Game Notes For Tuesday @ Minnesota

* While these teams have split 20 games since the start of 2007 (10-10), Minnesota holds a 127-100 edge in runs scored, averaging over six runs per game against the Sox. * The Twins have been shut out four times so far this season – tied (Tigers, Nationals) for the most in the majors. * After allowing 17 runs in their first two road games this season, the White Sox pitching staff has an ERA of just 2.24 away from home since April 3 – the lowest in the American League (Arizona 2.14). * Joe Mauer’s current 10-game hit streak is tied for the second longest of his career, trailing only an 11-game streak in May/June of 2006. * Carlos Quentin is the only American League player this season to have at least 20 runs and 20 RBI. * Jim Thome has hit six home runs in his last eight games against the Twins. *The Yankees’ offense has come to life in the last three games (all wins), totaling 22 runs, 33 hits and 12 doubles. *The White Sox are tied with the Twins for the MLB lead in batting average with runners in scoring position at .312. *The White Sox lead all teams with a phenomenal 28-8 advantage in homers vs. their opponents. *Joe Crede leads all MLB 3rd basemen with 20 RBI. *In the Yankees 11 wins, Johnny Damon is hitting .349. In their 10 losses, he is hitting .125.

Game Notes For Tuesday vs. Bronx Bombers

* The Yankees won six of 10 games from the White Sox in last year’s season series. New York averaged 9.2 runs while winning five of the last six meetings. * The Yankees’ 7-1 victory over Baltimore on Sunday snapped a three-game losing streak. * The White Sox, who have played the second-fewest home games in the American League (seven), begin a seven-game homestand on Tuesday. * Through his first 45 pitches of games, Chien-Ming Wang has permitted a puny .122 average to opposing hitters. But from then on, they’ve generated a .306 mark. * After going 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in his first two career starts against the Yankees, Jose Contreras is 0-4 with a 6.08 ERA in his last four outings versus New York. * Bobby Abreu’s .408 career average against the White Sox is the highest mark by any player versus Chicago since 1956 (minimum 60 PA). His on-base percentage (.523) and slugging percentage (.775) against the Sox also rank first over that span. * Over his last five games, Jim Thome has batted .389 with three homers and nine RBI.

* The Orioles won their final three games against the White Sox last season – marking their longest win streak against the Sox since also winning three straight from June 18-20, 1999. * The White Sox have not committed a single error over their last seven games. * The White Sox have stolen just one base this season – the fewest in the majors. * Melvin Mora, who has hit three home runs this season, hit just one over his final 46 games last season. * The Orioles are one of three teams (Giants, Rays) to have multiple players (Markakis, Roberts) with at least four steals this season. * Joe Crede, who leads the majors with 16 RBI, needed 36 games last season to reach 16 RBI. * Amazingly, Gavin Floyd has already doubled his victory total from a year ago, despite the fact that he made 10 starts and 16 appearances in 2007.

* The Athletics won five of the nine meetings between these teams last season and will be looking to extend their winning streak against the White Sox to five in a row. * Oakland’s five-game winning streak was snapped in its loss to Cleveland on Sunday. * Chicago has posted shutouts in each of its last two games, including an 11-0 win over the Tigers yesterday. * Mark Buehrle is 1-4 with a 4.13 ERA in his last eight starts against Oakland. * Greg Smith will be making his second career start. Smith pitched six innings in his ML debut last Wednesday, allowing three runs and two hits in six innings as Oakland beat Toronto 6-3. * Nick Swisher will be facing his former team for the first time. Swisher spent four seasons with Oakland before being traded to the White Sox in January.

Game Notes For Friday vs. Tigers

* Since the beginning of the 2005 season, no MLB team has a better record against the Tigers than the White Sox (40-19). * The Tigers have scored 13 runs over their last two games, after scoring just 15 runs over their first seven games this season. * The White Sox, who are missing Jerry Owens from their lineup, have stolen just one base this season – second fewest in the majors (Yankees 0). * A.J. Pierzynski both scored and drove in five runs in two games against the Tigers last week. * Going back to last season, Todd Jones has allowed just one run over his last 10 appearances. *The Sox and Twins were at different ends of the spectrum last year with the home run ball. Game Notes For Opening Day

