I know we have a lot of anti-Joe Torre people on this blog, so you might want to chew on this: Torre said Sunday that he spoke with The Boss on Saturday and Steinbrenner gave him nothing but support. So if you’re a proponent of firing Joe, you might want to move on to hoping for something else, it seems.

I'm trying not to give up on this season completely but I'm turning my attention to bright spots in the minors:
Andy Phillips .324 7 HR
Shelley Duncan .323 11 HR
Chris Britton ERA 1.08
At AA Trenton:
Jeffrey Marquez 5-2 2.06
Brett Smith 3-1 1.22
At Tampa (High class A):
Frankie Cervelli ( a Catcher !) .347
Ian Kennedy (our 1st round draft choice in 2006):
4-1 1.43 47 in 44 innings
So Torre is definitely going after the season anyway. Either way there will be a new manager very soon. Get ready Girardi!
Au contraire Kat, most of the people here are Torre-loving idiots.
Only me and a handful of sensible people here want Torre to get fired.
The other idiots here will make up all these excuses as to why it's not Torre's fault.
Guys, when a team loses, of course the pitching or the hitting or the fielding or a combination of all three will be bad.
But in some cases, these are just the symptoms not necessarily the cause.
Torre just plain mismanages (some of the most boneheaded moves one can imagine, e.g. removing a pitcher who's doing fine early in a game only to have an already tired bullpen blow the lead or bat Mientkiewicz second or a plethora of other insane moves) and just plain doesn't motivate or provide some kind of stimuli to a sullen team.
Everyone especially players on the team don't want Torre to go for personal and emotional reasons, but they've got to realize that sometimes the best thing is to let go of the past and move on.
Those four rings were very nice and that stretch of division titles were special and we will all cherish them but the time has come to move on.
Torre is no longer the same manager as he was ten years ago or even five years ago.
You can see it in him and the things he does.
It would just be better for everyone if he left gracefully last year but no, instead now he is both an embarrassment to himself and to the baseball world.
I meant Anthony, not Kat above. ;)
Btw, if they don't fire Torre, you can bet I'll be rooting AGAINST the Yankees the rest of the way.
As much as it hurts me to see them lose, sometimes you want to see them hurting just so they will realize what kind of mistake they are making.
Why does every "reporter" on Newsday hate the Yankees?
Joey,
I just think it is a confusing time for everyone, writers, fans, radio people, everyone is at each other's throats ... let there be peace and let the best character of the team come out.
ZANDER
Ian Kennedy won again today
He's now 5-1
8 starts
51 innings
32 hits
56 SO
1.24 ERA
This once again proves that Steinbrenner just isn't the man he used to be. He used to want to win at all costs.
I will continue to hope that the Boss will once again be the Boss and jettison the dead weight that is currently managing the Yankees.
I know this will out me as a crone but if Clippard is as young as he looks I have scarves older than our starting pitcher.
Back to back doubles and we can't score 1 run?!?!?!?
Wow. Sucks to be the Boss and shelling out $220 million and be accused by brilliant bloggers of not 'wanting to win at all costs.' That's special.
Great line Diane. Then again Clippard looks like he is 9 so you may be safe inside the crone closet!
As a Mets fan, rather than gloat, I will remind Yankees fans of 1999 when the Mets rolled into Yankee Stadium reeling, Bobby V on the hot seat, and lost the first two. They squeezed out the 3rd game and never looked back, winning 96 games and a Wild Card. So you never know.
Columbus, may I just say that both the Mets fans that I know well have HEROICALLY contained any joyful gloats, and one was even magnanimous enough to sympathize quite sincerely as having 'been there and know just how it feels'. Giving a clinic in class. You're in good company.
Sweet Diane
Re-Clippard
I'm enjoying our apparent signing of Napoleon Dynamite if he continues to shut down "THE KINGS" of New York I'll even let him stay...
Operation Kerrigan has experienced some unforseen setbacks...AGENTS STAND DOWN-Until further notified.

Ten-four.
A few observations.
Clippard has a lot of guts and is a keeper for sure.
Jeter is clutch. I thought I would trade him for Reyes, but now, no way.
What is with Reyes with the tatoos on his left arm. Tatoos = follower, sorry. Great player though.
Posada ... an all time great Yankee. Remember Mickey Mantle eating on the bus with Elston Howard? Very good man, didn't he have a baby or child who was very ill? He is coming into his own. I could not be more proud of him. Wasn't he signed as a 2B?
Damon = not the guy we knew with the Red Sox.
