Meeting time

The Yankees held a looong meeting today. MLB rules stipulate that they can only close the clubhouse to the media during certain hours on very rare occasions. This was one. They met for about 50-55 minutes. No one was talking on what the main message was, but maybe later. We had no clubhouse access after the meeting, b/c they went straight into BP.

Lineup:

Yankees
Damon CF
Jeter SS
Matsui DH
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Cano 2B
Abreu RF
Cabrera LF
Mientkiewicz 1B

DeSalvo P

Blue Jays
Rios RF
Overbay 1B
Wells CF
Glaus 3B
Thomas DH
Hill 2B
Lind LF
Phillips C
Clayton SS

Dustin McGowan P

These "clubhouse meetings" are a waste of time. Unless one is held to announce to the players that Torre has been "canned", it is just a 50-55 minute "bull session". Teams usually "can" a Mgr. on the road. At least the venue is right.

I wonder if any furniture was thrown during the meeting.

Please get Matsui out of the #3 spot. Please!!

The meeting had a profound affect on the team. They are heading in the right direction! 200 million payroll and 3 big hits, so far.

Roy

The Boss has stated that Torre is safe, but Cashman is the one on the hook. So, if anyone gets canned, look for it to be Cashman. In my opinion, they both need to be replaced ASAP!

I think McGowan should be the Cy Young winner. He has dominated the most potent offense in all of baseball.

Rick: Apparently the resumes of Yankees are loaded with stats of the highest acclaim but these resumes lack the energy and pride to get it going. No way should most of the pitchers not subcomb to the lineup after 85+ pitches. It takes 117 pitches before Matsui puts some hurt on McGowan. Makes you wonder about Torre's 85-100 pitch counts. No wonder the bullpen sucks. We don't have a bridge to Mariano. Its more like route 66.

Larry, that's a great point. The resumes shine but the players are dull. We need a manager who can select players with intuition and common sense, in addition to looking at their numbers. While the numbers are important, it takes something more to pick the winners over the losers. We just seem to be picking the losers since Cashman took over. I've been saying all along, I think the problem with the Yankees starts in the front office (where they keep selecting too many duds).

I agree! Torre babies the whole team like a bunch of spoiled little sissys. When you set the bar low, that is exactly what you will get.

Rick,
They ARE a bunch of spoiled sissies. I think this team is very mentally weak, with a few exceptions: Jeter, Pettitte, Posada and maybe Wang, I just can't tell though.
Other than that you have Abreu who has a look of doom on his face as soon as the first strike is called on him; Damon has looked at the standings and given up; Cano is a mess; and Mussina finds all the excuses he can to lose. There are some who I'm not sure about like Matsui, who seems to rise to the occasion but may have started doubting himself since his injury last year; Giambi is just a roller coaster guy at this point, up and down all the time; A-Rod- Well, I don't know what's going on in his head, but confidence is everything for him and when he doesn't have it, it shows.

Good to see you back btw.

I also agree that Torre babies the team. I bet most of them were lulled to sleep as Torre's uninspired talk bored the team. We need a kick-butt manager to wake up and spark this team. The Yankees have the team that can win. We just need a new captain at the helm to steer them in the right direction. Firing Cashman is not the answer and will not wake up the team. It's firing the manager that will do that.

Lucy: Just think of all the first baseman that could have been signed by Cashman. Now, I truly believe Doug M. could turn it around but the guy that got away was Erstad. He can play a decent CF and first base plus hit. Cashman has made some very poor decisions of signings over the winter. As far as Joe T., I would hope the team would pick it up and he not get fired. But think back to the way that he hung with Jared Wright through his 100 pitch 4 innings last year. The kids throw 75 or 80 pitches and he takes them out. How can you built character with the trial and the error. Sure its the worst way to learn but in athletics its the only way to learn. Falter and learn. Be smarter the next time.

alex has thrown this team out of balance he has been nothing but a drain on this team. the big question now is how do u get rid of him and start rebuilding the tean . i know how but ,i dont have the support. gary 1957
