Randy Johnson is likely to have back surgery soon.
More info to come later.

how surprising...the old man needs to go...if not he is a #4 starter at best. and moose should not come back either...if he does he is the number 5 starter. if he can't hold a lead anymore in the playoffs he doesnt deserve to be here. get matsuzaka, zito/willis, bring up hughes and clippard, and get some bullpen help.
I'd really like to hear "Randy Johnson is likely to retire soon" instead. I can dream.
This isn't a video game where you can just trade anybody you want or sign every free agent you want.
You can't depend on two young arms (Hughes and Clippard) who have never thrown a single pitch in the major leagues.
Also, they aren't going to sign both Matsuzaka and Zito. Those two guys would probably cost them at least $30 million per season to get them both.
That's not going to happen. It's one or the other, not both.
Well- so much for his trade value. Any votes for the "Unit" as the 8th inning set up guy?
I agree with Aaron's post. Johnson can no longer be a 1 or 2 or even 3. If Moose comes back, which I hope doesn't happen, he' a number 4 or 5. Hopefully, Johnson can't come back and they collect the insurance. Hughes has to compete for the number 2 or 3 behing Wang in spring training, and try to sign Matsuzaka if he's posted, and sign Zito if Willis isn't available. Also the bullpen has to change. Myers has to go because he's a waste of a roster spot. Farnsworth is also a waste since he can only throw one ineffective inning every 2 or 3 days.
Also, pitch counts be damned. If a starter is effective, he has to go as long as he can so Torre doesn't sabotage another reliever by bringing in the bullpen in the 5th or 6th because a pitch count is 99.
There's a lot of work to do.
any chance he'll be out for the year?
Hey, hey, I haven't heard a peep about Carl Pavano?!? Would he be the #9 starter?
I wish randy Johnson well with his surgery. The only plans that I see for Randy is as the number 5 starter. The problem with fixing the Yankee staff is. We have too many spots to fill. Now, we have Wang as our number 1. Randy J as our number 5 if he heels from his surgery. Mussina should be a solid number 4 at 7or 8 million for the year. Now, go out and fill spots 2 and 3. The bullpen should be better with a year under their belt especially Proctor and Bruney. Henn might be a possible starter. Dotel should be resigned because this will be his first year with full strength from his surgery. All is not so bad just not great. We are looking for pitching which every team in the majors is too. Only we do have some chips. Matsui or A-rod but call me nuts . I would still keep A-rod. The winter should be really interesting with trades and signings. I would dump Sheff. just too much baggage. He affects the team in negative ways. Wright and Lidle have no credibility with me. If, push came to shove. I would try Henn or a younger pitcher and develop as we move along. Only, this makes Mussina and RJ move up on the food chain and the need for a real number1 or number2 is imperative.
We should dump as much salary as we can and get under the luxury tax threshold. That way, we can get Red Sox and Mets luxury tax money.
i want to fight bob
We're in trouble for 2007. We don't have much to trade, except A-Rod. Nobody wants to take on the contracts that we have so the only tradeable chips are the young guys and we can't go down that road again. I'd like to get Zito as a number 2, but I just don't see Wang as a number 1 for some reason. Moose will have to stay because at number 4, he's the only option they have. I like Buerhle if he can bounce back from last year. He throws a lot of innings and has good stuff. Pavano just got hurt packing up his locker, he's out for the year. Wright tried to gut it out but he has to go, Lidle had one good game so he's a goner. I also have a bad feeling we're going to see Roger Clemens in a Red Sox uniform next year. Sheff's gotta go too, his attitude sucks and you just know the first thing he'll do is call Boston and go play for them. Manny and Sheff on the same team- that would be fun! They should just get Wells back so they can have all the drama that we won't miss.
Aaron, you never learn do you.....
One "post-ago" you were apologetic and contrite for being annoying again.
Now HERE YOU ARE BEING A WEASEL AND THROWING RANDY JOHNSON UNDER THE BUS.
