How about tonight's lineup?!?! Think Joe Torre ever thought he would be writing these names in this order? Not very likely. With Hideki Matsui and Gary Sheffield on the disabled list and Jason Giambi sitting out after straining the muscles in the left side of his neck last night, here's how the Yankees' lineup for tonight looks:
Johnny Damon, CF
Derek Jeter, SS
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Jorge Posada, C
Robinson Cano, 2B
Bernie Williams, RF
Andy Phillips, DH
Miguel Cairo, 1B
Melky Cabrera, LF
The only spot in the lineup Torre thought more about was cleanup, and he chose Posada over Williams. "There's really no rhyme or reason for a lineup right now," Torre said, "other than get your hitters up top and hope they come up to hit often."

Torre looks like a genius now. I wonder how the game would have turned out if Posada wasn't batting cleanup and Cairo wasn't hitting where he was.
With Sheff and Matsui (and maybe Giambi) out of the lineup, the Yanks are looking a little top heavy. Once you get past Arod, the lineup is very average. Maybe Joe should consider spreading out the lineup a little - batting Bubba 2nd, moving Jeter down a spot, keeping Posada down around 6th or 7th - anything to spread out the good hitters.
Melky Cabrera,Kevin Reese,Kevin Thompson.
What type of choice is this to play left field.
It amounts to and 0fer at the plate with runners in scoring position. And at least 1 big error in the field leading to run(s) being scored.
I feel so much better after venting. Who am I kidding, no I don't.
