Willie scratched from All-Star Game

The balloting won't be complete until next week, but the Mets will be missing one notable name from the All-Star Game. Manager Willie Randolph pulled himself off the National League's coaching staff today because of shoulder surgery he plans to have during the break. Randolph was invited by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa to next month's game in San Francisco, but apparently the procedure couldn't wait.

"Just from wear-and-tear," Randolph said. "Got to get it cleaned out."

As for tonight, Damion Easley takes over for Jose Valentin at second base, but Randolph said it had nothing to do with Valentin's slippery fingers in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Cards. When someone asked if Valentin's knee condition affected him that night, Randolph replied, "He doesn't have any braces on his hands. He had the ball in his hands. He just dropped it."

I hate to diss Johnette Howard. But maybe a little constructive criticism could possibly help out.
Her article "Why don't the Mets get a bat?"
Hello?
Johnette have you been watching any of the games?
Do you think you are the "pied piper of knowledge" that pointing out something so obvious would be news? An interesting read?
My goodness.
It's not really the pollyanna approach of the revelation, it's this:
Why not offer a solution Johnette? A possible player you think Omar should add?
Show a little contract knowledge, show who's up for free agency? Or who stands to make an arbitration windfall next year? Someone the Mets can deal for?
Something, anything other
'Hey the mets should think about getting a hitter'!

Part II of Series:
Mets should try scoring more runs than the opponents.

Part III:
The Met pitching staff should try not to let anyone hit the ball.

PART IV: Mets should try to be in first place when the season ends.

PART V: Or, um the Mets can get the wild card too.

PART VI: Whole wheat is healthier for you than plain white bread.

The Cards' Reyes is 0-10 because his flatbill hat is gay.

The Mets have gotten hitters in the past. They got Beltran. They got Delgado. They got LoDuca, Alou, Green and Valentine. (OK, they're all old) And how many hits did they get against a poor pitcher last night? 2 and the big one was from Wright, who they didn't trade for. This team was built for hitting, but very often does not hit. Kind of like the Yankees.

The right handed batter the Mets need right now to fill in for Alou is the one they traded last year ........Xavier Nady.

The right handed batter the Mets need right now to fill in for Alou is the one they traded last year ........Xavier Nady, who happened to hit his 13th homer last night. (just like Wright) Pittsburgh probably needs to keep him to have something to cheer about.

Xavier Nady had two jacks last night.
Roberto Hernandez was released and is now available.
It would funny if the Mets ended up getting both for 2007. I agree that Xavier Nady would be the perfect Met if he was to return.

Bring back Nady! Trade Green and a prospect.

Wow! You mean the Mets could get Hernandez for a third time? I wonder what the record is for bringing back a player?
