcer, who delivered one of the eulogies at Munson's funeral, drove in all five runs for the Yankees, including a game-ending, two-run single.

Who was the Yankees' starting catcher, in Munson's place, that night?

The first person to correctly e-mail me the answer at kdavidoff@newsday.com will get a copy of the DVD. No repeat winners from the first seven days.

Thanks to this site for the photo.

UPDATE, 3:25 p.m.: We have a winner! Loyal commenter Jack knew that Brad Gulden started at catcher for the Yankees on that memorable night. Stop by again tomorrow.

  • Self-promotion alert: I will be on WFAN tomorrow morning at 11:00 with Adam Gerstenhaber. And Sunday night at 10:30, I'll be on "Sports Extra" with Duke Castiglione on Fox 5.

and some people said all-sports radio would never fly... great coverage of the hot stove, Ken!

    Who's Adam Gerstenhaber?? :(

I don't know who Adam is but I am guessing that his Grandparents probably lived on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. Good luck Ken

Adam Gerstenhaber is "Adam the Bull" who join WFAN in 2007. He did play-by-play for Batavia Muckdogs of the New York Penn League. He roots for the Cubs, Bengals and St. John's Red Storm basketball. This guy roots for the Cubs and the Bengals, 2 teams that can't get out of their way.
