Camp quiet continues...

It was the relievers' turn to throw batting practice and everything went without a problem. Joe Torre seemed to be impressed by Chris Britton, for whatever that is worth on Feb. 23. Also today, Torre had a meeting with Melky Cabrera to discuss their plans for him this season. Torre told him he has to come to the stadium every day expecting to play, because they view him as a regular in a reserve role. And, lastly, an overaggressive Legends Field security clown named Randy Baker goofed today and kicked Brian Cashman's parents out of the comfy seats right by the field. When he realized his mistake, he went back to the Cashmans, but they stayed put.

Your updates are a pleasure to read. But "camp quiet"? I am surprised that the NY media did not make a big deal about A-Rod sneezing the other day and Jeter did not say "God Bless You" ? How can Derek be so cruel !

JIM B.-
Any truth to the rumor that the "security clown" was actually Swindel "on the jug"? Thanks for your updates.

Baseball news is better than drama or hyped up storylines. I'm glad to read about Melky and Britton and all things baseball. I hope this keeps up. Maybe I'll stop hearing about how "divided and business like" that Yankee camp is and how much of a "family" the freaking Mets are on the 6 o'clock news.

Thanks for the updates!

Good work Jim, Did the parents fire the CYO coach on your son's team? We need turmoil, we're Yankee fans, you know.

On a serious note, I love the stories surrounding our younger members of the team. Gaining experience rubbing shoulders with our warriors of old.

Its too early for high expectations but the thoughts are there for another young guy(s) making the transition to the parent team. I would suspect by years end 2 or 3 could be on the 25 man roster not counting backup catcher acquisition.

There is a security guard at Legends Field that rides around in a segway. I hope it was him.

What is your reaction when Redsox fan say Matsuzaka is better pitcher than Wang's? Matsuzaka who dominated Wang in asian tournament and competitions . Wang's not high level of Matsuzaka.

Guys I am going to COPY AND PASTE what I read today on relievers camp...enjoy

Here’s a breakdown:

The great Mariano Rivera (36 pitches, nine balls put in play): At best, Mo was throwing at 60 percent and the only real hard-hit ball was a would-be double crushed to right field by Derek Jeter. “No problem,” Rivera said later. “It was just BP.” All fastballs, he said.

The intense Scott Proctor (29 pitches, five balls in play): Proctor was throwing hard and was hard to hit. He seems determined to prove that last year didn’t wear him out. Plus he’s not taking anything for granted. “I still have an option, anything can happen,” he said.

Krazy Kyle Farnsworth (35 pitches, seven balls put in play): Farnsworth wasn’t afraid to work inside against the guys he faced and he worked in a few changeups. But it was mostly fastball/slider. Jorge Posada drilled a few balls well off him. “At least I didn’t hit anybody,” Farnsworth said.

The well-traveled Luis Vizcaino (26 pitches, eight balls in play) The former Diamondback has been a quiet presence in camp. But he looks like a pitcher Joe Torre can use late in games. His fastball had good movement. Other than introducing myself, I haven’t had a chance to speak to him yet.

Nice guy Mike Myers (35 pitches, nine balls put in play): The sidearm offers of Myers had poor Alberto Gonzalez tied up in knots. The Attorney General swung and missed three times. Melky Cabrera had some nice hacks.

Wang won 19 games and pitched well all yr,and he allowed .50 HRs per nine innings ,the best mark in baseball.

AJ my take on it is this...let Matsuzaka prove it.

They are the same age, D-Mat dominated Japan league last year while Wang was tied for the ML lead in wins. Maybe Matsuzaka is the better of the two, but he hasn't shown it yet.

Chip : Did you catch pinstripeblog.com take on Igawa-Matsuzaka ?I found it to be somewhat right on.

Ruse, haven't seen it.

I did see the YouTube video of Matsuzaka's pitching session. From what I saw (granted not exactly high quality video) the "gyroball" looked more like a slurve/splitter than anything else.

It sort of saucered from the inside corner and dropped down and away from the right handed hitter. That said, given the number of lefties on the Yankees, if he hangs it that could be trouble...Also A-Rod and Jeter are adept at driving the ball to the other side. I think that it will mostly hinder dead pull hitters.

Hey chip can you post a link?

Jim-
"Security Clown"? Good luck getting in the park tomorrow! That was a bit harsh and it may come back to bite you as the "clown" is plotting his revenge on you right now. Be careful my friend!

AJ: My answer to the Red Sox fans is Wang 27-11, .711 winning % and a 3.77 ERA.

DiceK has alot to do just to be considered on Wang's level.

well put larry!

Bloody Sock Helped Tigers Over Yanks?
From the New York Post -

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10082006/sports/yankees/jeremy_had_tipster_yankees_lenn_robbins.htm

It was that Fat and Overweight Curt Schilling that gave a tip to Bonderman. That's the reason Why I hate Schilling to be playing in yankees uniform.

Daja vu all over again.

Troll of 100 Names Alert!

The troll posted the above here as A.J. and on Pete's blog as DepressedYankeesFan.

Where else did you post the same freaking entry, troll? And why?

The rest of baseball will assuredly take notice this spring. The Yankees have young pitching depth unlike anything I can recall in all my years as a Yankee fan.

Not sure how a fan can be anything but optimistic.

Ignore Paul from Yankees vs Sox Fan website posing as yankees Fan. He's actually as Redsox Fan. B*tch Owned.>>>>

Paul: You're right I can't think of anytime since Bouton,Downing,Stottlemyre in that order that the Yanks had such young pitching depth...let's hope that at least 3 starters make it big w/NY!

Why is there another A.J posting? Can't you come up with something original? I have been here way longer than you buddy posting as AJ. Change it or post elsewhere.

Mines is Aj and yours is AJ with captial

People still get it confused my dude. They assume maybe I forgot to Caps it. They will still think we are one person.

I can tell which is the real you AJ; it is easy to spot the troll of 1000 names. It posts here everyday as many different names using cut and paste, touting its Red Sox players ad nauseum, with the faux Balki broken English.

The funny thing is each time I out it, it claims I am a Red Sox fan and some other person with the name Paul.

You can tell the troll since each time it types its name it is different unlike the rest of us who use the same name each time we post as it is saved on the computer.

I am an x employee from the security dept.Randy Baker runs his staff like the military. The fans spend so much money and are expected to be treated kindly.Instead they are treated rudely, spoken to as if they are children and embarrased in front of other fans. The stadium is not a fan friendy place to go to.The security staff is a reflection of there leader Randy Baker. You are told you are not allowed to get pictures or autographs or else you will be fired, but Randy Baker and other members of his staff get them all the time.I could go into alot more reasons about the way things are run there but I think this is a good start for now.Nice job Randy.

i'm just going to go ahead and agree with the above comment. i'm also an ex-employee. going into details would be pointless, but everything the person above me said is 100% true. we weren't allowed to get autographs, but randy could (he'd pull the players into his office in the tunnel so that he'd be off camera). he'll belittle fans. he's incredibly sarcastic. the only thing to do with the guy is kiss his ass. the media cannot stand him -- sportswriters have told me personally that they'll write about anything they can that'll make him look bad.

oh, and i'm not sure how many people read about mr. baker signing autographs last spring at an away game. he got into a boatload of crap with the boss on that one...
