rain delay

We're in a rain delay here. It's 8-5 Yankees with no outs in the top of the 6th.

Actually, we're about to go into the bottom of the 7th and the score is now Yankees 10, Mets 5. I'm loving it.

Get Farnsworth(less) off this team. That is all.

another typical beginning for Farnsworth

it just goes beyond words how much i despise farnsworth.

he came in against the no. 8 & 9 hitters, for the love of god!

we have potential down in triple a (britton, ramirez), and absolutely anyone is better than this garbage!

4 run lead and he keeps worrying about the runner

I cant watch the game but getting ESPN boxscore over the internet. Farnsworth is not trustworthy for the setup man. Thus we should trade him. I'm sure Proctor could get through the eighth inning with half the damage Farnsworth is giving up.

Cashman where are you? There is a troubling aspect to the two games with the Mets. They are manufacturing runs with little or no offensive production with steals off of walks and singles then a timely hit. Our pitchers need to adjust their motion to the plate if its possible at this stage of their career.

On another note, was Farnsworth booed. Diane if you can give a Bronx cheer to this bum for me.

Yeesssss, the Yankees won 11-8 -- although it was a real nail biter with Mariano giving up a bunch of puny ground balls that just found the wrong spots (one being Mo's shin). Thank God he's okay and got us through that inning. It appears he never gets the call for the third strike this season and then proceeds to give up a hit right afterwards.

Clippard was sent down to AAA and Keven Thompson is coming up for tomorrow's game.

Cairo got 2 hits, 2 RBI's, and played fabulous defense once again. I'm still high on keeping him in the game right now.

You guys can "rag" Farns all you want, but your missing the most alarming aspect of today's game. We are being exposed as a team that can be run on "at will".

AROY

When your pitchers are walking the best leadoff hitter stolen base guy in MLB what is Posada supposed to do?

Farnsworth/Cabrera to S.F.Giants for Randy Winn/Jonathan Sanchez.

we canot be run on at will unless we are playing the Mets. The have the most speed in baseball. who has speed like them the red sox, toronto, detroit???No the Mets and Angels but mainly the Mets. Reyes is a great player and Gomez can fly..

can our pen have a 1 2 3 inning????

trader Joe.. No to that trade, I like Melky he is 22 and can field much better then Winn and has a much better arm..But I like getting rid of Farnsworthless but it will not happen..... we are stuck with that moron...

Winn plays all 3 OF positions and is a fine defensive OF w/a good arm, switchhits ,is an excellent gap hitter ,can steal a base and has some HR pop.He just turned 33.Sanchez is a 24 yr old lefty reliever.Giants need a closer.Yanks need experience that Cabrera can't provide.

Sure...SF would jump all over that trade. Why not give up your best OF and a promising young pitcher for a worthless pitcher with no stomach for the late innings and a decent level OF prospect. Somehow I don't think Brian Sabean is that dumb.

Igawa is being called up to be the fifth starter...I'm going to officially change his name to "Ughawa" because he makes me say "ugh" every time he pitches and I think we have 3 years left of him.

Giants want to get younger .Promising young pitcher for a promising young hitter. Why wouldn't Sabean take the deal or a similar one ? Roberts is back from the DL Bonds plays the majority of games in LF and they're breaking in a promising rookie in RF Schierholtz and right behind him is the other OF prospect their high on Eddy Martinez-Esteve,Klesko plays both corner OF positions and 1b .Giants know they can't win w/the squad they have .The SF Chronicle writes about it everyday. The only thing keeping the Giants afloat is their starting pitching.
Giants desperately need relievers if they wish to compete. It also allows them to unload contract.I'm sure the Yanks would oblige them by eating the majority of Farnsworth' contract. My sense is he can't handle the demand of pitching in NY a small market team might be better suited for him.
Sabean' job is on the line he made moves in the off season that have people scratching their heads,
The Zito signing
The over the hill gang of players he signed to fill out the roster.
He has to prepare for a couple of FA signings in 2008 to replace Bonds and the aged veterans.Be prepared for a fire sale by the trade deadline.Dumb?

hammer farnsworth all you want but mo wasn't exactly lights out today.

Tie Clip was sent down - Kei Igawa to start against San Fran.

Clippard showed a lot of promise but the kid has to work on throwing strikes - the biggest problem good minor league pitchers have when they come to the majors is that pitches that minor league hitters chase are taken for balls in the show.

mo didn't look the greatest, but a win is a win.

if joe doesnt stick to routine, perhaps he could consider using farnsworth to 6th/7th inning.

besides pett, wang is worthy canidate to win the latest subway series for yanks.

If you haven't seen it yet, here the link to a good story by Kat about the Posada family:

Anon,

The difference between the two is that it is news when Mo doesn't pitch well.

Mo's pitching wasn't perfect, but when you look at the quality of the hits against him, they were all infield flukes that found holes and a bouncer off Mo's leg. It looked like Little League revisited. Of course, a hit is a hit and a run is a run no matter how lamely achieved, but if you're going to judge a pitcher's performance, you have to take all these factors into consideration since not all hits and not all runs are created equal.

Yankees may miss out on Girardi:

According to ESPN's Buster Olney the Orioles are considering Joe Girardi as an inseason replacment for current skipper Sam Perlazzo

Hey Guys,

Happy Fathers Day!

Chuck, I hope Girardi is not showing any interest. The Orioles disposed of Lee Mazzilli upon their first slump, since they were apparently itching for a reason to replace him with Perlozzo (just as many predicted would happen). I just wouldn't trust an organization that makes decisions based on sentimentality rather than brainpower.

I'm sorry, I mean Chip. Don't know where Chuck came from.

Happy Father's Day is right. Hope all you Great Dads have a great day.

RUSE-
I'm not blaiming Posada for the stolen bases, I never even mentioned him. What bothers me is if we should meet the Angels in the playoffs, Figgins, Willits, and Cabrera will run us silly. When questioned about all the stolen bases, Torre gave an answer along the lines of just keeping the speedsters off the bases. This tells me Torre feels there is nothing he can do with the pitchers, whether it be slide step, vary delivery time to the plate, etc,. The Angels have gotta be "licking thier chops".
On the Sweeney front: He knock in 2 more runs yesterday. That's 5 RBI in the last 2 games.

Torre is correct with Wang and Clemens approaching 6'5" . There is not much to speeding up their delivery. You don't mind a baserunner with speed getting on with a hit but walks. Clippard has to pitch to the catcher., he could be a keeper if control improves.I usually discount much of McCarvers pontificating on Saturdays but he's right. Young impressional pitchers must look past the batter and focus on the pitch selected to the catchers target. Walks=runs=losses. Throwing over to first just delays the process

Your only alternative isn't necessarily to "speed up the delivery". You can vary the time in the stretch, to throw the runners timing off. Throwing over to 1st does wear a runner down a little if he has to dive back to the bag. You can "pitch out" to at least keep the other team guessing. There are numerous things that can be done other than the obvious "keep them off the bases". I love the seldom attempted "hidden ball trick".
