Gameday Live 93: Mets at Nationals

Look on the bright side Met fans, at least you get to play the Nationals 18 times a year. With last night's 6-2 victory, the Mets improved to 8-2 against baseball's worst team. They'll look to make it a winning streak tonight when Oliver Perez (2-2, 7.99) takes on Long Beach's own John Lannan (6-7, 3.64). You'd think the Nationals are the perfect team for Ollie P to rediscover his form against. But take a look at the lineups, do the Mets even have an advantage over the Nats?

Mets:
A. Pagan cf .320, 0, 5
L. Castillo 2b .291, 0, 20
D. Wright 3b .318 , 5, 44
J. Francoeur rf .258, 6, 42
F. Tatis lf 0 .246, 4, 20
D. Murphy 1b .242, 5, 31
O. Santos c .258, 4, 25
A. Cora ss .245, 0 ,12
O. Perez p .300

Washington:
N. Morgan cf .289 AVG, 2 HR, 32 RBI
C. Guzman ss .297 , 3 ,24
R. Zimmerman 3b .282, 15, 56
A. Dunn 1b .265, 24, 54
J. Willingham lf .284, 12, 26
A. Kearns rf .201, 3, 16
A. Gonzalez 2b .315, 1, 23
W. Nieves c .267, 0, 13
J. Lannan p .125

Definitely more power on the Nationals side and probably also a lineup with more potential. Can the Mets be considered the favorites today? What do you guys think?

Well the great John Lannan from Long Beach with his 88 mph fastball shut down the Mets. So what else is new? Talk about the injuries all you want but their replacements are supposedly MAJOR LEAGUE BALLPLAYERS and they look PATHETIC!!!!!
I was a lefty pitcher in high school over 20 years ago. Give me a crack at this brutal lineup......This whole organization will always be second class as long as the Wilpons are in charge. I just hope the fans respond by turning CitiField into a mausoleum come August and September.

Yankees just took over first place, we lose to the Nationals, I am so constipated, my butt cheeks are staring to turn me on, really tight.

Boisclair - I was thinking the same thing...or better how about pitting a good Connie Mack team against Ollie Perez...? You have no shot at winning at any level if your starter gives up 6 walks...

So another injury where we played short for days before
player will be placed on DL. Are we being unrealistic, does
this just seem like it happens to the Mets with every injury
because we are only focused on them? Does this happen to all
teams? And with all the injuries, a triple A line-up, there is still
no excuse for Pelfrey, Ollie, Livian, guys who had to step
up when we really needed them. Sorry, but giving 5 innings(if that),
is not enough on this team. As stated by Gerry above, 6 walks
just won't cut it. I have to laugh as I heard Jerry M, and Gary last
night say Mets had to be encoraged by Ollie's performance in
Atlanta. Walking 4 and constantly being behind hitters is not
encoraging to me. Is this what Mets are paying 12 million for??
To bring this guy back, with a raise no less, was a joke. My rant
for the day is over. And for anyone offended by the use of the
word 'we', I think as a 38 year fan, with one title, millions of
heartbreaks, and the Yankees spending money like there is
no economic trouble, I think I am entitled.

Do you think the Nationals might trade Strasburg for Putz, prospect and future pick, with a trade and sign deal on both??

warned u all for three years now game ONE!

Where are the Omar supporters that told me to shut up? Where is MT? Where is the MOUTH thAt went by "Wright NYs only drug free 3B" ?????????

Omar is a Joke and the Wilpons are the punchline

Balsley teams can't trade draft picks or players not signed that were drafted.

David, if this report regarding Bernazard challenging Binghamton Mets to a fight is true, and all indications are that it is, Bernazard should be fired. That's a serious matter, very unbecoming a team executive and cannot be tolerated.

The report indicated that Bernazard first stripped off his shirt before challenging the team. According to the report, Minaya's reaction was as follows:

"I know he spoke to them in a stern voice. But as far as what he was wearing, what kind of shoes he was wearing, I don't know anything about that."

At a minimum, in addition to Bernazard being fired, Minaya must at least be reprimanded for his response. He was either making light of the incident or blowing it off, and either of those reactions is inappropriate.

The Mets are becoming laughingstocks. You may want to follow this one up, Dave.

Dave, A question for you. Do you have everyday contact with
the players? Just curious as to how they react being called
'heartless'. While few on here would disagree, it would be
like being called chokers, a stab at an athlete either way. Also,
a couple of your posts in the last few weeks have been very
negative(but not necessarily untrue). We are all VERY
frustrated, and when it appears nothing is been done, it makes
it twice as bad. Losing, especially when hopes were high coming
in(I think SI predicted the Mets in the WS), is painful.
Remember, the 92-94 Mets with Coleman, Bonilla and company
that turned out to be a joke, bad things started to happen.
The 'bleaching', firecrackers, etc... This team needs an overhaul
and more than that needs a Wilpon or two, to step up and
say, 'This will not be tollerated'. Injuries aside, right now this
organization is being run into the ground. A laughing stock as
said above...
And FO, it is not that people did not agree with you per se, it
is your extremely negative attitude. You have to be somewhat
optomistic as a fan. Hell, I rooted for Rich Kotite and rooted for
him to suceed till near the end. You have not posted on the Jets
site since Mangini was axed, since right now their is optomism,
but if they start 1-3, you will be FireRex.
Everyone knows, Omar has made mistakes, way too many to
mention on here. We have all talked about the same things
for the last 2 months, and it is not just the injuries. They appear
clueless at times. It is hard to believe less than 3 weeks ago,
Mets went into Philly just a game out. Players have to perform.
They have not. Now changes have to be made.

Does anyone have an update on Bernazard...?
Omar apparently held a news conference at 4:45PM but I had to get out of the car,,,

FO: I'm still here. Staggered and beaten, but still here. I don't even you picked this debacle. I did poist earlier that if Beltran and Reyes, didn't come back soon after the break, all bets were off. My only source of hope now is the 2007 Colorado Rockies.