YOU BLAME HIM FOR THE TEAMS FAILURE?
YOU CAN'T HELP YOURSELF CAN YOU LOSER.
YOU BACKSTAB TORRE,
YOU BACKSTAB RANDY JOHNSON.
YOU ARE A WEASEL AARON.
YOU CANNOT STOP BEING A WEASEL.
You will backstab anyone as long as it serves you. Look at yourself. You are not a true fan, or a "fanatic".
You are simply a self serving Yankee fan frontrunner who has a big problem with: LOYALTY.
TRY SOME LOYALTY ON FOR SIZE AARON.
STOP BEING A SISSY.
Have you heard about the new Yankees cocktail? Apparently, it's not selling very well. It's expensive and looks good, but you can't make it past the first round.
Fprget what I posted ealier about Zito possibly being our number 2 starter next year- He's getting his butt kicked by the Tigers right now. I think we know what that is like. It is killing me to watch this game knowing my boys should be there. Come on Spring Training....
MIKE MUSSINA: WATCH OUT FOR AARON. HE HAS ADDED YOU TO HIS HIT LIST.
WHO'S NEXT AARON?
WHO ELSE DO YOU LOVE ONE MINUTE, AND THEN TOSS THEM AWAY THE NEXT.
IS IT JOE TORRE AFTER THE YANKEES LOSE
THE FIRST SPLIT-SQUAD GAME.
GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR AND ASK HIM TO FIND A SPINE AND ASK HIM FOR A
REASON WHY YOU ARE A WEASEL.
A BIG BIG WEASEL.
Bob: 17 wins? That was a result of the circumstances. The Yanks scored a ton of runs. On a worse team, RJ wouldn't have been anywhere near 17 wins.
Can we get Randy Johnson to share a cab ride with Carl Pavano ?
Again I keep asking myself --- did Texas trade the Yankees Alex Rodriguez or Aurelio Rodriguez?
I wish Johnson well, but it would probably be better for the Yankees if he didn't come back from the surgery. The Yankees would collect the insurance money, reduce their payroll (which they have to do for morale reasons), and the front office would realize what a dire situation they have with their starting pitching.
If Randy Johnson does come back, try moving him to the bullpen. The worst case scenario would be a few blown games in the 7th inning instead of the 3rd. Its worth a shot.
The idea of trading A-Rod makes more and more sense, the more we find out about the pitching situation. Frankly, even if he didn't have his psychological issues, the Yankees have enough hitting and a gaping hole in their starting rotation. Rodriguez is the only offensive player they can trade at this point and get some value back.
I never thought much of Zito just the way the Yankees hit him in many of his outings but last night cemented my thoughts. He's a soft tossing location pitcher. He hopes the slow curve makes his fastball appear faster than it does. If his location is off then he's in trouble. Boy, the Stienbrenner years of trading prospects are starting to hurt now. JT will have to manage his butt off with the pitching as of now. We will end of trading either Matsui, A-rod or Cabrera to get pitching. Its a shame the team has the offensive tools and average D to win if we had some decent pitching to get the job done.
From my perspective, deep in the heart of Boston, they will probably sign a free agent pitcher, Zito or one of the others mentioned. Go into next season with Wang, Johnson, Hughes, and whoever they sign. They will be at or a few games above .500 by the all star break next year. By then, the suitors for A-rod will intensify, especially if they Angels are close and not scoring runs, like this past season. I believe at that point Cashman will deal him for another pitcher.
Hang in there folks, if you need to cheer up a bit, read boston.com for a few days, the red sox aren't even 5th page news. They really suck! Whithout any moves this offseason, they are not a playoff contender for at least two seasons and their ownership is cutting back payroll as they still try to increase profits by increasing the highest ticket prices in baseball, and squeezing the sox diehards into seats that my five year old can't fit into and that face away from the action.