Maine = Omaar is a genius, how many bagain basement pickups, Cash Man should be ashamed? Cashman is like a drunk teenaged girl with her daddy's credit card. Sorry. But it is all I can think of.
Maine = why throw all these 84 pitches, 3 of 4 when you can throw 93 and place it?
Torre = looks very very unhappy on the bench, no fun and having seen many around the world die, and my beloved parents die, I can see in his eyes, that he is very sad. He needs our love and support. I have never had a brother ... and watching his brother be so sick must be very hard for him.
Criticizing JT at this point is just not ... how does one say it ... it is not proper in a way ... because he is pulled in two directions, both of them with a force we mortals can't understand.
Using Torre's brother as an excuse for his lack of fire, passion, and motivation is rediculous. If one cant continue due to problems they, ought to take a leave of absence. Life sucks and isnt fair, but it isnt fair to Yankee fans to continue at his current pace either. Every body has a job to do and u arent doing it u ought to and should get fired.
Maine wasn't a bargain baseman pickup he came in a trade w/Jorge Julio for Kris Benson.
Wang-Hughes-Clippard-Kennedy-Chamberlain as well as several others.
The future of our rotation looks good.
QUOTE mandurro - from Sosh Boards
This Mets staff today is waking up the MFY offense right before we come to town mad.gif
Don't worry. Wakefield will put them right back into an offensive funk.
Anthony
Can you please remind us all again how you've been on the front lines of all this death and world tragedy?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL US ABOUT ONE OF YOUR TRIPS TO THE KILLING FIELDS!!
TELL US EVERYTHING ALL YOU SAW EVEN THAT WHICH YOU THINK MAY MAKE US FEEL UNSETTLED PLEASE THE SUSPENCE IS UNBEARABLE!!
It was cool for a while but constantly relating everything you say about the yankees to something like "having seen so many around the world die..."
CRY ME A RIVER AND ONE THAT RUNS DIRECTLY TO YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR THERAPIST
NOT ALL OF US GO TO OUR FAVORITE SPORTS TEAMS WEBLOG TO BE REMINDED OF ALL THAT IS HORRIBLE UGLY AND WRONG WITH THE PLANET AND HUMANITY LIGHTEN THE PHUCK UP MAN!!
ACL,
I got 2 tattoos!!
Fox 5, Duke Castliogne said Yankees doesn't have good bullpen depth and they lack fresh arms to replaced tired arms.
Also, He said Yankees doesn't enough starting pitching to compete for the Wildcard
MICHAEL PTRS
I concur .
So the genius in charge is now going to try to void Giambis contract. Lets see, Ive heard that threat from the Yankees about 20 times. In the history of baseball about "zero" contracts have ever been voided. So there is great precedaent for that to happen. But Cashman is smarter than everyone else, he'll have no objections from the union that never loses a dispute and Im sure no one in the organization had the slightest idea at the time he was doing it! Can you say complicity?
Ruse
Our boy Clippard looked alright tonight!!
I especially loved his confidence and how he dealt with Reyes:)
I think the kid has big B@lls. His debut against the "world beaters" that are the "mets" AT SHEA!!!!-This was a nice game and a necessary reprieve for some of us and maybe some of our boys.
PS...
Jeter is and will always be THE MAN(obvious)
PHUCKER
Clippard showed good command of 4 pitches. He could be a very good #3 starter. We'll see.
1 oddball move is Torre letting Proctor go 2 which makes him unavailable in tmrws game .
Ruse
With that I will "concur" I'd rather have Proctor tomorrow than Kyle...Especially when we had the lead we had? Makes no sense I hope Joe's not as stupid as he sometimes looks.
NUDGE
COMPLICITY
that is because like I stated George knows Torre's mInd is not right and needs the team to help his mental , add to the fact that he has support in Torre from wha t I heard lately is zoning in on Cashman. Torre may survive the season but may not be renewed. Honestly my feelings for torre softned watching this series. I still feel he needs to get in these players souls maybe he did.
I'm worried that Ok Torre stays but pulls the same lame crap knowing his season is secured. Steinbrenner should have gotten in his a** but still gave him support. Brain Cashman is seems may be the intended Target.
As a Red Sox Fan I don't want to see Joe Go..He's a great man who won when he had homegrown talent..But He hasn't won in 7yrs with the best talent money can buy and I like it just the way it is...Joe Giradi might actually fire the Yankees up and heaven forbid (and our 9 game lead) if the Yankees actually played for up to their potential and paychecks...Lastly if Torre was in Boston he would have been long gone after the 2004 ALCS fiasco...Keep Joe and the status Quo...
Uh, bospat, do you seriously think anyone here gives a sh*t?
