Carlos Beltran apparently did not suffer a bruised knee Friday as the Mets first announced during the game. Instead, Beltran aggravated a preexisting condition -- tendinitis in both knees -- and I think that's much worse.
“I felt pain in both knees,” Beltran said. “When I tried to stand up, I had no strength. My legs were shutting down."
The Mets centerfielder awkwardly spun around on the rubberized warning track trying to catch Jeremy Hermida's long double in the fifth inning and ultimately fell to the ground. As Beltran walked off the field, he moved stiffly, mostly favoring his left leg. But after the Mets' 9-6 victory over the Marlins, Beltran seemed hopeful that he would be in today's lineup, if the anti-inflammatory medication he took late Friday works its magic.
Perhaps the one thing in Beltran's favor is that he's been used to playing with leg problems since he signed with the Mets.

That rubberized warning track has always been an injury waiting to happen.
Unfortunately Beltran has been an injury waiting to happen since he arrived in Flushing. He should sit a couple days. An injured Beltran is an average player at best.
Sit for a couple days !!?!That's easy for you to say. Who's bat is going to make up for his in the Met lineup? In case you haven't noticed, the Mets need to score 8-10 runs per game to even expect to win. Beltran's bat will be sorely missed, if he is out for any significant amount of time. I'd go so far as to say this injury could sink the season. Let's hope not.
I forgot to mention Millegde's impending suspension. The OF offense AND defense gets a little thin when you take BOTH those guys away. This could be real trouble for the Mets and it could not have hapenned at a worse time.
Beltran WILL play today!
Check out the starting lineup....let's stay positive....things will turn out our way!
MJ, it is well established that Beltran is a .260 hitter with little pop and range when his legs are banged up. That is fact. We can get better numbers from Gomez or Endy and rest him. He is a tough guy, took the field with all sorts of bones busted in his face. But the performance lacks. So why push?
It was good to see Beltran back in the lineup today. Off the topic a bit, is there some reason all warning tracks can't be ACTUAL REAL DIRT? Way too high-maintenance, I suppose.
