Morning in the Bronx

Still waiting for the Mets to arrive via police escort from Flushing. I remember back in 2000, when this whole day-night, two-stadium doubleheader was considered a once-in-a-lifetime event. Now we're about to begin our third and the buzz seems a little subdued. Maybe the Andy Phillips-revenge storyline will spice things up. Maybe not.

Anyway, while you're waiting for Dan Giese's first pitch, check out today's coverage in Newsday, with another Mets Insider from yours truly. Yes, despite the firing of Willie Randolph, Omar Minaya remains on solid ground. The Wilpons aren't ready to blow up the entire operation, and Minaya still has plenty of time left to salvage the season.

Also, Ryan Church took a step closer to his return last night with his Cyclones debut. Note to Church: Stay off the rides and away from the hot dogs.
