Del-Got it
Carlos Delgado finally smacked his first home run of July, a solo shot off Reds starter Bronson Arroyo in the fourth inning of today's game. He had only three extra-base hits in 42 at-bats this month and whiffed in his first at-bat today, giving him nearly three times as many strikeouts (15) as hits (6) to that point.

Well here goes... now ESPN is reporting that Lastings Milledge is gone to the Philadelphia Phillies for Bobby Abreu. SO... it is as I always had feared!--Cliff Floyd will become the "1986 George Foster Christ Figure" for the 2006 Mets. Abreu: the Lee Mazzilli backstabber who becomes the new left fielder. Floyd: the crown of thorns wearing malcontent who gets a token share of the World Series money. When will the madness end ? When?
I just read that "Rumour" [I hope it is still one]
Please don't trade Milledge, save him for next year. Floyd is hot now and Abreu to me is not a good fit to this team. Leave the team be. Find another starter from within.
Why would the Phillies trade Abreu within their own division?
Better yet, why would the Mets trade Milledge within their own division? I sure as hell would not pick up Abreu's option.
Unless the Mets can get Dontrelle Willis, Milledge stays !
Milledge has been a problem at every level he's played. A media hyped jerk with too many issues who will never put up the numbers has.
will never put up the numbers Abreu has.
Abreu has put up some pretty good numbers in his career, but 8 home runs playing in that bandbox the Phillies call home? What the hell is he going to do when he plays in the cavernous Shea Stadium? And since when have the Mets had a problem scoring runs this year? They need a pitcher more than they need Abreu. Trading Milledge for Abreu still doesn't address the fact that the rotation is prety thin right now.
In order for the New York Mets to make and win the World Series they need a great starting pitcher in Dontrelle Willis. Now in order to do that Omar Minaya would have to give away a top prospect in Lastings Milledge. The Mets will regret it if they do not go through with a trade like this. I personally would love this trade for the Mets because Dontrelle is only 24 years and one of the best pitchers in the National league. The reason why I would give away Milledge is because he can not hit a off speed pitch and I think he is way over hyped. Also there is other guys like Soriano that the
Mets should look out for over than Abreu because he is ten times better than Abreu.
The only way u trade Milledge away is 2 reasons; 1 Martinez, Glavine & Wagner are old and wont last forever much less a year or two. 2 Millegde is the same as Reyes when he 1st started, extremely raw and needs to learn HOW to play as a professional. Will need 2 seasons to reach Reyes current level of play.
The Mets can trade Milledge, Heilman and either Maine or 1st Rd pick P.Humber for D.Willis. U cannot trade Pelfery for a starting pitcher , u just cant that would be dumber than the Kazmir trade which was just a panic move by a GM that was trying to save his job and not think about the Team's future.
A staff of Martinez, Willis, Galvine, Pelfery for a playoff run sounds good. U think the Stankees would like Pelfery as their game 4 starter instead of J.Wright, S.Chacon, S.Poson or Have u seen me in years C.Pavano? i think soooooooo.
And as for Abreu... are u kidding me? where would he play? He has less HR than Nady and Floyd! And he has more At Bats than either and he hasnt be hurt like Nady or Floyd has been. And i tell ya since the all star break 2005 look at his stats...hm... juiced anyone? im just saying what would be good about this proposed traded? NOTHING! OH yeah i forgot we can pay him 13 million next year for less production and more money than Nady... yeah yeah makes sense to NOBODY! Can u say Panic Move! Pitching wins not Hitting!
Its just a simple question. Who would u rather have B.Abreu or D.Willis? oh yeah i forgot... Who would u rather have if u had to trade away Lastings Milledge. Yeah thats what i thought only Dontrelle.
End of discussion. Mets are 20 games over 500 without Abreu. Why would the need him? Just a stupid properstition.
Milledge will not bring Willis. Too many problems. that's why he fell to the Mets.
