Joe Torre has been a part of more than 1,000 victories with the Yankees, and a good portion have been nutty and memorable. One that automatically comes to mind is the win over Boston on July 1, 2004 when Derek Jeter jumped into the stands to make that remarkable catch, and the rest of the game was played as if it was October.
But how about tonight's developments??? The Yankees were down nine runs, 10-1, midway through the third inning. Overcoming a nine-run deficit has only happened three other times in franchise history, the most recent on June 26, 1987. Anyway, tonight, there were just so many big moments, so many key hits, critical plays. And you take away just one of them and the win doesn't happen.
The Posada walk-off home run was undoubtedly the most exciting moment, the capper of an amazing night in the Bronx. But I'm interested, what does everyone in Yankeeland recall as a key play and why does that play stand out in your mind?
Jeter's three-run home to spark a six-run sixth inning was a turning point, for sure. Or how about Posada blocking the plate in the top of the sixth, taking what he believes was the hardest hit of his career -- and staying in the game.
And just wondering, anyone worried about Shawn Chacon?

I am a little worried about Chacón; but I am more concerned about Randy Johnson. Shawn pitches himself into and out of trouble. Sometimes he will get in but not out.
I don't think that Melky has the professional maturity yet to play in the Bronx.
Chacon is a mediocre pitcher who seems to always have men on base. This was 1 of those games where he couldn't wiggle out of trouble. The player that concerns me is Rivera. He is starting to allow hitters to reach base, and his strikeout rate is way down. Almost every batter makes contact, where previously he was "blowing them away."
Amazing win last night, but it overshadowed some concerns. Principly, Torre's penchant to overuse certain bullpen guys and run them into the ground. I can't even blame Proctor for his non-hold, Torre's been riding him too much. Will he follow the same pattern with Proctor that he did in overusing Quantrill, Gordon, and Sturtz? All seemed to have dead arms by September and two--Quantrill and Sturtz--broke down physically the year after Torre abused them.
Chacon was pitching injured last night, with a badly bruised leg,so lets cut him some slack. I am worried about Mariano-his location and control are off. I am also concerned that Proctor is getting abused like Quantrill and Sturtze were.Joe Torre needs to give him some time off between games. When Jeter homered,I thought they could win the game.
I'm not worried about Chacon. He's an end of the rotation starter - you'll get some good games, you'll get some bad games. When all is said and done, he'll give us 12-14 wins. That's all we should expect.
I'm not worried about Rivera either. His velocity is still up there and he still has movement on the cutter. It always takes him a month or so to get into a groove. He'll be fine.
Randy is the guy people should be worried about. We need 17-20 wins from him this year.
I'm not worried about Chacon either, he seems to learn from his mistakes. Rivera just needs more work. You only start to worry about him when his velocity drops, history has shown that his control deserts him when he doesn't pitch regularly. I'm worried about Johnson, and I think they need Clemens back, as much as I hate to say it. Pitching wins in October, not bats. If Soriano or S. Stewart are available cheap, that's fine but worry about pitching first..PLEASE!
