What's with the roll call?

mrmet.jpg

OK, I usually don't check in on this type of stuff, but maybe some of the Mets fans out there can help with this one. The Mets are on the field stretching right now for tonight's game at PNC Park, and their fans are behind the visitors dugout -- doing the Yankees' roll call. You know, clapping and chanting players' names until they respond with a wave or tip of the cap. Why? Why are Mets' fans copying something that originated in the bleachers of Yankee Stadium? Does that make any sense? Isn't that some sort of baseball blasphemy?

It doesn't happen at Fenway Park, and if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, than Mets fans should avoid the roll call of their bitter intracity rival. Don't you agree?

MET FANS FEED OFF THE ILLUSION THAT IF THEY ACT LIKE YANKEE FANS THEIR TEAM WILL RESPOND IN KIND.... YOU CAN'T EXPECT ANYTHING ORIGINAL WHEN YOU ONLY GET TO CHEER ONCE IN 20 YEARS.

Yankees are six years and counting between cheers and picked up most of their fans in '96 after their own 18 year
championship drought.

I have nothing but respect for
the Yankees organization, but most of their fans are ignorant front runners who will move on to something else
when the inevitable Yankee collapse comes within the next 2 to 3 years.

I didn't answer David Lennon
(who I remember from college as a Red Sox fan). I don't like imitating Yankee fans
and hope the Mets fans can be
more unique (even the soccer style chanting is better than
that roll call nonsense.)

11 CONSECUTIVE SEASONS THE YANKS MADE THE PLAYOFFS....BIGGEST DRAW IN BASEBALL AT HOME AND ON THE ROAD....MOST SUCCESSFUL REGIONAL NETWORK IN THE COUNTRY. SIT DOWN YOU JERK WITH EVERY BLOG YOU MAKE A FOOL OUT OF YOURSELF.

Mets fans started putting up "K's" whenever Doc Gooden took the mound. Soonafter, fans in every ball park started posting "K's" whenever a strikeout pitcher took the mound. This includes Yankees fans as well.

It's not a matter of Mets fans imitating Yankees fans; it's a matter of human nature: monkey see, monkey do.

Honest Abe:

TURN YOUR CAPS OFF.

CABABA ANOTHER MR. MET SUCK PUPPET.

Honest Ape:

Harry Carson and the Giants started the Gatorade bath when the Giants clinched back in the mid 1980s. Now the Gatorade bath is an NFL institution. The Eagles players doused their coach in Gatorade/water after winning NFC title.

Monkey see, monkey do.

This has nothing to do with me being another Mr. Met Suck Puppet.

Now I'll repost this statement in all caps so you can understand:

Wow. This using all caps makes me a cool fan commentator. I wonder if I'll get any chicks by using all caps?

Honest Abe:

By the way, that's a pretentious handle you have there.

What, did you take History 103 at some community college and learn that Abe Lincoln's nickname was "Honest Abe?" Why not call yourself the "Great Emancipator" while you're at it?

Now "Cabana," that's an original handle. It's another name for a lodge or small house. A shanty, if you will. I have a much cooler handle than you do.

"Honest Abe?" It's phony. Sounds like you think you're some one who "tells it like it is" or you think you "call 'em as I see 'em." Like you're a "pull-no-punches" kinda guy. Keeping it real and true, man.

Cabana? That's a cool name. It's a place of leisure where you can change out of your work clothes, put your bathing suit on and go swimming.

"Honest Abe?" You're like a fundamentalist thinking that you're armed with the truth. You're a shrill fanatic typing away, armed with the "caps lock" key in position so everyone will read your bromides.

But what are you being "honest" about-- baseball? It's a business. Sure, you can be passionate about it. But come on, soiling your Yankees underpants because Mets fans are doing the Roll Call?

I don't get bothered when I see K's hanging in Yankees Stadium. I'm proud that Yankee fans took a cool thing from Shea Stadium and brought it over to the Bronx. I don't crap my Giants underpants whenever I see the Eagles or 49ers dousing their coach in Gatorade.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Thurmon Munson would probably give you a wedgee and tell you to go root for Boston.

By the way, are you also caught up in the cola wars? Do you root for Coke or Pepsi and get your Yankees underoos tied in a bunch when you learn your favorite cola is lagging in sales behind your hated cola?

BUBBA CABANA IS THE GUY WHO HAD HIS WAY WITH YOU WHEN YOU DID TIME UPSTATE.FRANK D-MR MET-MT AND NOW CABANA ,WOW ANOTHER SUCK PUPPET. NOW GET BACK IN THE CLOSET BEFORE YOUR PAROLE OFFICER FINDS OUT.

So you were raped in prison, Honest Abe? That explains a lot.