Lastings is a horny dumb ass who stands a better chance of going to jail then being a star.
One other thing. Fernando Martinez the young outfielder has better all around tools than Lastings Milledge. So although he's only 17 years old, He has Andrew Jones type ability from what i've read oh and by the way he's a lefty. So giving up on Milledge seems like i high price in terms of talent. I wouldn't go to crazy people. Pitching has always been the key to any Met Championship Season.
Big Dipper: Oh my ! Do I detect a little hostility from you brother towards Mr. Lastings Milledge? Geez, you portray Lastings as a "horny dumb ass" destined to get in trouble, jail you say?....congratulations, you just described half of my graduating class from high school. Where are they now? You would be surprised how things work out. We all have our Springer moments.
if "horny dumbass" is the best way to downplay Lastings talent than u are nothing more than an ignorant Stankee fan! The kid has talent, its just a matter of how long can u stand to wait for it to mature. With the age factor of Pedro, Tom and Billy, we need another proven National based starter to alleve the pressure. But not at the expense of destroying the farm system. Fernando Martinez, Matt Lindstrom, Jesus Flores and (Phillip Humber) if they can hold onto him have significate talent to help out in the majors later on. Now is not the time to make moves just for the sake of making them. Just relax.
its THAT same ignorant talk from Al "Stankee for life" Leiter, Rick "i can fix him in 5 minutes" Peterson and Mike "Im way past my prime" Piazza that led to the ousting of Scott "look at me im in the All-Star game" Kazmir beginng traded for Victor "i dont have a spine and ouch my shoulder still hurts, I TOLD U" Zambrano.
The New York Mets have a chance of a lifetime. They are the best team in the national league by far so what they need to do right now is get that one piece that is missing which is the D-TRAIN (Dontrelle Willis) If they get him I am almost positive this NYM's team will be the 2006 World Series Champions.
Mets have traded away a TON of talent in the last 3 years: Kazmir, Wiggington, Petitt, Gaby Hernandez, and Mike Jacobs. To add Lastings, Pelfery, Heilman, Carlos Gomez and maybe Phillip Humber to that list would desimate the farm system. To only have David Wright and Jose Reyes while their talent is considerable just goes to show why the Atlanta Braves are the best in the business. While Atlanta does trade away talent there is always more if not better talent coming up right behind them... The Mets dont have that luxury. They have to careful as to who they trade away and more importantly why... to give Pelfery away for Dontrelle would be counter productive... Its like they are still paying for the Kazmir trade a couple of years ago. That would be too high of a price to pay. Its like they would be trading Kazmir, Milledge, Pelfery, Humber and Heilman away and only having only Willis to show for it cause Zambrano is not coming back. thats just crazy not to mention stupid!
My last post regarding this issue. Wouldn't any GM love to have young talent like: Reyes, Wright, Kazmir, Pelfery, Milledge, Humber, Heilman, Jacobs, Petitt, on the team with F.Martinez, J.Flores and M.Lindstrom coming up in a few years... i know the OMAR & the N.Y.Mets fans would. Later all
David calm down big fella, it's just baseball. Brother listen...sounds like you suffered through the bad seasons just like the rest of us, that is why the winning times are a celebration of life. Lets give Humber a chance to heal
from Tommy John Surgery, and how about giving Fernando Martinez at least 200 at bats before anointing him as a star. Things can change. For the record: I really hated losing Yusmiero Petit...I think he has great potential. But you can't enjoy the games if you are too bummed, save that for the gamblers and fantasy league folks. Look, chances are...no deals will be made at all (see last years deadline dud)
Brother Frank did half your graduating class have sex with 11yr. old girls?
Big Dipper: Please don't start a "Lastings Lie" contest here guy, have a cold one, chill out and look up the facts before you post. Having a bad day, kinda? well I don't really want to read a crap ass blog about Lastings sex life, especially fake stories like yours. If the girl was eleven he'd BE IN JAIL !!
