On to the Angels

The Yankees are done playing the Mets and Red Sox for now (but not for long). But the Angels, who come to town this weekend, shouldn't be overlooked by anybody. The Angels have won the season series against the Yankees each of the past three seasons. Of course, they also eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs in 2005.

Comments (80)

Let's see:
The Angels are batting .274 with 32 HRs as a team.

They have a staff ERA of 3.54 witha 2 to 1 k/bb ratio and opp. avg. pf .252

We definitely cannot overlook them, then again until we start winning consistently the Yankees cannot overlook ANYONE.

BREAKING NEWS: alex rodriguez changes his name...

NEW YORK. Due to the major media attention given to everything that has an Alex Rodriguez signature on, the 31 year old baseball player has decided tochange his nama to some other less media appealing, he explains: "I'm tired of all the bull surrounding everything I do or say, apparently Alex Rodriguez can do nothing right and in order to succeed in my career I can't carry a jinxy name, that's what has driven me to my decision".

The New York Yankees third baseman says that he no longer will provide ESPN people their "daily portion of controversy", this decision comes right after a hard slide to break a doubleplay versus the Boston Red Sox, but the slugger says "I've been thinking about it for a couple of months now,and I finally reached a decision".

Although he didn't mention which name he plans to adopt, he kiddingly said: "I'm open to suggestions". We just hope that this new name stops all the media frenzy and people decide to give this guy a break, because whatever his name we can only think about him as the most talented person to ever play the game of baseball...

Any suggestions for A-Rod guys?

Sigh ...

In the macro ...

Let him suffer for even one day like the farmers in Zimbabwe or South Africa.

Let him visit the Karen in Burma, or the Hmong in their refugee camps ...

Send him to the Chinese laogai.

And then just see how fast he shapes up.

We all can lose focus of the bigger picture ...

It must be hard to be A-Rod ... all the media fame and the money ... it takes us away from God.

The flesh is not our soul.

The world is not our home.

The peace he extended to Dustin P. saying in effect, "I was a shortstop once" was very nice in a way ...

The media will always look for the ugly. Let his light shine, as a believer is commanded to.

Just my two cents

To me, the Halos are every bit as tough an opponet as the Red Sox are. They aren't hitting as much, but their pitching is really good. Jared Weaver is a solid pitcher and he handed it to us last season. We all know how great "Vlad the Impaler" is, but the 3 guys in that lineup that I really fear are Cabrerra, Kendrick and Anderson. Kendrick feasts on our pitching and Cabrerra and Anderson always get the big hit against us!
If we can take 2 out of 3 from them, I'll start to have the "warm and fuzzies" a wee bit more about us.
Why is it that we always get these guys after a Boston series? Last season when we took the 5 games at Fenway, we went out to Anaheim and lost 2 out of 3!

Former Yankees Pitcher Aaron Small announces his retirement
http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ny-spsmall0518,0,1505062.story?coll=ny-baseball-headlines

Small, famous for his almost improbable 10-0 record during the 2005 season, confirmed his retirement from baseball Thursday morning in a telephone interview from his five-acre farm in Loudon, Tenn.

Small, who had a 3.20 ERA during the 2005 season, was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1989 first-year player Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. However, it would take 16 years for Small to make his most notable contribution to professional baseball.

He received a 2007 spring training invitation from the Mariners and despite suffering from nagging back injuries, was invited to begin the season with the team's AAA affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers.

"The Mariners asked me to go to Tacoma, but I didn't feel like it was right," Small said. "I did a lot of praying about it and felt like God was leading me to [retire]. I'm at 100 percent peace with my decision and haven't looked back since."

After confiding in his immediate family and close relatives, Small said he's ready for life after baseball.

"I'm just a regular guy," Small said. "I just love being with my family and since [leaving Seattle] I've been ready to fade off and go into the next phase of my life."
Thanks for an amazing 2005 season, Aaron Small!

Any truth to the Helton to the Yankees rumors? Heard it tonight on sports radio.

Trade brewing?
May 24 - According to scouts, the Yankees have expressed interest in Rockies first baseman Todd Helton and closer Brian Fuentes, the Denver Post reports. No deal is imminent at the moment.

Are Yankees playing Team La Satan tonight??

I mean Artie Moreno looks like Lucifer.. Angels color supposed to be blue, How come it's red ?

