Adam Ronis here to host for tonight's game. The Mets took three of four from the first-place Phillies to pull within 2 1/2 games. Are the Mets ready to make a big run? They are over .500 for the first time since June 5 and the schedule sets up nicely. The Mets have no west coast trips remaining and host the Giants and Rockies before the All-Star break. The Mets offense has been very inconsistent, but was very good the last three games, including a season-high 17 hits in a 10-9 win over the Phillies yesterday. Will it continues at Shea Stadium? The Mets are hitting .258 at home. The Mets took two of three at San Francisco in early June.
On Tim Lincecum: The Giants righthander can make a case for starting the All-Star game, but with another start on Sunday, that likely won't happen. He is 10-1 with a 2.49 ERA and since his only loss in April, he is 6-0 with a 2.84 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings. He leads the NL with 122 strikeouts. He faced the Mets last season and took a no-decision. He allowed three hits and three runs with eight strikeouts in seven innings.
On Mike Pelfrey: Is it possible that the Mets could play every game on the road? Mike Pelfrey hasn't won at Shea since April 15 despite a 3.55 ERA in his last six home starts. He is 6-6 with a 4.23 ERA and has won his last four starts. He got plenty of run support in his last start, an 11-1 win at St. Louis. He went seven innings and allowed six hits, one run, walked two and struck out six.
