Albert Pujols (damaged hammy and all)
Is there even a question?
At least Jeff Weaver didn't kick our asses in the ALDS
My pick is Kenny Rogers.
My reasoning is because this guy has been around and taken his lumps for 17 seasons and has been on a lot of bad teams. He’s never been a great pitcher, but has been a solid one for a very long time.
He really didn’t contribute much to the ’96 Yankees championship, but he did get a ring.
This season, he’s been right in the middle of this resurgent Tigers team and was lights out in the ALDS and ALCS. Not to mention he pitched the game of his life against a Yankees team that he hadn’t beaten in 13 years.
In my opinion, he just deserves it more than Weaver.
Is it too late to cancel the World Series?
Couldn't care less about either one of them.
I would like to see Detroit win the WS because the Cardinals has the second highest number of World Championships behind the Yankees and so I don't want them to get any more closer to the Yankees.
Yes, I want to see the Yankees far and above everyone else.
Greedy, yes I am. Hehehe.
I'm definitely rooting for Jeff Weaver because he's HOTTTT!!! -- and I mean both in looks and on the field. I felt bad that he couldn't produce when he was with the Yankees. He tried very hard, but he had his share of problems.
Kenny Rogers is nasty, arrogant and has been conceitedly gloating since he beat the Yankees in just that one game. I don't care for him at all.
However, I'm rooting for the Tigers merely because they beat the Yankees. If they mow down the Cardinals like they did the Yankees and the A's, it will show the world that the Yankees weren't as bad as they looked, but the Tigers are a lot better than we had ever imagined. Besides, there are very few bloated egos on the Tigers. They seem like a nice bunch of kids.
Yeah, I'll continue rooting for the Tigers, but I'll continue to insist that Jeff Weaver is HOTTTTT!!!! and wouldn't mind seeing him wear a WS ring.
I am not a fan of LaRussa; too arrogant. Let's go Tigers!
I'll have to go with Weaver, evven though I don't think the Cards have any kind of chance in this series. The only reason I pick Weaver is because I haven't heard of him acting like a jackass like Rogers has. I don't care how long he's been in the league, he's always been a jerk. Rooting for him to win a WS would be like rooting for Bonds to win the MVP again.
I forgot to add that I would still like Detroit to win as I always like to see the team who beat the Yanks go all the way, it gives me a teeny bit of comfort as I look forward to Hot Stove season.
Rogers.
At least we won the 3 postseason games he started in 1996. He also seemed genuinely regretful that his tenure with NYY didn't work out.
Yeah, Jim A, it seems like the team that beats the Yankees wins the World Series. This has been the case every single year since 2000 (except for the Angels last year). The Yankees seem to be the litmus stick for success.
Detroit, American League team
There's still baseball going on????
I wouldn't be sad to see either of them win a ring. The media and the fans were way to hard on both of them. They tried their best. Kenny pitched some good games for the Mets too. Now if Carl Pavano gets a ring ... that's another story. It will probably be an onion ring.
Who cares!!!!!!!!
Did I hear right ? Game one of this years World Series was the latest date of a game one in WS history ? No surprise. It's about time that MLB shorten the regular season to 150 games and start the postseason sooner. All it will take is a few snowouts and they'll be baseball in November with the NFL season almost at the halfway point. TV greed at it's finest. All MLB has to do is to take a look at attendance for the last 2 weeks of September to see the large dropoff in teams not going to the postseason. Those fans are into the NFL already. Where does it all end ?
Um, Rogers already has a ring...
This WS didn't seem worthy of TV time but then FOX picked up on Kenny's golden left hand yesterday. Was it dirt? Was it pine tar to better his grip on the ball on a cold day?
ESPN went back and looked at his hand in all the post-season games he pitched and he seemed to have something on his hand (same spot) every time even before the cold weather. And during the Yankee game.
Cheating??
YES!
I can't believe they didn't make a bigger deal out of it. He should have been ejected! The umpires didn't even inspect the substance they just quietly told him to clean it off after the first inning during commercial break.
I guess what saves Kenny here is that he still pitched great after the 1st (no substance). But the rules are the rules.
This was like when the Angels played at Washington. The Nats manager asked the umpire to inspect KRods hand in the 9th and they found pine tar. He and the Angels manager were ejected and the Nats won the game in extra innings.
One ESPN analysis said that he didn’t care. It was OK with him since the pitcher wouldn’t hit the batter with the ball. That’s just dumb. In the post season any batter would take one for the team and get some base runners. Let’s say the pine tar gave him a better grip on his breaking pitches, it makes the difference between throwing them for strikes or a ball. If you can’t throw your breaking stuff for strikes the hitter sits on your fastball. It makes a difference. And if I were the Cardinals I would have made a big deal.
Maybe it's common practice and MLB doesn't care. So when they just realized the camera could see it so they told him to clean it off. No biggie.
Uh, who cares?