Zander:

When I responded to your question about Yankees blogs [at the end of the 'Lineup for Yankees-Red Sox' thread] I was dashing off bits of the list between innings and left off a couple:

Bronx Banter -- Alex Belthy of the Journal News, and Replacement Level Yankees Weblog. Both of these are well written and well run, with a healthy number of commenters and little to no troll action.

Most of the blogs I listed before, as well as these, have long lists of other blogs to try.

The Yankees can make a statement with the 3 game series vs. the Angels. Gaining a game here are there is the approach to use. They won't make up 9.5 games overnight but chipping away can see Boston doing a cold sweat by the All Star break. Just play smart heads up Yankee baseball. Winning breeds confidence.

Are the Angels the only team to have a winning record over the Yankees? Is this over all or just in the last three years? Does anybody know the history?

If this dominance in winning percentage has existed only for the last three seasons, we can put an end to it now. This is a season where the Yankees find themselves in a tables turned situation compared to the Red Sox and the Mets. It's time for the Yankees to turn the same table on the Angels. The Angels may not come in with the same fire as previous years (considering our record), and the Yankees may now be taking the Angels more seriously (considering past dominance and the NEED to win NOW).

I wouldn't be surprised to see a change in this series. I believe the Yankees can take two of three if they can continue with the same momentum that started in the latter part of the second game vs. the Mets going forward. If our pitching holds up with Clippard and Wang (followed by Mr. Uh-oh Mussina), we can take two of three.

Where's Arod in Jeter Turn 2 Foundation dinner last night?

Bobby Abreu, Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui, Wil Nieves and Scott Proctor were among those who donned their formal wear and joined the audience in applauding the foundation's efforts.

"When Derek has a foundation like this, you want to support that," Nieves said. "We wanted to show that we care and represent the team to come to an event like this, and it's very important. I consider it an honor just to be behind it and to support it."

From today's NY Post:
With Tom Gordon on the DL and Brett Myers undergoing an MRI on his right arm yesterday, the Phillies, who already had a shaky bullpen, could be in the market for a reliever. During spring training, they had an interest in Kyle Farnsworth but that cooled. That could rekindle if Myers is hurt. The Yankees likely would listen to an offer for Farnsworth, who has allowed 28 baserunners (17 hits; 11 walks) in 181/3 innings. Farnsworth also spoke out against Clemens being allowed to come and go under the terms of his new contract. Farnsworth makes $5.25 million this year and $5.50 million next year which is rich for the Phillies, who might be willing to move catcher Rod Barajas. . . . A Yankees official denied the team had an interest in Rockies left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes and first baseman Todd Helton . They were linked to the Yankees in a published report.

Yankees should trade Farnsworth to my beloved Red Sux for either Tavarez or Lester. I am also a big dummie.

Comments on recent threads have indicated that Mets fans imagine NYY fans will convert to Mets fans as a result of the recent improvement in the Mets' record, public image and level of fan support.

This strikes NYY fans as distinctly odd. The idea that you change teams because of a successful or unsuccessful season is foreign to most of us.

But the Mets are a very recent creation in terms of baseball history. Most of the fans they have must have been converts from other teams, or people who were newly interested in the sport with no previous allegiances. A lot of them apparently were old abandoned Dodgers or Giants fans [or their children], with a history of opposing the Yankees and no place to go after their teams left NYC.

To us their notion that fans skip from team to team as a result of recent results seems bizarre. But remember that these fans have no long history to which to be attached. It is not an insult in their minds to intimate that a fan might migrate from team to team. They don't know anything else.

Watching the Angels play the Tigers yesterday (on MLB.com), they really didn't look "hot" when they lost 12-zip. In fact, Angels pitchers have given up 20 runs in 2 games.

Welcome to the Bronx, fellas.

I have liked the Red Sux since 2004. Before that, I rooted for other teams.

Diane,

I think that the fans that poster was referencing are the same ones who only became Yankee fans in 1996. There were a lot of these so called fans who jumped onto the Met bandwagon in 1986 and then back to the Yankees ten years later. There was a guy I knew in college, we used to call him the walking box score, because all you needed to do was look at the hat he was wearing to know which team was in first place at the time. He was as consistent as the flags ringing the stadium.

Helton's contract is 16.6 million .He's 33 years old .He's hitting 100 points higher vs. righties than lefties .394 -.286 .This year he's hitting .360 at home and .360 on the road.Lifetime at Coors .370.
Fuentes is making 3.5 million and is an outstanding lefty reliever.
Reports don't indicate who the Yanks are shopping around.Wonder why ?