I love how everyone is angry with me it is too funny...anyways...just so you losers know I wasn't throwing Randy under the bus, or backstabbing Torre but I wouldn't expect much else from morons who don't know a thing about baseball and what it takes to be a winner...what abunch of losers you are...that said I must say the Yankees need a change because obviously you clueless monkey's have no idea what is going on, what we have now isn't getting this team past the first round...but i guess you guys settle for mediocrity...that is why you are losers. Randy is too old and doesn't have what it takes anymore I hope his back surgery goes well but in all actuality when will he return?, Moose is old and should have been able to hold a 2 run lead, but he didn't, so i hope he doesn't come back and if he does it is as a #4 or #5...the whole team couldn't come through when they needed it most...thank god cash isn't at all like you losers who are happy with the status quo...we need new young pitchers like Matsuzaka, Hughes, Clippard to bring some more attitude and emotion to this team(like the boss said)...thank god for melky and cano and the emotion they brought to this team this season...so while you losers stay at home and cry and whine that this team was good enough and no changes should be made...im going to watch and wait while cash makes some good moves, brings in Matsuzaka, gets a new first baseman, and improves this team to bring home a championship next season...And to all the losers out there who think im a weasel...say it some more because all it does is make me happy and makes me realize I am right...if you tards think it is wrong what i say i know it is right
Hey, "Behind The Enemy Lines." Thanks for the intelligence report, It was purrfect. I give you A+ on your call name. Can you blame the the red sox. The Fla. Marlins owner gets roughly 68 mil in sharing of three different types with a payroll 15 mil. this does not count his portion of ticket and concession revenue.
I need a couple off partners to buy a team maybe just 100. Play the same game then sell.
I also live "behind enemy lines" up here in NH. The picture in RSN isn't pretty.
There's talk of Shef playing RF for them next year.
How bout working Damen at 1st base. It would make room in the OF for Melky and at 1st his arm isn't a liability.
Hey Aaron:
Don't get too upset Man! It's one scumbag out there doing these posts. I recognize the writing style and he's attacked others on other segments. He's just one gutless puke who has nothing better to do. Your posts are good and so are most of the others here. We need a blog that only Yankee fans can hit.
Keep your chin up Dude!
Enemy Lines:
You are so right about the seats at that ballpark that should be condemed! I took my family on a ballpark vacation and this past year we hit Fenway. We sat near the visitor's bully and this freakin' fence was in the way. The only action we say was anything hit to RF. Talk about cramped? My 5 yr old was b & m about staying.
Aaron knows what it is to be a winner?...no way, he knows what it is to be a whiner. Big difference there.
You do backstab Aaron. It's a page from George Steinbrenner in his glory days.
Listen to this idiot up there, "I recognize the writing style", like he's some sort of expert or something. Don't quit your day job, numbnuts.
Aaron, can you please open me up sometimes, so you can at least give the impression that you know how to spell?
Hey Aaron, who's a loser, the fan whose baseball team got beat and knocked out of the playoffs or the fan whose team is still playing?

With a bad back, no team is going to trade for Randy Johnson. He will be in our starting rotation by May, so just accept it. Our quickest and best chance to improve this team is by trading A-ROD. We should be able to get a #3 starter, a mid reliever, and a position player for him. The Angels know he is the best player in baseball when comfortable. They will put him back at S.S. and get him away from having to play along side Jeter. A-ROD would love to compete against Jeter long distance. He knows his stats would dwarf Jeter's, and fans would not be able to compare the 2 players playing at the same time, in the same game.

Hey Golic...its such a great line i had to use it...it was just so fitting
Sure am glad none of you has any direct say about the roster. If you have jobs, do you want your annual performance review to be just the last week of the year or over the whole 12 months? Yes, it was a lousy Divisional Series, but who had the best record in baseball? Detroit got hot and won 7 in a row. Stop with the knee jerk reactions, get middle relief help (remember they were great in the first half, you can't throw 100 innings out of the bullpen though). AND, how many other Yankees in the last 15 years have hit .290/35/119?! Giambi's BA as a Yankee is? And he can't play a full season, even as a DH.
