Yes, it's that time again. I'm off beginning tomorrow, but don't worry. It's not you. It's me. Really. We baseball writers rack up lots and lots of extra time off thanks to countless 11-hour work days, flights across the country and nights away from home. It all pays off now. I'm off for a while, essentially seven of the next eight weeks. But I won't be a stranger. I'll stop by the blog every now and again, chime in with some thoughts. Maybe we'll even start to assess the 2007 rosters of the other teams in the American League. But if you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know why. It's been fun :)

Jim B. no offense is meant by this: but do you actually consider posting on this blog a couple of times per day to be work? This is a diversion, a break from work. people can talk and write about sports for hours. Isn't baseball one of your main interests? I can understand taking time off from writing for Newsday, but why would you stop posting?
Well Jeff
Jim B gets paid to post here. No one else does. So yes, thats considered work.
Jim- Enjoy your time off. Unfortunately, I think you've started something here you will not be able to get away from. The intelligent responces are growing daily. Your hard work is just starting to pay dividends. Thanks
Thanks Jim. have a nice slumber!
Jim B.
Just want to wish you a Happy Holiday Season! I hope that Santa is good to you and your family! :-)
Also, thanks for this blog. It's really nice for me to come here and "talk" to other Yankee fans since none live near me. It's a great bunch of guys (and gals) posting here and they're all pretty cool!
Thanks for all the kind words, everyone.
And I'm still going to be around. Just not everyday, as I have been for months.
One thing I've thought about doing in coming weeks is post the roster of an AL team on the blog every few days, and we can all debate what their record will be.
Good idea?
Sounds like it could be a fun way to pass the day, I'm in.
I'm in.
On another note:
Did any of you guys see this?

Never mind. I saw that you guys already read the article.
I should have checked the other post (on the Defector signing).
Anything you post will get a response from we "die hard" Yankee fans. Try to keep it AL oriented.
OK Jim and enjoy your napasuki (not Japanese for a nap, just kidding of course). Speaking of the culture, if Theo "Geisha Boy" Epstein doesn't get Matsuzaka signed, he's best served by enrolling in the Brian Cashman Academy of Negotiating.
Buck Showalter is a jerk, and 2 years ago sources revealed that he said "F**" the Yankees" when he learned that people were questioning why he pulled some of his key players after 3 innings vs Anaheim the last game of the season. The Yanks had to open up out in Anaheim in 2005.
Jim B; Enjoy the much deserve time off with the family during the Holidays. In addition I thank you for bringing many Yankee fans who do not live in the metro area together with your stories and comments about our Yanks. Now, go out and recharge the batteries.
Have a restful vacation, Jim B.
Why is it that picture makes me want a Klondike Bar®?

Who farted in here?
I'll miss your daily posts a lt, Jim. I hate the off-season but your blog has made it a little easier to get through.
Have a great time off and a happy and healthy holiday season and new year.
Thanks for your work!
Peggy
Jim B- Enjoy your time off, well deserved.
ANNOUNCEMENT FORTHCOMING : In an effort to regain the $104M in signing Matsuzaka, the Socks ownership group will be adding more seats next to the present seats at their tiny ballpark. This will reduce construction costs for seats with terrible sightlines which are many. These new seats will be added on to the prime seats. For any Yankee fans attending games to see their team play, a letter will be mailed to Boston season ticket holders asking them to be conscious of their body odor so not to offend out-of-town fans of other cities. Realizing that spectators will be tightly squeezed in the stands, the owners will offer colostomy bags at a slightly reduced fee along with a trash fee for disposal of the bags. For the sake of convenience, the extra fees will be built into the price of beer, hot dogs and all other vendors.
Respect you!