Phillies are hell bent on destroying Bret Myers arm .A starter his whole career suddenly thrust into the closer role ,what a way to jeopardize one of the better young NL pitchers.
Once Ryan Howard returns from the DL friday, the Phils will have to clear a roster spot.I see they recalled Chris Coste C-1B now they are carrying 3 catchers.
It's only a matter of time until Fartsworth is moved.

The Yankees are going to make a statement this weekend! Unfortunately the statement is going to be: "We Suck".

While we get swept this weekend by the Angels. Boston will be handing a sweep to Texas. then a sweep to Cleveland at Fenway (just to show them whose boss at Fenway, like they did to Detroit 3 out of 4) and then our sad state of affairs team limps into to Fenway to get swept again. Most likely Clemens will be welcomed back to the AL East on Sunday with a whoop'in. (hey their AA team gave him a hard time what makes you think the Sox aren't going to eat him for dinner?)

While the Sox go 9-0 during the next couple of weeks and we maybe go 1-8 (one win in Toronto). I'd say you can wrap it up for the year and any chance of a wildcard birth! That will be 40-15: Red Sox and 22-32 for Yanks. We will be at the lowest of the lows for the season!

Ruse,

How would this grab you:

Farnsworth, Villone, Brett Gardner, Alan Horne & Anthony Clagget for Barajas and Aaron Rowand.

From the Phillies perspective they are adding arms to their pen in Farnsworth and Villone and dealing from positions of strength in giving up Barajas (2.5 mil) and Rowand (4.8 mil) the move allows Philly to move Victorino to CF and play Michael Bourn in RF and they'll have Coste to back up Ruiz.

For the Yankees, Barajas is an upgrade over Nieves and Rowand can either be spun, or depending on the situation with Giambi's foot, the Yankees could play Jason at first DH Matsui, and upgrade their defense in left with Rowand.

No way the Phillies trade Rowand.
Bourn makes a lot of sense ,he's the fastest player in the Phillies org.but it remains to be seen if he can hit.
Gardner and Fartsworth for Bourn and Barajas makes sense.Villone ?

ruse,
That would make sense - though I imagine the Phillies would insist on the Yankees either a) eating the remaining 5 mil on Farnsworth's contract for next season or b) taking back another contract - the only ones I found were Pat Burrell (not happening) or Wes Helms at 2.73 this year and next. The question becomes are Wes Helms, Bourn and Barajas, worth Villone, Farnsworth, Gardner and Phelps since Josh would have no role with Helms on the roster.

I wouldn't get too over confident about the fact that the Halos got blown out yesterday!
Remember last season when the O's cleaned our clocks then we went up to Fenway and swept the Sox?

Besides, Weaver's pitching for them tonight and he beat us 2x last season!

Angels are the only team in the AL to have a winning record against the Yankees during Torre's tenure with the club - and that doesn't count the playoffs where the Angels have beaten the Yankees twice.

Barajas would be a great pick up for the Yanks...but are the Phils intersted in Farnsworth...or are you just speculating?

Helms/Nunez share 3b w/ both getting time as pinchhitters and Helms occasionally playing 1B.Helms is a versatile player.I may be wrong but I don't see the Phils giving up position players outside of maybe Barajas for pitching. They're not getting any production from Howard/Burrell and have no up and coming hitting prospects to speak of so the 1 commodity is Barajas and a throw in like Bourn.
Let's see if Molina is left behind when the Angels leave town. This is pure speculation.

I'd guess that it is plausible...the Phils DO need bp help..and farnsworth does have a live arm and may flourish in that atmosphere.

But first, Let me reiterate what an idiot I really am.

Any chance we can send Giambi to the Rockies for Helton? Maybe if we eat some of Giambi's contract? Anything we can do to get the deal done? THis would be great for the Yanks.

John,

There's no chance that Giambi is going to Colorado for 2 reasons:
1. He's a lousy 1B which is why he's DHing for us.
2. He has a full no trade clause in his contract.

Hopefully he can get it going because the Yanks need his bat in the lineup.
Without him producing, there's no protection for A-Rod.

Did any of you guys here about Steinbrenner's interview with AP?

