* Jason Giambi will have arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist tomorrow.

* Randy Johnson will have surgery to repair his herniated disc next Thursday.

* Workhorse Scott Proctor had an MRI on his right elbow this week, concerned about a clicking noise, but the test came back fine. Credit MLB.com with that nugget.

* The Yankees won't gather their top team officials for their typical start-of-offseason organizational meetings like they have in past years. It's Brian Cashman show, and he said earlier today that he already has met with his Tampa-based officials, and that he will gather his pro scouts later on to prepare for free agency and trades.

* Went to the Holiday Inn in Bohemia today to listen to Yankee executive Ray Negron speak to a group of Suffolk County educators about his new children's book, The Boy of Steel. Negron has done everything in baseball, from batboy to agent to scout to his current job as a special consultant to George Steinbrenner. And now he has dedicated his life to today's youth, saying he wants to give them hope that they can do whatever they want in life. All proceeds of his book will go to cancer research.

After one season with Torre, Proctor now knows why the bullpen sounds like it's infested with crickets.

Honestly, Torre is just a horrible manager.

They win 4 WS in the 90's and now he can do no wrong.

Do any of you agree that even I could have managed those teams and they'd still win and who know's maybe even more than the four?

they should have 8 titles fire the nose picker

Hey, just a note - you said "The Book of Steel," the title of the book is "The Boy of Steel." Just in case people are looking for it in the stores/on Amazon.

Nice work. I enjoy your blog and I thank you for the information you provide.

Yeesh. You're right. Thanks for picking up on that. Made the fix.

hey tessa--the boy of steel is the one and only clark kent--superman

All teams have at least some needs or holes to fill on their teams. There's no dumb GM's out there that just want to give away what the Yankees need. Brian Cashman has to look at what he has for trading chips to use in order to get the 1st big need on the Yankees - pitching and it all starts with A-Rod.
He's the biggest chip to offer to get real good pitching and his age (31) and value make him that chip. Once he sits down with Cashman et al and realizes that NYC is not best for him and his career, he'll concede the no trade clause and all parties will be happy. Nobody likes to hear anything about dealing Philip Hughes and other good players in the Yankees future so who else of value can the Yankees deal but A-Rod ? It's the only way to get better in a hurry.

Trading ARod would be a dumb move.

The big questions I have is how do you revamp pitching and also keep working the youth into the team. I would hate to see Melky get lost in the shuffle.
Who do you think they go after on pitching?
