Just heard Ken Harrelson make a ridiculous comment about commissioner Bud Selig: that he deserves a statue for all the GOOD he's done for the sport!? (W.Sox-R.Sox telecast, Sun., 8/26/07) You've gotta be kidding! Selig has overseen the most corrupt era the game has known! He symbolizes greed, steroids and outrageous salaries--even cowardice! Growing up, 6 of us in my family could afford major league games--and athletes were real people back then. $150 million-dollar salaries put an end to my family attending games today. (And many others--how's MLB doin' w/its urban outreach?) Steinbrenner & Selig and their ilk have greatly altered, if not ruined the game. And as far as courage--from the time Selig didn't have guts to discipline R. Alomar for spitting (forget whatever comments were supposedly made--there"s NO confirmation either way, and even if there were negative words, Alomar deserved a major fine, not a kiss from the commissioner's office) millions lost respect for him. Hawk, you were one of my idols back in the day! Was it the summer heat? Or are you trying for luxury seats in October? What possessed you to give so much praise for what many consider the worst commish ever?