Lastings was drafted as a teenager!!HE is a FREE MAN, Mets did extensive checking....blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah, Oh, are the Mets still creampuffing the Astros? Lets go WATCH THE GAME INSTEAD OF THE BS.
Brother Frank, Not BS, not girl but girls. Check with Florida Court and stop being an apologist. We do not need this type of player who in the long run will be more of a negative force than an asset.
How 'bout the Puerto Rican Elvis, José Valentin, coming through with another grand slam? And even thought I think Ron Darling was caught up in the moment (Valentin for Comeback Player of the Year? Hmmm, I think Nomar Garciaparra might beg to differ), Valentin has been a great surprise for the Mets and has put up the type of numbers and defense that they wish they could have gotten from Kaz Matsui.
Trading for Livan Hernandez is not the answer. Omar, finish the job you started and deal Lastings,Pelfery and Heilman to the Marlins for Willis and Uggla or to Tampa Bay for Kazmir and Lugo.We are giving up potential to win now and by the time these guys are ready Pedro,Glavine and Wagner will be finished.
I doubt that Devil Rays are going to hand over the anchor of their pitching staff after stealing him from the Mets. Wishful thinking, though.
Why not,Tampa is looking to cut payroll and always liked Heilman. Pelfery has the potential to be better than Kazmir and Delmon Young makes Lastings look like a choir boy.
Scott Kazmir makes $371,700. Aaron Heilman makes $359,000. Yeah I guess the Devil Rays would save $12,700, but that hardly qualifies as "cutting payroll". Why in the world would the Rays trade Kazmir for Heilman anyway? And assuming that the Rays would be amenable to a Pelfrey for Kazmir trade, why trade for a young pitcher who MIGHT be good in the majors when you already have a young pitcher who IS good in the majors?
Mr. Met you forgot Lugo who is making $4.95 million this season and wants 8 million in a 4-5 year deal.
Forgetting Julio Lugo for a minute, you mentioned Kazmir, Heilman, Delmon Young and Lastings Milledge. I guess Young for Milledge would be a swap of talented degenerates, but Heilman for Kazmir makes no sense at all from the Rays standpoint. And after Heilman dogged it today he sure as hell didn't help his trade value. Julio Lugo would be a nice pickup, but his numbers are not all that different from José Valentin's, while his salary is almost 5 times as much. Why not wait until the offseason when he becomes a free agent instead of trading away anything of value for him now? How much of an impact would Julio Lugo make anyway? Granted, who knows what Valentin will do the rest of the way; he could very well tail off as the season wears on, but as of now second base is not the pressing need it was about a month ago. This team can score runs; it's the pitching staff that's been exposed, and I just don't think the Mets have anything that would pry away Kazmir from the Rays, much less the Rays actually entertain any offers for him.
It's Lastings,Pelfery and Heilman for either Kazmir and Lugo or Willis and Uggla.
Casey...u make some good points but common' do we really need to worry about 2 base? Milledge for Willis is the favorite among the blogs...but I just don't see Florida parting ways with him. I say they should just suck it up,grab Zito, pay the "most hated agent in sports", and reunite him with Peterson. Besides...come December ALL Mets fans will be screaming to sign him no matter the cost.
firedog98: All of your good points aside, Zito will not be traded this year. Why? The Oakland A's are in first place and are very hot right now. They are hitting and the reality is they have "barely" missed the playoffs the last two years. Beane wants this one as validation for his offseason rebuilding moves....new ownership wants this one so that they could help get "public funding" for a new stadium. I predict Zito will draw 19 million a year for 6 even seven years as a free-agent.
It will be Metmoney, not Georgie's ego that wins.
Zito is 25-23 over the last two years,10-7 this year.
Reasons to grag up Zito--A's manager Beane- LOVES Milledge...KNOWS he is going to lose Zito...combination of coming to the National league where no team has really seen him and with Peterson at his side seems to be a sure bet of getting us a title shot.
