Octavio Dotel, just three days away from being activated by the Yankees, is instead headed to see Yankees team physican Stuart Hershon tomorrow after feeling discomfort in his right triceps following his outing today at Class-A Staten Island.
The Yankees don't usually like to count on injured players, especially someone like Dotel coming off Tommy John surgery, but it was hard for them not to get excited before this. Torre said the plan was for Dotel to meet the Yankees here Sunday after today's outing, which would have been his final minor-league rehab appearance.
Just spoke with GM Brian Cashman, and he insisted this doesn't add any more pressure on him to swing a deal for a reliever (i.e. Roberto Hernandez). But what do you expect him to say? Obviously this is bit of bad news, and the Yankees, like every contender, are looking to add some depth to their pitching staff.

Why do the Yankees continue to sign such weak and injury prone players--and then over pay for them. I would like to have Brian Cashman's job.I would do it for no compensation and would have a better track record of signing players!!!!!
Cashman can't be blamed. An impatient and star-struck owner still has influence over player moves, despite what they tell you.
One big problum with the Yankess is this they go after older players not just pitiching outfielders as well. If you look at there line up for this year alone look at all of the older players, and they were thinking of siging reggie sanders come on,soo they will ask Don Mattley to come out of retirement, and ron guidery to pitch. If Huges is so grate why the heck dont they give hime a try, Ill tell you my reason why, cause its so simple, its a no brainer. Ok if they tried hugues now and he failed badley, there goes there main chip. But what I realley realley dont understand is this. If Cashman traied hugues for d. willis they be further ahead, do you want to win this year or next year.First willis has world series experience grate picture, we dont or will never now how huges is going to do on a major leve. Besides willis is young also.
The reason they don't let hughes come to the big leagues yet is that a) he is still really young and needs more time to develop you don't want him to blow his arm out b) if he comes up now you are risking a lot...this kid is the future not the present. and c) the kid only pitches about 50 pitches a game...to come up here and ask him to pitch 80-100 pitches would be stupid...it would hurt his development...i would rather see him next year when he has a whole season of double AA under his belt...to bring him up now would be stupid. who i would like to see up here is tabata...this kid is special. and regarding the trade deadline im really torn...i dont want sanders he is too old and injury prone, i dont want wilson, i would like to see abreu up here but dont think he is worth all that money...and i dont want sori here unless we can sign him to a 3 year deal...a rent a player isnt worth it...and regarding willis and zito...the marlins won't trade the face of their organization so get it out of your head we will ever get him. and zito won't get traded yet but i am pretty sure he will be a yankee next year...what a sweet staff we will have then...randy, moose, zito, hughes, and wang...wow!
the yankees are the best team in the world. i wish i could meet u guys
