Getting Offensive

To say the Sox have upgraded their offense this year is the understatement of all time.  They are really letting it rip right now as we head into the All-Star break.

We were talking last night about the fact that the home runs are key; not just solo shots that don't matter. Jim Thome is a great example of a guy who knows the situation and thrives on it.  It's no accident the Sox have 7 grand slams to lead the majors right now.  Their hitters bear down and are performing at the highest level at the right time.

Think about some of the other numbers.  The Sox lead the league in homers, runs, and are second in batting average.  Yet, at the same time they ALSO lead the league in sac bunts and sac flies, plus they have grounded into the 5th-fewest double plays in the league.  It's an offense that is really hitting on all cylinders.

DJ,

Without a doubt the Sox are the best offense in baseball. Aside from Boston I think they have the most feared lineup in the majors. They're one big offensive juggernaught and I'd be scared to face them if I were a pitcher. Jimmy has been unbelieveable as the DH. He pounds the ball all over the field. Right now, the Sox are the best offensive club in the big leagues, end of story.

It's embarrassing to listen to Hawk whine about balls and strikes the whole game. I can not believe a commentator is going to sit there and fuss about his team not getting any calls. How about actually giving credit to another team? I guess that would be out of line. I thought he has watched baseball before, but I guess I am wrong. No umpire is perfect and they don't pull for a certain team. If you are going to whine like a baby, at least try to look at the calls for each team, they tend to even out over the game. But I guess he is such a big homer, it is impossible for him to think of such nonsense. It's good you have enthusiasm for the home team, but let's stop with the "our guys can't get a call" routine. Let's just look at last year's playoffs, anyway. That's enough calls in your favor to make up for this so-called "unfairness." Give me a break.
