Took a morning stroll to the local Starbucks and was overwhelmed by the sea of red already washing over the streets of downtown St. Louis with the first pitch still nine hours away. There was a pep rally underway, and it looked like the bars were just starting to open their doors. Too bad it's not a day game because it is a spectacular morning here. Not a cloud in the sky and temps in the low 70s.
Here's a little roster housekeeping from the Mets for those scanning the transaction wire:
ROSTER MOVES: New York made the following roster moves prior to tonight’s game…Optioned righthanded pitcher Mike Pelfrey to St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League, placed righthanded pitcher Pedro Martinez on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to March 23rd while he recovers from right rotator cuff surgery, placed righthanded pitcher Juan Padilla on 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to March 23rd, while he recovers from medial collateral surgery of his right elbow, placed righthanded pitcher Duaner Sanchez on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to March 23rd, with a hairline fracture of the coracoid bone in his right shoulder, placed lefthanded pitcher Dave Williams on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to March 23rd, while he recovers from neck disc herniation surgery…New York also placed righthanded pitcher Guillermo Mota on the Restricted List.

Tonight kicks off what promised to be one of the most disappointing seasons in Mets history, and that is saying a lot. As a Mets fan for many many years I have seen the look of this team in the past, lots of aging players coupled with one hit wonders returning off career years adds up to a crash and burn result.
Only the two legit stars of Reyes and Wright will keep this team around .500, but they will fail to make the playoffs.
No way Chavez, Valentin, Loduca repeat their career years, and who exactly is in the bullpen to replace Duaner, Bradford, and Mota?
Mets only won last year due to an incredible start on the backs of Pedro, Nady, Duaner and Valentin, then coasted along at .500 the rest of the way and disappointed in the playoffs.
Omar rested on his laurels, making no attempt to improve the team, the disappointment begins tonight.
Is it July already. Hey Nostrdamus can you pick some power ball number for me. You sir are a very ignorant person, and should keep you mouth shut. To say what you said is just plain silly. How many teams have 2 star players like the Mets have in Wright and Reyes. Did you forget about Carlos^2 (that is squared for you stupid). That makes 4. What makes you think that Galvine and Orlando cannot keep the fort until Petie comes back. Maine pitched very well last year and Pelfry is a wild card. Maybe Opey pitches poorly, but there is more than enough on the farm to replace a number 4 starter. Truth is that the starting pitching was not that good last year and we still won 97 games, and it can only get better. I see a 95-97 win season again and a World Series berth. From there it is anyones guess.
Go sit on your Pujol's bat and rotate...ass!
Yup, the Mets disappointed on Opening Day and Beltran is not a "Legitimate star". Let's throw in Glavine and the bullpen sucks too.
Uh Wayne, go to the Yankees blog and know nothing over there. You'll fit in better.
