Pelfrey Time
As I'm sure you're aware by now, Mike Pelfrey will make his major-league debut on Saturday. What are your expectations, Mets fans? How do you think he'll do? And how many of you will now buy tickets so you can see him in person? Talk amongst yourselves.

I think he will do ok! 5 innings if Willie is smart. If he gets into trouble though, take him out, don't leave him in there like Willie did with Solar the other night against the Stankees...
I hope he does great, but the jump to the big leagues is significant, and it is very rare for a pitcher to have an outstanding rookie year. Pelfrey has a 2.71 ERA in AA - here are some other notable minor league statistics from this year:
Soler: 2.75 (AA)
H. Bell: 0.92 (AAA)
R. Ring: 1.32 (AAA)
These three tanked in the bigs, and so the point is, be patient, and keep perspective . . .
Greatest post on the Mets "Talk Back". Some dope commented that the Mets shouldn't bring Pelfrey up, not because he was preaching patience like most sane people, but because Pelfrey might "stink the place out and (show) he is a bum and we can't use him in a trade for Willis or Zito". Never mind that (1) with the A's in first place they are less inclined to trade Zito, (2) that Zito becomes a free agent after this year, or (3) that the Marlins, after their recent streak, are also less inclined to get rid of Willis. The cluelessness of some people is really frightening sometimes.
Mets cheat sheet:
1) Have him start the game of the double-dip which is likely to feature more Marlins scrubs.
2) Hope he doesn't get squeezed.
3) Hope he has more poise than Soler (which shouldn't be hard).
4) DO NOT leave him in too much beyond 100 pitches.