Honest Abe:

The Braves made the playoffs 15 years in a row. So what. For the Yankees its the title or nothing, right? No title since 2000 and probably won't get to the WS again this year. TV deals and attendance mean nothing.

I like it that the Mets get swept and still have a better record than the Yankees who can't even split at home with a pathetic Red Sox team.

Better luck next year. Honest

That's not what Honest Abe said Cabana. I heard it effects your bowel movements, but your eye-sight as well?

CABANA/MT and all the other suck puppets you use. Not only does it effect your eye-sight but your brain as well...........To say for the Yankees it's the title or nothing and TV deals and attendance also means nothing shows not only a abject igorance of baseball but also a warped perception of reality. It cost money to make money, the Abreu deal is a prime example -Yankees got him, Mets didn't...........Oh yea, who did the Yankees beat in 2000 to win the WS you pathetic imbecile.

agreed, the roll call is bunk. and the night they played sweet caroline in the 8th i was beside myself.

MT-
Did you just make fun of the Yanks for losing three out of four to the Red Sox, when the Mets just got swept by the worst team in baseball?
It's good to see that your Mets couldn't win a big game against the Pirates. Good luck in the playoffs.

If you can't see that the Yankees are the consensus favorite's to win the World Series, then you don't follow baseball. The Mets will be the fifth best team in the playoffs, behind everyone in the AL.

Dr. Z:

That's very chivalrous of you defending Honest Abe. What, were you his little prison buddy, Romeo?

Getting back to the original topic, the one about Mets fans doing the "roll call, " all I said is Yankees fans do the "K Corner," a trend that was started by Mets fans during Dwight Gooden's run at Shea. I noticed "Honest Abe" (or the Great Emancipator) could only call me a "suck puppet" or some lame-assed comment.

So, as long as you're playing blog nanny, now it's your turn to scold Honest Abe.

By the way-- did you go to prison for smoking crack?

YoYoMa -- If Mariano is not back and healthy, this weekend
against a decimated Red Sox team a sign of things to come.
If the season ended today, Yankees draw the Twins. Only even money they get past them with Johan Santana pitching twice. Mets get the Dodgers
who have no lefties.

CABANA/MT: DR.Z IS RIGHT. TO MAKE A RIDICULOUS STATEMENT THAT NETWORK TV AND ATTENDANCE MEANS NOTHING SHOWS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE GAME. THE YANKS FOCUS ON THE NOW AND HAVE EXCELLENT RESOURCES GENERATED FROM WHAT YOU STATE MEANS NOTHING. THESE RESOURCES ARE USED TO OBTAIN AND DEVELOP GOOD PLAYERS WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO COMPETE EVERY YEAR.

RE: MR.MET,MT,FRANK D.CABANA----------Dr.Z and Honest Abe I'm sure I speak for the majority of Met Fans when I say this jerks silly inappropriate rants are not a accurate or true reflection of what we are about. In fact,he is the reason that I haven't participated in this blog in a long time.

Honest Abe:

I didn't say anything here about attendance.

So, where are we on the topic?

I'll give you two choices:

(1) Are you going to admit that the "K corner" was invented by Mets fans and is now common practice in ballparks-- including Yankees Stadium-- throughout the Major Leagues?

(2) Or are you going to keep using unfunny, lame-assed insults like "suck puppet" and keep evading the point I made a few days ago?

KC:

I don't really know what you're trying to say.

I read the topic-- about Mets fans imitating Yankees fans with the roll call. I made a salient point-- that the "K corner" started with Mets fans and Dwight Gooden and now it is commonplace in most ballparks, including Yankees Stadium.

I also asked "Honest Abe" to turn his caps off.

Honest Abe responded with an unfunny insult ("suck puppet") and I responded in kind. Honest Abe's next response--another banal attempt at insulting humor-- revealed his intimate knowledge of prison rape, so I made a logical inference.

Honest Abe's and "Dr. Z's" insults are below the sixth grade level, so they are not really anything to fret about. So feel free to participate in this blog-- don't let unfunny and witless nincompoops keep you from participating in this blog.

Whoops. Forgot to put my handle on that last post.

MT A/K/A CABANA .......YOUR POST ON 9/18 AT 12:35AM STATED TV DEALS AND ATTENDANCE MEAN NOTHING.YOUR LATEST ATTEMPT TO DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM MT ONLY UNDERSCORES WHAT KC JUST SAID ABOUT YOU.............F/Y/I-SUCK PUPPET MEANS USING AN ASSUMED NAME.

Cabana, are you in denial? What I'm trying to say is that you with your inane remarks are thr unfunny witless nincompoop that makes it impossible to participate.

