Fenway still loves Pedro

Red Sox Nation may have turned on Johnny Damon, but today's reception for Pedro Martinez here at Fenway Park suggests it will be a lovefest when he takes the mound tomorrow night. Pedro was cheered from the moment he emerged from the Red Sox dugout -- yep, he took his former route to the field -- and plenty of Sox fans wore their old No. 45 jerseys to the game. There was not a single boo heard the entire time Martinez strolled around his former home during batting practice.

In other news, Duaner Sanchez (pinched nerve) should be available in the bullpen tonight and Paul Lo Duca (bruised thumb) is back in the lineup after sitting Sunday.

Wrong blog a - hole!
How did 1986 taste?

Boston Fan, I find it ironic, although the irony is probably lost on someone like you, that you come on here chastising and shouting down Mets fans who are actually happy that their team is winning for once, yet you do the exact same thing that you make fun of everyone else for. So now you come on here crowing like the Red Sox have accomplished something. They have demolished the Mets twice. I'm really happy for you. The Mets have played less-than-stellar baseball the last two days. In fact, they have downright sucked. But you know what? It's a 162-game season. The Mets still have a huge double-digit lead in the NL East. And the Red Sox, despite the big run they have gone on in the last few weeks (10-game winning streak) have done nothing to distinguish themselves in the AL East. They have let a broken-down Yankees team that is missing 2 100+ RBI players, a team with a starting pitching rotation that is all smoke-and-mirrors, hang around, and find themselves only 3.5 games in front of those same Yanks. You come on here and crow about how the NL is the weaker league, yet cheer and taunt everyone when your team does what it's supposed to do, mainly, beat what you term as inferior teams. But let me remind you of this, in case you forgot: In 1986, the Red Sox and Mets played in a charity game. Everyone in New England knew that was going to be the World Series matchup, and all the "Red Sox will be the 1986 champs!!!" hysteria started then and there. Then in the World Series, Game 6 came, and all the Red Sox and their fans had their champagne ready and their championship caps and t-shirts handed out, and what happened? I'll spare you the gory details, but I think you know how that turned out. It seems like the Red Sox and their fans for some reason always sell the Mets short. Obviously the only way you can get any pleasure in your sad life is by going on other teams' blogs and acting like you and your ilk, mainly, other pathetic Red Sox fans, have a monopoly on cheering for your team. Well go ahead. Maybe someone forgot to tell you that it's a 162-game season. Maybe you think that the Red Sox are getting some measure of revenge for the utter embarassment of the 1986 World Series. Whatever. There's no explaining people like you. I'm sure you come onto this blog and actually think you're witty, or funny, or maybe both. But the truth is that you come across as yet another sad, delusional Boston Fan who is always the cock-of-the-walk at the midpoint of the year, and then walks away year-after-year with his tail betwen his legs, muttering "we'll do it next year". One world title in 88 seasons? If that makes you proud, then I salute you. I am still at a loss at how you can come on here acting like the Red Sox are something special when they're not even close to being the best team in the AL (ironically enough, a claim that the team that you love to make fun of, the New York Mets, CAN make in the NL), but if it makes you happy, go for it. We NEW YORK METS FANS will hopefully wait to celebrate until the end of the season, and we'll make sure to save any champagne until we actually WIN something, unlike a certain baseball organization and its fans who felt like utter fools in 1986 when they underestimated those same New York Mets.
