It only hurts when I pitch

bullseye.jpgSpring training can't get over fast enough for Oliver Perez. The Mets lefthander was drilled by a batted ball again tonight -- for the third time in as many games -- when the Nationals' Dmitri Young smacked a grounder off his left hip in the sixth inning. Perez scooped up the ball and threw him out, but manager Willie Randolph still trotted over to check on him. Perez threw one warmup pitch and stayed in the game.

In his two previous outings, Perez was nailed on the right foot and the back of this right thigh, but still continued to pitch. His line tonight against the Nats: 5 2/3 innings, nine hits, five runs, four earned, two walks and five strikeouts.

David, look for Oliver Perez to win 20 games this year....regaining his form from Pittsburgh...stranger things have happened....could be our next Tom Seaver!

Perhaps Omar and Willy want to talk about the old days with Alou, Easley and Green, all of whom are hitting? under 200. What other reason for adding age.Huff, a younger, versatile player could have been signed as a free agent. Instead the Mets signed the versatile less-talented David Newhan.Hitting, not pitching, cost the Mets at the end. And they haven't improved that yet.

I believe Aubrey Huff will be the everyday first baseman and DH for the Orioles. They needed his bat, they were willing to pay and Huff can be a starter. Although I like Huff's bat and i respect what he did last year after going to the Astros....I just don't see a fit for him here with the Mets. Unless Delgado was injured or something. I think if you put Aubrey Huff in the outfield it would a real disaster. He is like a statue. He would make Lastings Milledge look like an F-16.

Mr. Met: I will take 13 wins from Oliver Perez.
Along with 200 strikeouts.
I also would take a combined 22 wins from both Pelfry and Perez. That would line up the rotation perfectly. It would be indicative of good health and a measure of consistency from those two. :)