You guys are nuts if you think a "set up" man who throws 95+, and has "closer" experience, is worth a "back up" catcher. Philly will jump at that deal. If the "back up" is under 25, and "earmarked" to replace Posada, I would consider it. But no way Barajas. If Posada was hurt, and we were "over a barrel", maybe. Currently, absolutely not. Ridiculous.

Roy, so you are recommending that we wait until Posada is hurt or worn out, and we are 'over a barrel', to try to get an upgrade over Nieves? Wouldn't that put us in a rather weak position?

I dont get all the nonsense on Giambi rumored to being traded.

As many other up to date and well-informed bloggers have previously mentioned, Giambi has no trade clause and wants to only stay in NY.

Plus, there isn't a dumb enough team to take him! He's on the downside of his career, 36 years old with numerous injuries, involved in HGH mess, and hasn't necessarly been productive this year for Yanks.

Why would any team want hmi? Colorado wont give up Helton for him (Helton also has no trade clause, too). Why would Angels get rid of Figgins, Moligna or anyone else for that matter for Giambi?

Giambi rumored to being traded is about as much of a dead issue as Pavano's next start for Yanks.

Miguel,

I like that Giambi Pavano anology.

That was my post Miguel.

JOHN G.

It was my hope Giambi would have a great year. I figured his ailments were behind him and he'd post good numbers. Now I'm not so sure.
He always fades as the season progresses and like we've seen time and time again is good for an occasional solo shot usually early in a game then somehow disappears.
It's unfortunate the Yanks are stuck w/ his contract, but you make your bed you sleep in it !

Observer,

Speculation in Barajas was from a mention in today's NYPost that hinted there could be a need for Farnswoth in Philly and that with Carlos Ruiz playing well the Phillies might be looking to move Barajas.

on another note, the words of the boss himself, not a PR man:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2882684

In spite of Roy's objections....I think Barajas would be a plausible backup/tandem with Posada...I know I would rather have him than Beerbeli on the Sox. How 'bout the Sox get Brajas and release oh fat one and you guys can pick him up?

And just a little bit of minor league news, the Yankees signed former Expo and Met RP Scott Strickland to a minor league contract as well as former Met and Blue Jay Pete Walker.

By the way, knuckle-dragger,

You naughty little wanna-be....I must say I'm impressed.....I had no idea you could spell and use the word "reiterate" properly.

Well done!

Observer, we could do that but the question is, who are you going to trade to the Yankees in three weeks when you want Mirabelli back to catch the knuckler? How about Kotteras and Hansen? Just busting some chops, no arrogance intended.

LMAO...

Good one Chip...touche`

Honestly,

I dont know why Wakes has to have his owm catcher....Tek can catch him fine...if I were the Sox I'd have Koteras upm and being groomed by the master..and let him catch one day a week...but I suppose they want him to play everyday.

Not to mention...if I were making the decision....I'd have Wakes as the long guy out of the pen...and I'd start Snyder until Lester returns.

I give Theo credit for admitting that he reacted too quickly when making the Meredith/Bard for Mirabelli trade. What he should have done is had Bard catch someone else, Beckett maybe, and let Varitek catch Wakefield - fact is I'm not entirely sure why they traded Shoppach in the first place though so what the hell.

I don't think they want to destroy Kotteras by having him catch Wakefield and giving him his own catcher builds in an automatic off day for Varitek, sort of like how Javy Lopez knew that he was going to get a day off whenever Maddux pitched.

Here's the link to the Steinbrenner story if anyone is interested:
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6850076

I agree Ruse. I expected a lot more from Giambalco this season, especially since he had the surgery on his wrist.
Ever since this guy stopped juicing, he's been hurt. it's always something.

Cas,
WHAT??? Are you kidding?
There's NO WAY that Veritek can handle the knuckler!!!

I know that you don't like Mirabelli, but he does a great job catching Wakefield.

As far as having Wakefield be the long man out of the pen: I wouldn't do that because it would me that Francona has to take Veritek out of the game.

Isn't Tavaras going back to the pen when Lester returns? Did you read something different?

Ruse:

So Helton is 33, makes 16 mil and doesn't hit lefties? That fits right in with our preferred profile!

Diane:

Thanks for the info on other blogs. Found an interesting tidbit from something called TopProspectAlert.com. It rates the top 10 prospects for all MLB teams.
NYY:
1. Phil Hughes
2. Jose Tabata
3. Ian Kennedy
4. Brett Smith
5. Joba Chamberlain
6. Tyler Clippard
7. Chase Wright
8. Jeff Marquez
9. Dellin Betances
10.Alan Horne

Note that 9 of the 10 are pitchers.