* These teams split their 18 head-to-head meetings last season nine apiece, highlighted by a July 6th double-header that featured a 32-run barrage by the Twins that day. Minnesota won both games. * The White Sox will try to reverse a negative trend from last season when they open their home schedule today. Last season Chicago went 38-43 on the South Side for their first losing record there since 1999. * Justin Morneau has collected an RBI in each of his last four games, including four on Saturday against the Royals. Game Notes For Opening Day

* The Indians have won 10 of the last 15 at home against the White Sox. * The White Sox fourth place finish in the Central Division in 2007 was the first time Chicago did not finish in the top three in its division since 1989 when they finished 7th in the AL West under skipper Jeff Torborg. 1989 was also the last time Chicago had lost 90 games before doing so again in 2007. * Chicago had the 4th-best relief ERA (3.23) in baseball in 2005 when it won the World Championship, but in 2006 it slipped to 23rd with a 4.53 ERA, and further still in 2007 to 28th with a 5.47 relief ERA. * Jim Thome led the team with 35 home runs in 2007, and has now hit 30+ home runs in 11 of the last 12 seasons. * The Indians had a successful 2007 dispatching the Yankees in the division series in four games, before holding a 3-1 advantage after four games versus the eventual World Champion Red Sox. Cleveland eventually lost the ALCS in seven games to Boston. * C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona each won 19 games in 2007. They were the first Cleveland duo to reach 19 wins since 1956 when Herb Score, Early Wynn, and Bob Lemon all won 20 games for the Tribe. * Victor Martinez has driven in 395 runs over the last four seasons, the most among players whose primary position is Catcher.

Game Notes For Friday vs. Halos

* The Angels have won four of the past five games against the White Sox in Chicago. * The Angels are 6-4 in their past 10 games, and it has been their offense determining their fate. Los Angeles has scored 54 runs in its last six wins (9.0 per game), but just five runs in its last four losses (1.3 per game). * Chicago is just 23-37 since the break, the worst record in the AL and trailing only Florida (21-36) in the majors. * Los Angeles is more than happy to get Chone Figgins back. Since returning earlier this month from a sprained left wrist, Figgins is torching the ball, hitting .563 with four doubles and adding four stolen bases as well. * Bartolo Colon has not followed up his 21-win 2005 season very well. In the last two seasons, he is just 7-11 with an ERA of 6.08. * Jose Contreras began his career with four consecutive winning seasons, compiling a 48-27 record, but this year his losses have doubled his wins at 8-16.

* The White Sox have lost five of their last six games against the Mariners at SAFECO Field and are 8-18 against Seattle at SAFECO since the beginning of the 2001 season. * Jose Contreras’ 6-14 record is the worst by a White Sox player in a single season since Todd Ritchie went 5-15 in 2002 (minimum 20 decisions). * Bobby Jenks has successfully retired the last 41 batters he has faced, the most since Tom Browning retired 40 batters in a row in 1988. * Miguel Batista is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA in nine career appearances against the White Sox. They have lost 17 of their last 21 games. * Paul Konerko tied Minnie Minoso for fourth on the White Sox all-time RBI list with 808. The top three on the list are Frank Thomas (1465), Luke Appling (1116) and Harold Baines (981). * The White Sox have lost seven consecutive series and have not won one since taking two of three from Oakland May 21-23. * Josh Johnson will return to the mound tonight for the first time since Sept. 12, 2006. * Chicago travels to Philadelphia for the first of six consecutive games in the Keystone State. They start a three game series with the Pirates on Friday. The White Sox and Phillies meet for the first time in Philadelphia since June 20, 2002. * Mark Buehrle won his 100th career game yesterday. He is the fifth pitcher in history to record each of his first 100 career victories in a White Sox uniform. The others are Red Faber, Joe Horlen, Ted Lyons and Ed Walsh. * Ozzie Guillen has 299 career wins as White Sox manager. With his next win, he will become the 11th White Sox manager to win 300 games. * Jim Thome returns to Philadelphia for the first time since being traded from the Phillies to the White Sox on November 25, 2005. He has hit .286 since joining the White Sox after hitting .207 in an injury-plagued 2005 season with the Phillies. * In his last four starts since May 20, Adam Eaton is 3-1 with a 4.95 ERA. At home this season, though, he's 2-3 with a 7.04 ERA in six starts. * Jimmy Rollins has 10 extra base hits in his last 61 at-bats (six doubles, three triples, one home run). * The Phillies are 3-3 in Interleague play this season.
