Game Notes For Monday @ Baltimore

* These teams are scheduled to resume a suspended contest before opening their scheduled three-game set. The first game was suspended on April 28 after the 11th inning with the score tied, 3-3, because of rain, and even though the game will be played in Baltimore, the White Sox are the home team for the remaining innings. * The Orioles have dropped six of their last seven home games. * The White Sox have won nine of their last 12 games. * Chris Waters is 1-0 with a 10.00 ERA in two home starts this season compared to 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in two road starts. Waters will be facing the White Sox for the first time in his career. * Clayton Richard will be making the fifth start of his career and will be seeking his second career win. * Aubrey Huff is hitting .500 (6-for-12) with two doubles, one homer and four RBI over his last three games. * Melvin Mora has recorded an ML-best 31 RBI this month.

Game Notes For Friday vs. Rays

* Tampa Bay is 2-7 against the White Sox in Chicago since the beginning of the 2005 season. The Rays’ pitchers have a combined 6.42 ERA in those nine games. * Edwin Jackson is 3-1 with a 2.15 ERA in his last five road starts. * Carlos Pena has recorded 11 home runs since the All-Star break, the second most in the majors (Carlos Quentin – 13). * The White Sox are 8-1 in their last nine games, hitting .395 with runners in scoring position during the nine-game stretch. * John Danks is 3-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts against the Rays. Tampa Bay is hitting only .203 against Danks. * Carlos Quentin’s 35 home runs are the third most in franchise history by a player in their first season with the team.

This is the time of year when talk turns to front-runners for the annual baseball awards. It's no surprise that Carlos Quentin is the Most Valuable Player in the American League in my mind, no doubt about it.

Winning is an essential part of the equation for the MVP. If you take Tampa, Boston, Minnesota, and the Angels, there's no question that Carlos has done more for our team than anybody on those clubs.

Game Notes For Tuesday vs. Mariners

*The Mariners are hitting .at a 315 clip in August, their second best month in team history. *Seattle's 1-3 hitters are batting .305 for the year, 1-6 is at only .244. *The Sox and Mariners rank 2-3 in most at-bats between HRs allowed in baseball this year. *Orlando Cabera has the most hits (14) allowed to a player by Felix Rodriguez. *Yuniesky Betancourt and AJ Pierzynski are 1-2 in the American League in fewest pitches seen per at-bat. *Alexei Ramirez hits .375 in White Sox wins and .253 in losses.

Game Notes For Monday vs. M's

* Seattle has won eight of the last 11 meetings between these teams, however, Chicago has won two of the three matchups this season. * The White Sox have won five of their last six games, holding their opponents to two runs or less in each of those five wins in that span. * The Mariners have just one win in their last eight games. * Seattle has lost six of Jarrod Washburn’s last seven starts, including three in a row. * Mark Buehrle is 7-3 with a 2.72 ERA in 12 home starts this season compared to 3-7 with a 4.86 ERA in 13 road starts. Buehrle is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in his last two starts overall. * Raul Ibanez is hitting .433 with eight doubles, one triple, four homers and 20 RBI over his last 14 games. * Carlos Quentin is hitting .583 (7-for-12) with one double, two homers and five RBI over his last four games. Quentin is 6-for-13 (.462) with one double, a homer and four RBI in three games against the Mariners this season.

* The A’s have dominated the White Sox on the west coast since 2001 with a 27-6 record. * Carlos Quentin (32 HR & 20 HBP) leads the American League in home runs by four (Jermaine Dye, CWS 28 & Josh Hamilton, Tex 28) and in hit by pitch by four (Jason Giambi, NYY 16). * Gavin Floyd has been tough to pick up at night in 2008 where opponents are hitting just .211. *After having the worst record against left-handed starters in 2007, the White Sox are 23-14 vs. southpaw starters this year.

Game Notes For Friday Opener Vs. Carmines

* The Red Sox and White Sox are meeting for the first time in 2008. In 2007, the White Sox won the first contest between the teams, but the Red Sox won the last seven. * Boston has won five of its last six road games since dropping five in a row and 10 out of 12. * Chicago has been a streaky team at home, having not posted a W-L-W or L-W-L at U.S. Cellular Field since April. * The White Sox have scored 10 or more runs at home 10 times this season, tied with the Cubs for most times scoring in double digits at home. * Kevin Youkilis has a 12-game hitting streak. He is batting .352 (19-for-54) with four doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs scored over the streak. * Jim Thome is riding a seven-game hitting streak. Over the streak, Thome is batting .321 (9-for-28) with three home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored.

* The Royals are 4-8 at home against the White Sox since the beginning of the 2007 season. * Luke Hochevar’s ERA is 2.75 during the first two innings this year, but it jumps up to 6.75 after the second inning. * Mike Aviles is hitting .478 (11-for-23) with two home runs and three RBI during his current five-game hitting streak. * With the trade for Ken Griffey Jr., the White Sox now have nine players on their roster who have recorded 20+ home runs in a season at least once in their career. * Carlos Quentin’s nine home runs since July 1 are tied with Torii Hunter for the most in the AL since the beginning of July. * Javier Vazquez is 0-4 with a 6.54 ERA over his last five road starts. Opponents are hitting .321 against Vazquez during the five-game stretch.