Of course, "TopProspect Alert" might be some guy working by himself out of his mother's basement.

Quote from one of the NY columnists, comparing Torre and Piniella:

"Joe Torre's old cow demeanor has begun to serve as a safe and effective sleeping aid."

Yes Chip,

Theo's two biggest blunders were the trade of Bard, who I think is going to be a good catcher in MLB for the next 10 years....and, signing Renteria in the first place.

I wouldnt have Kotteras catching Wakes....I'd have Tek catch him....if they called the kid up...let him catch a guy like Snyder or Tavares..whoever is the number 5....Tavares doesnt have a large pitch selection to choose from...so in terms of calling the game, it would be a bit easier for him. I would not have him catch Beckett just yet....Beckett needs Tek to keep him on his game. No to Dice-K too...Schilling would be ok for a young catcher though.

Nieves didn't actually attend Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation dinner. He carried Derek's equipment bag to the hotel and then waited in the hallway.

John.

Yes...it's likely that tavares will return to the pen once Lester is back.

I disagree with you regarding Tek catching the knuckler...he is a far superior catcher defensively than Maribelli...is more agile and has had little problems catching Wakes in the past when he has caught him. Maribelli, to be fair, does do a good job of catching him...and he occasionally surprises me with a dinger...but he is mostly a liability.

My point was this...I think Kyle Snyder is on the verge of becoming the sort of pitcher he was slated to be when he was picked so high in the draft...

I think he would be more consistant than Wakes...has three great pitches, with tow other "ok" pitches....his hook is devastating, his splitter and gas are plus...his slider and change up are ok. He is finally healthy and I think could be a 15 game winner on a club like the Sox (or Yanks)....Wakes offers alot of versatility out of the pen...

It wont happen...but I wonder what if...

Steinbrenner has given a long interview with the AP.

On Cashman: "He wanted sole authority. Now he's got to deliver."

On Torre: "We are not considering a change."

On Giambi: "He should have kept his mouth shut."

Had kind words for Clemens, Pettitte and Mattingly.

ahhh...the wife has cocktails prepared and waiting on the deck....

time to be the dutiful hubby...have a good evening gang...good luck tonight against the Angels.

Cas,

I think when all is said and done you'll probably add JD Drew to that list with Renteria.

For backup catcher, we should pick up Alfred Molina. OK, he's 54 but he's a hell of a good actor. And he's a Molina!

Cas,

Has he (Tek) improved catching the knuckler?

The last time that I saw him catching Wakefield was game 5 2004. I saw a lot of passed balls.
Of course Wakefield struck out like what? 7 in a row so it didn't matter.

Anyway, I haven't seen him catch Wakefield since.

Right now, the Sox can afford to keep Mirabelli in the lineup. Everyone else is hitting. It probably will be a different story if you guys start slumping.

TRADE ALERT !!

The New York Yankees have announced that they have traded Alberto Gonzalez, a triple A infielder, to the Justice Department for Alberto Gonzalez, Attorney General. Both teams feel the trade will help them.

I thought it was amusing tht the Yanks ran on Wakefield this week, yet didn't do it during that playoff collapse. Torre continues to beg to be fired.

Breaking News Larry Lucchino announces will step down President of Redsox and Rosie Donnell as her replacement.. He will undergo sex change..

Roy,

I remeber that game well.
I was really upset with the fact that the Yanks were all trying to be heroes and hit a dinger. A few well placed base hits would have done the job.
To me, THAT game was the turning point of the series.

I don't agree with firing Torre though.

Zander:

Those prospect rankings are fun to read, especially if you've actually seen some of the young players -- as we've had the chance to do unusually often this year.

Diane:

During the All-Star break there is a "Futures" all-star game featuring the best minor league prospects. Last year Hughes and Tabata played. It was on TV.

ZANDER

You're at the top of your game today ! Alfred Molina does have great versatility as an actor but does it translate ? How about Angela Molina ?

Zander:

Minor league games are great to go to for a chance to see young talent. Until last year I used to get over to the Staten Island Yankees beautiful little gem of a ballpark with a view of the harbor. Saw some of the guys who are playing in the bigs now, and in a charming, comfortable setting, just down the streetfrom the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. YES sometimes shows their games as well as others of our minor league teams from time to time.