Honest Abe:

If attendance meant anything the LA Dodgers (who draw over 3 million every year) would not be 18 years between WS. Resources helps but the Mets were always near the top in payroll.

Yankees have great resources but have been paying more and more to get less and less. The same mistake they made in the 80's. Awesome lineup, mediocre pitching ('98 Yankees #4 pitcher was El Duque; '06 Jared Wright).

KC (Honest Abe):

Not in denial at all. It's just that you're such a terrible writer, it's difficult to understand what you're saying.

Honest Abe:

Just because you post under other handles ("Dr. Z" and "KC") doesn't mean everyone else does. I'm not "MT."

So, about the Yankees doing the "K corner...."

Honest Abe:

Also, since you seem incapable of reading and responding (other than using lame-assed, grist mill insults), I'll repeat my prior post:

I'll give you two choices:

(1) Are you going to admit that the "K corner" was invented by Mets fans and is now common practice in ballparks-- including Yankees Stadium-- throughout the Major Leagues?

(2) Or are you going to keep using unfunny, lame-assed insults like "suck puppet" and keep evading the point I made a few days ago?

Tautology usually works with imbeciles.

Cabana what they are saying is that you are a idiot. Now stop the obsessing, take your meds and get ready for rehab.

Honest Abe and Dr Z must be GOOD friends!

KC, no one has a clue what you are talking about. It's best that yoy DON'T participate.

Wow.

If Dr. Z isn't "Honest Abe," then there's definately no shortage of morons posting here.

That said, and once again:

Honest Abe/KC/Dr. Z:

(1) Are you going to admit that the "K corner" was invented by Mets fans and is now common practice in ballparks-- including Yankees Stadium-- throughout the Major Leagues?

(2) Or are you going to keep using unfunny, lame-assed insults like "suck puppet" and keep evading the point I made a few days ago?

My initial point was, "Who cares if Mets fans are doing the 'roll call'?" Yankees fans used the K corner.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Sigh.

Okay-- I'll throw in a "suck puppet" for the mentally deficient who, for some strange reason, do not post on the Yankee blog but post here on the Mets blog.

Cababa-- you're wasting your time with honest abe and the rest. they are obviously idiots and can't understand a simple point.

Monkey Shine--

There is no law that prohibits miscreants from posting on blogs--Honest Abe, Dr. Z, and KC are perfectly legal.

What "Honest Abe" and his little buddies (or different manifestations of Honest Abe's psyche) post here can be filed under logical fallacy.

Honest Abe ranted about Mets fans imitating Yankees fans doing the roll call. Honest Abe's assertion was that Mets fans thought they would bring about the same success as the Yankees by imitating Yankees fans. This is a logical fallacy.

I entered the discussion by saying that it was Mets fans who invented the "K Corner" and Yankees fans, as well as other fans, imitated that "fan behavior."

Following his own logic, Honest Abe would have to admit that the Yankees won all those world series in the mid- to late-1990s because their fans imitated Mets fans and used the "K corner." Honest Abe, as foolish as he may be, cannot admit to such a thing because he knows it is false.

Since reasonable men admit when they are wrong and move on, it is safe to conclude that the person using the "Honest Abe" handle is not reasonable. Furthermore, Honest Abe has proven that he is incapable of any reason whatsoever. All that he is capable of is making ad hominem attacks.

I have plenty of time to waste, so I don't mind. I'm here to help people like Honest Abe. I feel sorry for them.

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah, Oh the Mets won the Division guys, Blah Blah, Blah, Sorry to disturb you, Blah Blah Blah..............there going to the post season, Oh yeah, Blah Blah Blah.

Cabana if you have plenty of time to waste do it someplace else or better yet get a job. Maybe that's why your full of negative emotions-you can't get a woman or a job. At any rate, now that the playoffs are here, give us Met fans a break and modify your angry rants or better yet pull the plug and take your suck puppets for a nice walk in the park.

Dr. Z:

Wow. You have demonstrated high school level projection here. I don't have any women or job problems-- I'm pretty well set as far as those areas are concerned.

Compounding your evident problems is that you seemingly have an obvious reading comprehension problem.

If you're a Mets fan, then why are you supporting "Honest Abe?" Here's what "Honest Abe" wrote at the begining of this discussion:

"MET FANS FEED OFF THE ILLUSION THAT IF THEY ACT LIKE YANKEE FANS THEIR TEAM WILL RESPOND IN KIND.... YOU CAN'T EXPECT ANYTHING ORIGINAL WHEN YOU ONLY GET TO CHEER ONCE IN 20 YEARS."

All I did was point out that Mets fans started the K corner, which Yankees fans also do.

Honest Abe offered the "negative emotions" and so on (I enjoyed your Oprah style rant, by the way).

