Back to School
The education of Lastings Milledge continued Tuesday night when he learned firsthand that Fenway's Green Monster is no joke. Milledge's misplay of Manny Ramirez's fly ball into a two-run double was a pivotal moment in the game and the Mets never recovered. While Milledge is obvously talented, and has helped the Mets during his unexpected stay in the majors, do you think he should return to Triple-A Norfolk for more grooming when Cliff Floyd returns? Or should the Mets find a way to keep him on the roster and demote someone else?

Lastings Milledge should return to Norfolk so he can play everyday. You can see even now, since Xavier Nady returned vs. Cincinnati a week ago Monday, Lastings has shared left-field with Endy Chavez. When Clff Floyd returns, that will result in even less time for what would be a talented, but crowded outfield. A young player like Lastings needs to play everyday and get at bats. As the season evolves, there may be a place for Lastings, but his place once Cliff returns is in the International League with the Norfolk Tides.
Lastings Milledge has adapted to Major League Baseball very well. From what I've seen, he is a good listener and corrects his mistakes after making them.
It would be interesting to hear how he feels, whether to stay with the Mets or go back to Triple-A.
My feelings is to send him back.
His contributions to the Mets have been noteworthy however, he needs more practice hitting Curve Balls and patience at the plate.
He need not swing for a Home Run, at every time at bat, which at times seems to be his goal.
His fielding has also been noteworthy. I was very impressed with his arm strength especially, throwing out a man at Third base.
He at times, has missed the cut-off man, something that will come with more time.
I think another year at Triple-A, we will see a more mature and consistent Ballplayer.
He has the tools and ability to make a run for Rookie of the Year.
This season is for the players that have been here during the building process. The Mets need more help in the Pitching department, the spot that Lastings is occuping, should be used for that position.
It can't hurt to groom him now for next year. He learns well and appears to be attentive to his coaches. He is young but he has a lot of talent and a lot of heart. Keep him.
Milledge needs to go back to triple A. Lesson #1 - catch balls with two - that's 2 - hands.
It's pretty sad when the best defensive leftfielder in the game is Manny Ramirez.
All Lastings Milledge needs for grooming is to look, act, and behave like a major leaguer. Right now he's a Manny Rameriz wannabe.
