Postseason Roster

Getting back to the postseason roster, here are my picks for the final spots. For the final two position player spots, I take Miguel Cairo and Aaron Guiel. For the final three bullpen spots, I take Cory Lidle, Ron Villone and Brian Bruney. Thoughts?

Agreed 99%. Villone though has been one big question mark lately. Another questionable - Farnworth.

I'll take cairo and guiel. If lidle F-ups on his next start you have to give consideration to rasner. Besides I'm not sure he will even pitch that game his finger is still acting up. I will also take bruney and villone. I'm not realy sold on farnsworth, other than his questionable back that acts up when it wont's to (seriously does his back have a mind of it on?). I'm not sold his post season experience case in point last year with the braves reminds anyone?

In a 5 game series, I think both Wang and Randy should get 2 starts. Mussina goes in game 3. Even though Randy has a sub-par record on short rest, this is our best shot at advancing. Wright should be the "long man" if any starter has early trouble. Lidle has no role till we advance to the 2nd round\7 game series. In a 5 game series, the bullpen usually decides who advances. In lieu of Lidle, we should carry a reliever who can appear in several games. The more relievers you carry, the easier it is to "mix and match" every game. With our weak starting pitching, the bullpen will be used early and often.

Moose is sup-par again (6 runs to the devil rays in 1 inning!). 1 win in what -8 games??? Of course, the Unit would've had a similar record if not for the astronomical run support. I'd pick wright as #2, moose #3 lidle 34 ans the unit in the bullpen...

Don't worry about the Moose, math.
He will rise up to the occasion, when the occasion arises.

Anyway, going back to the bullpen for the playoffs.

Villone and Farnsworth are garbage.

Take Bruney, Rasner and the other youngsters.

Agreed except for Villone. He's completely shot.

I wouldn't take Villone with a ten-foot pole right now.

Reading some of these comments, makes me question if the authors actually watch the Yankees or listen to Joe Torre at all. Here's how I predict the roster in the ALDS:
Starting Lineup: Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Giambi, Rodriguez, Sheffield, Matsui, Cano, Posada

Bench Players: Cabrerra, Williams, Cairo, Philips, Fasano (2 outfielders, 2 infielders, 1 catcher)

Relief Pitchers: Rivera, Farnsworth, Proctor, Villone, Bruney, Lidle, Myers. (Closer, 8th inning guy, three 7th inning guys, 1 long reliever, and lefty specialist)

My starting rotation would be:
1. Wang
2. Mussina
3. Johnson
4. Wright

And I'd be praying to God that we sweep the Twins or Tigers in 3 and not have to take it to Game 4 or 5.

Aaron Guiel? Really?

The Yankees don't have the most dependable pitching, so I see Mr. Torre going with 12 pitchers (maybe 11 in the ALDS, but he'll need 12 for a seven game series).

Right now, I'm concerned that Torre may have to decide between the 22-year-old standout defensive stud rookie Melky Cabrera, and the 38-year-old all time playoff leader in almost everything Bernie Williams.

Aaron Guiel, Craig Wilson, Cory Lidle are not going to be Yankees in 2007. I'm not sure what their contracts are, but they will either be released, traded, etc... There is no room for them, and Lidle hasn't measured up to much.

Next year the Yanks NEED a solid starting pitcher that can be the ace for the next 5 years since Randy will most likely retire after 2007, and Moose will probably be done as well.

what do you think about darrell rasner and jeff karstens for the rotation next year?

why spend $80 million on zito?

karstens and rasner aren't great, but there capable of going six innings and holding the opponent to three runs. and with the yankees offense, that should be plenty good.