You seem to have a lot of personal problems that you are projecting onto others. You might want to try one of those on-line dating services or join a church group or something. You can thank me later for this wonderful advice.

it seems you were right, cabana. between honest abe and dr. z, there is no shortage of morons posting on the web. i wonder why neither of them will even address the substance of what you have said and both seem intent on making personal attacks. fools. dr. z has shown himself to be a bigger fool than even honest abe. that's takes talent.

There is an art to being blissfully stupid; "Dr. Z," "Honest Abe," and "KC" are examples of euphoric artists.

THE "K CORNER" STARTED BY CALIFORNIA FANS IN 1973 WHEN NOLAN RYAN WAS PITCHING FOR THE ANGELS.

So, "JAKE"-- Nolan Ryan was called "Dr. K" before Dwight Gooden?

Keep trying, "JAKE."

Even if that's true, let's go back to Honest Abe's silly post that started this "discussion:"

MET FANS FEED OFF THE ILLUSION THAT IF THEY ACT LIKE YANKEE FANS THEIR TEAM WILL RESPOND IN KIND.... YOU CAN'T EXPECT ANYTHING ORIGINAL WHEN YOU ONLY GET TO CHEER ONCE IN 20 YEARS.

So, when Mets fans started the "K corner," they were trying to act like Angels fans so their team would respond in kind? And that's why the Mets won the 1986 World Series? Following Abe's logic, this can't be. The Angels had no post-season success.

In fact, "JAKE'S" statement about Nolan Ryan, which is not true, only proves my point (if it were true): monkey see, monkey do. So what if fans in one part start a trend that spreads across the league? People go to baseball games to have fun. So what if they're doing the "K corner" or the "roll call." It's fans having fun.

I wonder why "JAKE" or "Dr. Z" or "HONEST ABE" just can't say, "Okay. Good point. Let's move on."

NO,NOLAN RYAN WAS NOT THE ORGINAL DR.K------LARRY KEON WAS CALLED DR.K BEFORE DWIGHT GOODEN YOU CRAZY WHACK JOB-----GOOD TRY CABANA OOPS I MEAN GOOD POINT.

"JAKE", Honest Abe, Dr. Z., etc....

Nolan Ryan, Larry Keon... what's next, Joe Rockhead from the Flintstones?

(1) Are you going to admit that the "K corner" was invented by Mets fans and is now common practice in ballparks-- including Yankees Stadium-- throughout the Major Leagues?

(2) Or are you going to keep using unfunny, lame-assed insults like "suck puppet" and keep evading the point I made a few days ago?

I REPEAT, LARRY KEON WAS THE FIRST "DR. K " AND CALIFORNIA FANS STARTED THE "K CORNER" WHEN NOLAN RYAN WAS PITCHING FOR THE ANGELS. WHAT THE MATTER FRANK D,MR.MET,MT,MONKEY SHINE AND CABANA YOU COULD NOT FIND LARRY KEON IN YOUR SPORTS ALMANAC ? NOW STOP WITH THE PROJECTING,YOUR THE ONE WHO IS DOING THE EVADING YOU WHACK JOB.

Even if that's true, let's go back to Honest Abe's silly post that started this "discussion:"

JAKE DOESN'T NEED A SPORTS ALMANAC,
JUST A GOOD PRESCRIPTION OF PROZAC.
YOU TALK OF LARRY KEON,
LIKE YOU WORSHIPED THE FONZ
ALONG WITH RALPH THE MOUTH AND POTSY.

ANOTHER "SOCK pUPPET" BY CABANA TO TRY AND WEASEL OUT OF ANOTHER TOPIC YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. STILL DOES NOT KNOW LARRY KEON THE ORGINAL "DR.K" STOP OBSESSING YOU WHACK JOB.

LARRY KEON IS A BEER VENDOR AT SHEA,
GET OVER YOURSELF.
NEXT TIME YOU ARE AT THE GAME
GET HIS PHONE NUMBER
SO YOU CAN CALL HIM LATER.
DUDE.

WOW LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY FINALLY WROTE YOU BACK
AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.
THE MAIL MUST BE SLOW FROM MILWAUKEE.
TOO BAD THEY NEVER HEARD OF
LARRY KEON EITHER.
THE SYMBOL OF "K" IS USED IN SCORECARD KEEPING.
TELL LENNY AND SQIUGY

BUNS MUST BE REALLY TIGHT FOR CABANA,NOW HIS S*CK PUPPET IS ANONYMOUS.YOU STILL DO NOT KNOW WHO LARRY KEON IS SO KEEP ON S*CKING YOU WHACK JOB.

Dr. K, Honest Abe, etc...:

Even if that's true, let's go back to Honest Abe's silly post that started this "discussion:"