During the 80's and early 90's I had a vacation home west of Catskill, about 30 miles from Albany. The NYY had their AA minor league team at Albany-Colonie and I went to a lot of games. Saw future Yanks like Jim Leyritz, Henley "Bam Bam" Meulens, Scott Kamieniecki, Gerald (Ice) Williams, Pat Kelly, Andy Stankiewicz and lots of others. Does anybody go to Trenton or Scranton? Or even Staten Island?

Jayson Stark has compiled his 10 Most Under-rated and 10 Most Over-Rated players. Our own Mr. Abreu made #5 on the Over-rated list.

Money quote:

He lacks the all-important Derek Jeter gene. There's no voice in his head screaming This Ball HAS To Be Caught!

From Jon Heyman of SI.com:

Mark Teixeira will be traded this summer. And "there's little chance that Teixeira, a young superstar with no negatives, would be dealt without the Yankees making a play."

Ruse:

I'm at the top of my game today because I've hired Marty Miller as my performance enhancement coach and I'm also imbibing performance enhancing supplements.

Zander:

You leave us in considerable trepidation regarding your hamstrings.

Diane:

My hamstrings are good. I threw from halfway up a welcome mat today.

Buttocks not good. Probably headed for DL. That's the Dazed List.

Zander:

LOL!

Now off to watch the game while I'm in a cheerful mood!

I'm listening on L.A. radio. Anyone know the various TV packages for all or some Yankee games?

Hi, is there a Yankee fan out there who can stop counting rings for a second and tell me exactly when the Angels took took ownership of the Yankees? I must have missed it but I totally support halo ownership of the Bombers. Somewhere The Cowboy is smiling. And I was certain we would overlook the Yankees this weekend.

Zander, have you checked out MLB TV yet? Here is the link:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/mlbtv.jsp?partnerId=minisb

Biff, the word "ownership" is an extreme exaggeration, only used by Yankee antagonists because it sounds good to their ears. If winning a mere three more games over the course of 10 years is considered ownership, then so be it; but by the same token, the Yankees own every other team in the MLB. I can live with that.

Here is a comment I made in another thread here, but I think it belongs here as well:

Much to-do is made by the media concerning the Angels' "dominance" over the Yankees, since they are the ONLY team that boasts a winning record against us. The numbers are worthy of mention.

From 1996 (when Torre arrived) until 2006 (the last full season), the Angels' record has been 55-52. That's merely 3 more wins in the course of 10 years or one more win averaging every 3 1/3 years. If you add the two playoff wins in that period (which is all there is), it adds up to the Angels winning one game more than the Yankees an average of every two years.

Personally, I think the Yankees winning "dominance" over 28 other teams is more impressive than the Angels 10-year, three-game "dominance" over us (or four counting yesterday's win, but that's going into the 11th year). The fact that the wins are so scattered and that the Angels are in a different division makes these wins less significant. While the media is jumping up and down over these stats every time we play the Angels, I sure do hope the Yankees put these numbers in proper perspective.

Angels own the Yankees- Do your homework

Tim, do you consider "ownership" a baseball term that describes statistics where one team has more wins than another, and as soon as you have that one more win, you own the other team? Or is there some predefined time period necessary in order to assume full ownership? Not one baseball dictionary I consulted contained a definition for "ownership," so I'll assume ownership status is determined merely by one's opinion.

You see, Tim, I already did my homework as you can see by the stats I quoted, so now it's your turn to learn how to read in context and with accurate understanding. I said, and I'll repeat, if you consider 3 games in 10 years "ownership," so be it; then the Yankees own every other team in the MLB and I can live with that (did it gel this time around?) It's now 5 wins going into the 11th year, but this season isn't over yet and we have more games against the Angels, so the final number for the 11th year remains to be seen. The Yankees could possibly win the next 4, practically evening the numbers out.

However, Tim, the bottom line is that what you and I consider "ownership" differs and that's a matter of opinion (to which we are both entitled -- with or without doing any homework whatsoever). I don't consider 3 more wins in 107 games played over a 10-year period "ownership," which is a very strong word. But that's my OPINION, and you are certainly entitled to believe that the Angels own the Yankees, if that makes you feel better. In your case scenario, the thought of the Yankees owning 28 teams in the MLB sounds like a very fair trade-off. In that case, I have no trouble conceding to Angels' ownership, none whatsoever.
