Melky Baseball

So what does everyone think of Melky Cabrera thus far?

Looks better than last year, yes. But good enough to be the Yankees' everyday leftfielder for the time being? Hmmmm... That's the question the Yankees are asking themselves right now, and they hope to have an answer by the time Gary Sheffield returns from the disabled list (not that they know when that will be right now).

Let's hear from Yankees Nation. Would you like to leave Cabrera out there for a month, give him the same shot Robinson Cano got last year, and hope it turns out just as well? Or are you of the thought that Brian Cashman should be hitting the phones non-stop, dialing up general managers looking for a major-league proven leftfielder?

As for the Yankees' old leftfielder, Hideki Matsui -- remember him? -- he is expected to show up at the Stadium tomorrow for the first time since undergoing surgery on his broken left wrist. He would have showed up earlier, but he has been sick at home with a fever. He sure has run into some bad luck, huh?

Let Melky play, he has some problems with playing left field instead of center, like in the Minors, but he has shown a strong arm. he has got two outfield assists in as many games
If he can hit consistently, then let him play.

Once again, everyone forgets about Bubba Crosby! All he did last night was drive in one of the teams two runs with a clutch two out hit, and then make a spectaculor catch that could have been the game saver if the offense could score! Can anyone imagine Sheffield making that catch??? Why is this kid ALWAYS overlooked and buried by Torre? When (if) Sheffield ever returns, let's put Bubby in LF and let him play!!!

Cash should be on the phone right now getting either Reggie Sanders or Craig Wilson. Melky is part of a package the Yanks will put together come July 31 to get whatever they need for the stretch drive.

i guess nobody hears me kevin thomspon bring him up wake up cashman

Didn't they let Matsui ride out a .230 batting average and hitting into 10,000 double plays his first season? Then everything clicked for him that June. Didn't Cano get to endure a 2-21 start? Give Melky some time to find his way. Bubba deserves a chance, too.

Of course, the Yanks will probably wind up trading both of them for Soriano and signing Clemens to 30 mil for half a season.

I'd like to see more Bubba than Melky. We don't need a slugger. We just need someone to chase down flyballs. Crosby plays solid D and can do little things that Melky can't (bunt, steal, etc). I do think Melky will develop into a good player, but we don't have the luxury of developing him right now. Crosby has already proven that he can contribute.

Hmmm. He can't hit. His fielding is very shaky. He is not fast. Does this sound even like the qualties of a Major League ballplayer. I think not. Melky you have to go. Bubba should be the starter in left field. This is a no brainer for Joe.

Let me Melky play. I think not. No matter you put him in the outfield he is a liabilty. This was proven again last night by his misplay of Cliff Floyds' flyball in the third inning. Bring on Terrence Long.

Melky is awesome he leads the American League in outfield assists he isn't spectacualar at the plate but he is just shy of .300 and 2 strikes doesn't mean 1 strike for strikeout like most rookies and Melky can bunt and steal as far as Bubba goes, I liked him but they already put him up for assignment
