Carl Pavano sought out Mike Mussina and they spoke for 11 minutes behind closed doors this afternoon. Both emerged feeling good about the situation (with no obvious bruises or black eyes). Mussina said he apologized for talking about it to reporters before bringing it to Pavano, but he certainly did not apologize for his opinion. Pavano said he told Mussina that he realizes he has let everyone down and is looking forward to starting anew. And Mussina definitely sounded sincere when he said the conversation helped matters.

It will be interesting when the position players arrive. Maybe they should just give Carl a rookie hazing (a gentle one so he doesn't get hurt) and be done with it. Prediction: Pavano will win 4 games this season (for somebody).
Hey Jim A,
You're putting too much pressure on the poor guy...I say he'll win just about 2, rehab starts that is...
You know what, I'm glad Pavano did that. That moves him up a notch in my book.
As much as I like to make fun of him, eventually we all need to realize that a healthy Pavano is a huge asset to this team, and maybe he truely does want to return and make amends.
Well he is right. Mike should have talked to his co-worker 1st before going to the media. Mike has been around for a few years. He knows this AIN'T the Yankees Way. & when did Mike become the voice of the yankees. I don't remember him being given the title of Captain or Manager. Though, I agree with mike. It is not his job to bash his teamate in the press.
& By the way mike. Next time your team give you a lead in a playoff game. trying keeping that lead. To quote a Voice of The Yankees " HOW ABOUT THAT"
Pavano used to play for the Yanks years ago but he went under the name ED WHITSON then.
Haven't been around in a while guys, been taking some exams during this hectic week...anyways, so, based on the first day of workouts, I see both Sanchez and Hughes in the fourth and fifth spot by the end of August. I refuse to trust Igawa and Carla...Igawa's wild(just making fun of first day) and carla...well...u guys know haha. But honestly, those two are gonna be in there. If we do not see at least one of those two, I'm willing to cut the most important player from my fantasy team, in a bet of course. so, anybody want to take me up on this???
I say Yankees should release Mike myers . I hate his guts. He's snake and relaying some infomation to his former teamates Redsox. Myers who falls flat on his face when he faces against his former team Bosawx. He loses his concentration and edge on the mound. He nibbles alot in strikezone and tried to hit batters on purpose when He hits a former teammate Doug Mirabelli and gave up a winning run. He also gave up a winning homerun to David Ortiz. I still don't trust Mike myers in a big spot against Boston, If I were Cashman I will place Igawa in that role and be lefty specialist for the Yankees. Second, I would called up Hughes or Sanchez as fifth starter.

Sorry about that...JD,
i agree with you buddy in terms of Mike Myers being a waste...I've been saying that for weeks, Igawa should be the lefty out of the pen, and one of our youngsters shold just fill that 5th slot up...
Mussina's comments were public knowledge. Why should he seek out "the invisible man". I would guess it was very difficult for Mussina to converse with a teammate he has lost all respect for. Once everyone is in camp, Pavano should address the entire squad, and hopefully ride off into the sunset.
Whatever ones feelings are about Pavano teammates shouldn't use the press/media to take shots at one another. This has always been considered a no-no in team sports....maybe Mussina will do his part this season by being lights out in the postseason, instead of giving up leads and being hohum about it to the press after the game....anyway they went behind close doors to straighten things out which is the responsible approach...on to the next bump in the road...
I know Carl has been very light on the production side of things since becoming a Yankee. However, he has done lots of work this winter to get ready. Let's hope that he has learned from his mistakes and will move forward. Who here has not made a mistake? The Yankees definitely need Carl or Kei to come through. Imagine if they both do and then we get the Rocket! Wouldn't we all want to have to struggle to say who goes to the pen when Roger arrives?
Charlie
If both Pavano and Igawa came through, then, we wouldn't need Clemens, unless another pitcher was injured or wasn’t pitching well at all. But chances are happening are slim to none!
Charlie,
I agree with Pavano before we disgard. He should be given every opt to succeed. But taking your comment about mistakes, I'd say he's been a 20 million dollar bunch of mistakes. I have gotten alot thrown at me for far less.
hmmm.

And you think WE have inury issues with our starting pitchers?
Are Kerry and Carl - Kissin Cousins?????
dave:
i have to disagree with you on igawa.the yanks did not spend a ton of money to put him in the bullpen.he is going to be our 5th starter until he proves he cant make it.i think he will do well the first time around being that nobody has faced him.what he does the second time around will tell us if he is for real or not.
I agree... I think Igawa should be given the chance at the 4/5 spot in this rotation... besides the money, he was the strikeout king in Japan just a season or 2 ago, and i love the effort he's put in thus far in camp. he seems to have a great attitude and work ethic, and i'm looking forward to seeing him in action.
moose was only doing what ball-less torre should of been doing.
Baseball Dad & Ruse, these 'threads' move along so quickly that by the time I normally get a chance to comment (from a different time zone), we've already gone on to two or three new ones. I left a note for you both in "Breaking News Here in Tampa" in case you're interested. Have a good one.
Yanks61: thanks for the reminiscences, well the 61 Yanks did win a fair amount of come from behind victories,Luis Arroyo won 15 games in relief which meant he would often enter the 7th inning of a tie game ,pitch 2-3 innings and once the Yanks went ahead be rewarded with a win.He was something of a vulture. The Yanks were 34-5 in games Whitey started !
Pavano- I thought you would be the one when you joined the team. This should be your year! You are due! Mussina, Pettite & Pavano should be a great combo! Stay healthy! Glad Johnson is gone, Should have never been a Yankee and gone is where he should be after giving Jorge such a hard time. What is up with Cashman going after everyone after they have peaked? Pavano has not peaked yet. Make this your year! Pettite has earned his spot in the heart of the team! Welcome back. Please help bring it home this year! Now we just need Bernie back.
